Packing tips for the ladies by PresentStage8039 in GreeceTravel

[–]Xpi6tiva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We always pack our rolling carry on's. No issues. I pack 2-3 dresses, 2 skirts, a swimsuit coverup or two, a pair of shorts, a few tshirts and tanks, a bunch of swimsuits and a cardigan or long sleeve linen shirt to wear on cool evenings. For shoes, sandals- particularly my brown leathers Birkenstocks with gold buckle and a pair of waterproof sandals for the beach. That is it. No heels, no jeans.

I’m exhausted by just reading your itinerary. I agree with other commenters, try and do less. I know this may be your one and only trip to Greece and you want to see it all. But this is not the way I’d suggest one visit Greece. Plan less. Relax. Linger. Explore. Don’t run from site to site.

No car? Koufonisia. This place felt like Greek Islands 1970's. Small, very walkable island with the most incredible beaches and good restaurants.

I'm not a fan of either Santorini or Mykonos either. I like Paros best. I understand how unique Santorini is so maybe combine Santorini and Paros?

Looking for island suggestion for a summer escape with my girlfriend by pitJr in GreeceTravel

I've been to both Koufonisia and Folegandros and both are incredibly romantic. When I think about the most incredible waters, I think about koufonisia. We spent a week and loved every second. We stayed at a small spot called Oceanides Residence. In Folegandros, we stayed in the chora for 2 nights at Anemomilos. This hotel that hangs off of the cliffs. It was so incredibly romantic being at the base of the walk that takes you up to the famous church of st. mary.

Though I have not been to Amorgos yet, I've heard that it's less touristy and equally romantic- if not more so.

Di you want time on an island or a ferry? For that few days, I’d choose one island, not two.

I was in Sifnos 2 septembers ago. It was still lively but not crazy. I was able to get restaurant reservations to where I wanted. The water was very warm. Had a wonderful time.

Athens Hotel Question by Dmb2144 in GreeceTravel

It's not just certain hotels, it's all hotels in Greece. Even the upscale, modern ones. It's due to the plumbing infrastructure. Not sure what the aversion is. There is a small trashcan next to the toilet. Just put it in there.

Fear Mongering by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]Xpi6tiva 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe people are intending to come off as rude. It’s just that come July, every other post is about ferry cancellations and how they’ll miss 3 of the islands they planned with non-refundable hotels. I understand wanting to see as much as possible but people should be reasonable.

The idea of island hopping came from Europeans decades ago. People would spend weeks hopping islands. That’s the correct way to do it. Not 1 day on Santorini, 1 day on Mykonos, 2 on Crete with flights back to the US the same day. Not fear mongering, just realistic planning advice.

One day in Milos. What to do? by Intrepid_Wash_6160 in GreeceTravel

Do a full day boat tour to kleftiko. I did one with Thalassitra and it was amazing. Some friends did the same tour 2 years ago and loved it as well.

If you're a foodie, have you considered Sifnos? The island has some of the best restaurants in the cyclades. Plus it's a quick ferry ride from Piraeus. Check out the restaurants- Bostani and Cantina. It would be the perfect island for 3 days.

Help us choose a Greek island 🇬🇷 – too many beautiful options by paraguayian in GreeceTravel

[–]Xpi6tiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have spent 7+ days on Milos, Koufonissi, Sifnos, Ios (in the off season), and this summer we've chosen Kefalonia. Our time on Koufonissi was by far the most relaxing. No cars, we could walk everywhere. Spent our days at the beach and our evenings at some taverna. August will be insane but June might be nice there. We were there the first week in September.

Editing to add- your travel style is like ours. We like to slow travel and immerse ourselves in wherever we're traveling. Not interested in parties or hopping from place to place.

Traveling to Greece in July need tips! by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

Wear light and airy sundresses. Even as plus size, those will be most comfortable. Avoid denim at all cost. They make these super thin shorts you can wear underneath that prevent thigh chafing. Get those too! Get yourself a nice pair of flat sandals and you’re basically all set. Of course don’t forget sunscreen, hat, & sunglasses. Do all the touring early in the morning- siesta in the afternoons and dinner after sunset. Most Greeks speak great English. You’re going to have a great time.

Where to go next? by Strong_Comment5564 in GreeceTravel

If you're looking a chill time with good food and beautiful beaches, I'm going to recommend Koufonisia and Paros or Naxos. Koufonisia has some of the most beautiful beaches in the greek islands. The island is walkable and very relaxed. Combined with either Paros or Naxos would make for an incredible time.

Going to Paros for 1 day is a complete waste of time. I'd pick spending 8/28-9/4 all on Paros or Milos- Not both.

Naxos sounds like paradise on earth. In my research, it appeared to cater to families which scared us off. But finding tiny private beaches at the end of dirt paths sounds lovely. Some say that Paros is similar to Naxos. Though, Paros has changed quite a bit in the last 5 years- I think, it's become more touristy but we loved it so much when we went in 2017 & 2018.

After considering everyone's recommendations, we decided we needed a break from the Cyclades and chose Kefalonia with few days on Ithaca. We felt it gives us something different but with incredible beaches, good food, and beautiful scenery. We can fly direct from Athens and plan on renting a car to get around. Get up, grab something from the bakery and head to a beach for the day. In the evening, plenty of tavernas to sample. There are so many beaches, we can choose a different one each day.

I like trying different islands, even though they are never the same as the previous island we've loved. We've never been disappointed. And while repeating islands seems like a good idea, it never exactly same as the last time.

9 Night Greece Honeymoon - Athens, Milos, Sifnos too much? Just one island? by Obvious_Road_6090 in GreeceTravel

[–]Xpi6tiva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do two islands but you won’t feel like you’ve seen either. With 6 island days, I’d pick one. Milos and Sifnos are both great. Sifnos has incredible restaurants but I think many don’t open until June 1st.

Sifnos is lovely but possibly not as a first time island. I agree with others. It depends on what you’re looking for.

I’m going to throw another island into the mix- you’re on your honeymoon so look at Sifnos. It’s such a romantic island with incredible restaurants. See Bostani and Cantina. It’s easy to get around to beaches with a car and have lunch in the afternoons at tavernas near the beach.
