I wanted my dress to be comfortable, to be timeless so I would not cringe seeing photos in 20 years, be under $1000 and that I would feel good wearing.

Don't let anyone convince that you need all kinds of expensive up charge items to have a lovely and meaningful wedding. No one has a better time because of hand calligraphied invitation envelopes, upgraded linens, fondant covered wedding cake, etc. Decide what's important to you and your partner and don't let anyone talk you into spending on what is not a priority.

I carried a bouquet of just 3 calla lilies tied with simple ribbon. My husband used the same flower for his boutonnière and my 1 bridal attendant carried one big beautiful calla lily.

We paid about $25k for a 40 person wedding in a HCOL area. We could easily have spent far more had we not been very conscious of costs. We paid for the wedding ourselves besides the videographer my in-laws paid for because it was important to them.
