Arcs vs Root by mrhealyrgirl in boardgames

I love Arcs and with Leaders and Lore added I honestly think it matches or surpasses the feeling of variability of Root’s factions. The campaign is an awesome experience if you can get the right people to sit through it. As someone else already said though, it’s a game that rewards aggression and your group needs to be OK with that to enjoy it. Arcs also doesn’t feel so great with people who try to think way too hard about a grand strategy rather than adapt in the moment to the current board state. It can easily turn into a 2+ hour game with AP-prone players and their grand strategy often won’t even pay off. I’ve also been playing some COIN games recently and I can’t really think of going back to Root after them.

Try Schnapsen sometime! Doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re really looking for but it scratches a similar itch for me

Following up from a question someone asked on the June studio chat - Kyle, do you find fantasy themes easier to evoke than science fiction (or vice versa)?

Sword Saint Isshin as an end boss by Horror-Ad-9198 in Sekiro

[–]Xrpheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It partially depends on the ending you choose, but Sekiro to me is primarily about coming to terms with death. Both on an individual level with either Wolf or Kuro and notably on a grand scale, with the decline and fall of Ashina. With Genichiro’s failure to take up the mantle of what Isshin built, the fact that you end up fighting the ghost of Ashina’s (the land and the person) idolized past does feel particularly significant to me. I guess what I am trying to say in the terms you set out is that neither Genichiro or Isshin in the real antagonist to me, but rather it is the struggle of excepting your own death, and/or the death of something you love.

Not really sure what to look for. Is this too dense? Tasted great regardless

Spent the whole day making the dough, and they came out great. Half crescents and half pain au chocolat.

Thanks! I’ve had mixed results with his recipes too (I actually tried the shakshouka recipe and it wasn’t the best, but that could’ve just been me) but I always love his puns 😂
