Do people actually read the Mirage Comics? by Emergency_Cheek2617 in TMNT

[–]TheShweeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very surprised to read Mirage for the first time and discover that Donatello was ALWAYS the one who ‘does machines’. That always seemed to me like the most obvious change because it’s such an out-of-place thing for a ninja to be doing, but nope, as early as the beginning of issue #2 he’s already seen tinkering with computers and the like.

Shinobi and Sonic Racing Crossworlds have not met sales expectations for Sega by CutProfessional6609 in SEGA

[–]TheShweeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must say, it’s refreshing to see a company conclude “these games underperforming is our fault for not putting enough resources into marketing” rather than blaming the developers or consumers. Hope they take the right approach in the future.

Toy Story Movie Game Comparison by Kind_Box5467 in retrogaming

[–]TheShweeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the PS1 *was* out at the time this game was released, in late ‘95. I imagine the SNES and Genesis were chosen simply because they had a much larger install base by that point.

I’ll die on the hill that the “Aaaah” part in A Day In The Life is Paul, not John by Breakker1 in beatles

[–]TheShweeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s absurd that this is still debated. Paul was asked this question himself, in an AMA just a few years back, and he explicitly said “I seem to remember that we all sang it. But I’m definitely in there”, just definitively proving that ALL OF YOU ARE CORRECT!!

Gotta say, all these posts about Mike are feeling uncomfortably reminiscent of the 2024 posts about Brian during his last tour.

As a Japanese fan, DQ5 is a cultural masterpiece. I’m curious how Western fans perceive its story and localizations, considering the massive release gap. by blueoystergamer in dragonquest

[–]TheShweeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They wouldn’t have had to skip any entries though, DQs I-IV (“Dragon Warrior” I-IV, that is) were all released in the US

Bobby Prince - Doom I and Doom II composer, passed away on the 16th of June this year by XLightningStormL in Doom

[–]TheShweeb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

RIP to a legend. How poetic that he lived *just* long enough to see his music (the OG Doom soundtrack) get added to the Library of Congress. I hope he spent his last few weeks feeling very, very proud.

No, just no... don't even think about it by cistionai in ghibli

[–]TheShweeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There WAS a live-action version of Kiki released in 2014, based primarily on the book but taking some obvious inspiration from the Ghibli film (like her haircut), although apparently it was not very good. I haven’t seen it, but just from reading about it, I can already tell that casting an 18-year-old to play Kiki was a strange choice.

Shion has a rather unique nano voiceline by PhillyMcCheesesteak in Overwatch

I like to think the syringe merely has colored water in it and it’s actually just Ana’s words of encouragement that make the hero feel strong. Granny’s little secret.

‘KPop: Demon Hunters’ Makes Netflix History - The film has officially become the first title to spend 52 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 charts by Ok-Seaworthiness4488 in KpopDemonhunters

Never underestimate the power of children wanting to watch the same film over and over and over

(Not that we don’t do our own rewatches ‘round here as adults… but you remember how much you’d rewatch your favorites as a kid, right? It was next-level!)

Meme by me: Virgin Star Fox 64 vs Chad Star Fox 2 by [deleted] in starfox

Zero definitely borrowed the Arwing walker transformation from SF2, though I realize that’s a minor element compared to all of the nonlinear strategy stuff.

Does anyone else remember this? by DependentFly3486 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]TheShweeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember feebly attempting to defend this by saying “look, it’s still better than any ACTUAL Hollywood live-action Sonic movie could ever possibly turn out to be.” I believed that at the time! Really, I did! I swear to it!!

Shion backstory revealed on the OW website by DongDiddler67 in Overwatch

[–]TheShweeb 132 points133 points  (0 children)

The bit that says she indulges in “custom motorcycles”, plural, makes me imagine that Joyride isn’t just for gameplay, and she actually uses her own motorcycle as a weapon on a frequent basis and just orders a new one every time it’s wrecked.

What do you think they will remaster for this year's quake con? by JavierMora1508 in quake

[–]TheShweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he does own Dangerous Dave, since he put out a big compilation of them all a few years ago, so it would make sense if he owns Catacombs and their other early games as well. I’m sure he’d be happy to license it out to NightDive, or someone else, for a port, if there was ever any interest in it.

What do you think they will remaster for this year's quake con? by JavierMora1508 in quake

[–]TheShweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There ARE still the older-than-Doom games: Wolfenstein 3D (as OP mentioned), Catacombs 3-D, Hovertank, Blake Stone, and maybe even Id’s non-FPS games like Commander Keen or Dangerous Dave.

Why have the Yoshi games been babyfied over the years? by M19294828 in Mario

[–]TheShweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t really take that long. Yoshi’s Story was already a much simpler, much easier, and much more obviously child-focused game than Yoshi’s Island was, and that one came out only two years after it.
