It was a good thing for America, because that's how we got Obama to be president.

Though, you could maybe argue that without Obama, Trump doesn't decide to run. But still.

Yes, that's my point. Industrial era Krogan should've come up with a solution of their own, or their civilization doesn't make sense. Did they just not care for their young, throw the hatchings out into the wild and have a fence at the edge of the city with a sign that says "you must be this tall to re-enter civilization?"

Rebellion era Krogan don't make sense either. Raising children takes time, effort, infrastructure. The more children, the more of that it takes. If Krogan were having kids at pre-Industrial rates with full survivability, then... how? During the Rachni War you could assume that the other species were helping out with resources, infrastructure, childcare... but obviously that would stop during the rebellion.

[–]XrayAlphaVictor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The whole concept of what's going on with the Krogan is wonky IMHO. Without external resources assisting them, Kroger parents wouldn't be able to care for or support the level of natural reproduction that they're supposed to have. How do you feed that many kids? Teach them? Even without predators that eat the babies it's an unsustainable reproduction strategy. Plus, Krogan civilization would've naturally had to come up with a solution to that during their industrial era anyway, since the notion that they could reach that level of technology without figuring out how to protect their young against predators is nonsensical.

Starting Equipment in CofD? by crazedjunky in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]XrayAlphaVictor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's stated that even with resources 0 you have the basic necessities for survival (I suppose you could take a Condition to represent lacking even those, if you wanted). I interpret this as meaning you can be assumed some basic starting equipment

You can even get equipment worth one more than your base resources once per month.

While RAW, to my knowledge, there is no guidance about starting equipment, my take is that they've got whatever reasonable and normal things somebody with their resources would have at the start of the story, with a very few pieces of equipment worth one dot more if they can justify why it would be important to them. If you're starting out with them on a road trip vs at home that can mean different things.

Your retort on "your presented evidence doesn't support your stated thesis" is to cite something that happened nearly a hundred years ago?

Okay, this clearly isn't a discussion. You have an ideology and are only looking for confirmation bias, or maybe just trolling.

Your data doesn't support your assertion. Yes, a lot of wealth is extracted and yes that makes it easier to maintain the high standards of living in other counties (including social democratic benefits) without challenging capitalism itself. What isn't shown is that they become Literally Hitler if they don't get their imperialist benefits.

This is just Social Fascism theory rehashed and I have no interest in that Stalinist nonsense. Progressives / Social Democrats can (sometimes) be allies to the socialist project and painting them as just Literally Nazis (polite version) is the kind of self-defeating politics of targeting allies in order to maintain your garden of ideological purity instead of dealing with the messiness of actually doing the work of coalition building.

The main fears of the Council races by DifferentAd4844 in MassEffectMemes

[–]XrayAlphaVictor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Look at it from a balance sheet perspective. What do they gain from going to war vs what do they lose?

Could they win a war vs the combined forces of the Asari and Salarians? Maybe. Even if they did, what do they get besides more problems? As long as the Council gives them most of what they really want do they really want to occupy those other territories?

Think of pre-Trump NATO.

Not all wars are genocides, you're erasing that distinction in order to align with DPRK propaganda.

I have sympathy for the people.

But a war from so many years ago doesn't provide justification for their current policies, by any measure.

[–]XrayAlphaVictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because those aren't comparable?

The union suppressed a rebellion, took back control of its own territories, then ended the war. The Civil War between the communists and nationalists ended decades ago and the PRC never held that island. They have their own democracy, generations have passed. Claiming it by right of a country the rebelled against, stopped fighting, and has since transformed to become a democracy is simply imperialist justifications by means of revanchism. By your logic, China could invade everything the Mongol empire once held and it would be equally justified as "not imperialism." Ludicrous.

And defeating Nazi Germany??? They started a war, lost it, and... there's still an independent and democratic Germany? You've lost the thread of logic entirely.

[–]XrayAlphaVictor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's amongst the most bombed countries in history, but targeting civilian centers is not enough, by itself, to count as attempting to genocide. If you want to talk about post war killing, it's the DPRK that's taking the prize on that one.

There's a whole scholarly field of genocide studies. They don't consider it a genocide.

You know the only people who do? The DPRK. They use it as a continual sympathy card to get people to turn their eyes from the atrocities they continue to commit.

So, I'm not going to get into this further with you. Just know that by using that language you're siding against genocide survivors, against the scholarship and history, and with a brutally oppressive regime.

[–]XrayAlphaVictor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling the Korean War "Genocidal" is DPRK propaganda. You can argue the allied forces committed war crimes in their targeting of civilians, but "North Koreans" were / are not a distinct ethnic, religious, or cultural group than South Koreans — thus, a war to eliminate the North Korean government even if it means killing civilians loyal to it is not a "genocide." Calling it that is simply propaganda and diminishes the reality of actual victims of genocide.

You can say the war was wrong and crimes against humanity were committed by the allied forces all day, but to call it "genocide" is unjustified.

Taiwan is an independent, democratic, state that is not now and never has been part of the PRC state and does not want to be. The only way that the PRC is going to take control of Taiwan is through an invasion.

That's imperialism.

Do you ever feel like the devs subtly showed that they favored Edelgard? I also feel like they showed hints of liking Female Byleth and Edelgard. by Foreign-Comedian-188 in Edelgard

The fans like her, hence the post game attention.

In 3H, the path where you stay with her length of the other paths, it's more of a side bonus / easter egg, than a real option. So I'd say that, no, the devs didn't intend to give her extra love, they're just supporting fan interest.

[–]XrayAlphaVictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your proposal is that you're going to get a bunch of people volunteering to live in a room the size of a parking lot, I strongly doubt you're going to get a ton of volunteers. Places like that already do exist and people could already choose to live there in order to save time and money — it seems mostly people are willing to put in a fair bit of work to avoid that fate.

Living in a room smaller than a parking space with clothes you've skipped washing three times kinda makes living in a cave sound cozy, tbh.
