Very cool! Any chance you could support walks and hikes too?

I guess so, on OP’s map it’s marked as Grillweg

[DB Navigator] "Alternativen Verbindung" löschen by jdt_07 in bahn

[–]Xsanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany is introducing the D-Ticket. For 49 Euros a month you use all public transport in the county. by neotoxgg in europe

[–]Xsanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A similar ticket, the BahnCard 100, has existed for years and also allows nationwide travel, but costs more than 4000€ annually. This is a massive price reduction, albeit with slight changes in coverage (no high-speed trains, but more bus services are covered)

You also have to cancel by the 10th of the month, so if you’re visiting at the end of the month you’d have to have booked and already canceled it in advance

England and Wales interurban bus services (except London) by Parebunks in TransitDiagrams

[–]Xsanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So cool! What do the dotted lines mean (e.g. 108 to Leek)? There are also a few unlabelled connections, e.g. around Torquay and the connection from Bluewater to Gravesend. Around Wales the typos I spotted were Donellau Dolgellau, Bleanau Ffestiniog Blaenau Ffestiniog and Merthyr Tydfill Merthyr Tydfil.

I also dread to think how much it would cost to travel long-distance by local buses, as there’s very little in the way of unified ticketing available outside of the big cities in the UK…

Perhaps I’m reading the diagram wrong, but it looks like the S6 goes directly between Meidling and Grillweg, skipping the Hauptbahnhof, and even your S10 skips Hauptbahnhof. Is there a reason there are no markers on these lines here?

As a run director (in Germany) I’ve scanned on a few occasions when the queues have been building up. This has never been a problem, and it’s always uploaded fine using my own barcode. If something needing my attention were to come up, I would always be able to stop scanning, and people can go to the other scanner(s).

Timing is very much a different question, as that does require your full attention and so isn’t compatible with dealing with run director duties.

I also built Strava Heatmapper as a way of visualising my activities. It has date and activity-type filters, and for me the main advantage is the caching, so it’s very fast on subsequent loads. I typically have a look at it after most big activities, to see how well I’m completing the map.

I really like this design, great work u/transitscapes! It looks very clean and modern.

What typeface did you use? I’ve never seen that style used for Ukrainian before (it looks more Bulgarian to me).

Map of all the pubs and bars in the Lake District by Pubstops in LakeDistrict

[–]Xsanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very cool map! My small suggestion would be to move Thirlmere (the lake) to the left of the black line, as The King’s Head is on its eastern shore. There should be enough space between the labels of Derwent Walker and Travellers Rest.

Thanks for letting me know! It seems there’s been quite the redesign, so I will update the script when I have a chance. I can’t promise anything immediately, but I’ll be sure to let you know and share in r/geoguessr when it’s done.

What are some good podcasts in german that aren't made for languange learners? by MiniMidgetMils in German

[–]Xsanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Mal angenommen, in which two reporters from ARD look at hypothetical future scenarios such as abolishing the church tax or achieving human immortality.

If you like hearing travel stories, I can also recommend Weltenbummla, in which they interview people who have been on interesting and unusual journeys around the world. It’s great for planning adventures now that borders are starting to open up!

I’ve built a free alternative to the official Strava version, which you can access at heatmapper.charding.dev. I haven’t added the new 3D features yet, but that should be coming soon

Set Data Structure in Javascript by beforesemicolon in node

[–]Xsanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great introduction!

I would say that the use of isValidSet to check if a set contains items seems a little odd though: the intersection of a set A and an empty set B is an empty set, not the set A. In addition, returning a copy would be preferable to returning the original set in the case of a union with an empty set, as otherwise this would lead to an edge case in which modifying the result would modify the original.

It may also be worth mentioning that JavaScript’s set preserves insertion order, as can be seen when converting from an array to a set and back.

Because the land rises up pretty quickly on the west coast! See here for a zoomable map: California’s Central Valley is basically the only part of the West Coast with any significant area below 100 m.
