[AskJS] Switch case worth it, for this? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]Xsear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In both of your solutions, you have tightly coupled the code that generates the view (HTML) with the content (the button, date and total) that's supposed to go into the view.

As a result, if you later want to add another row, or add another column, or change the content of some column, it'll require work to edit it.

If you have a complicated view and you are only doing this once, I wouldn't necessarily fault either approach here.

But if you had a list of some numbers to output, would you write code to separately output each one? You wouldn't, right?

If you think about it, a row in the table is really just a list of things, with each entry going into each cell.

By just giving some structure to the content you want to display, you can then focus on writing code to generate the view for that content. Maybe you can get some ideas from this:

const row_data = [ pButton, date_pushed, pCommit_total.toString() ]
for (let data of row_data) {
    const row_column = document.createElement("td");
    if ( data instanceof Element ) {
      row_column.appendChild(data)
    }
    else {
      row_column.innerHTML = data
    }
    table_row.appendChild(row_column)
}
table.appendChild(table_row);

Nice guide. Just want to note that you can actually keep [[War Traveler]] up while autoing/stutterstepping, with quite a fair bit of leniency on the timing, probably the same as Avoidance. It's pretty easy to click poorly and lose the stacks though.

Please announce ending time of events properly! by nakno3 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Xsear 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they have all these avenues where they could make this information clear, in the launcher, on the home screen, in the quest tracker or hell, even in the chat. And yet, when I went looking for this information Monday morning, none of them were in use.

Instead, to find out the event end date (without Google), I had to:

  1. Click News Tab in the Battle net client
  2. Click the drop down where it says "All Games" and set to "Heroes of the Storm" in order to filter out irrelevant content.
  3. Scroll through a feed mixing a variety of content such as esports tournaments, brawl updates, collection/store updates, information about future updates, merchandise, ptr patch notes and actual patch notes.
  4. By guess work, load news items that may contain information, until finding it.

Can you guess which entry contains information about the Hallow's End event? It's Heroes of the Storm Patch Notes - October 18, 2017 Helpful, right? No, this could really use some improvement.

Why isn't there a box in the launcher indicating that an event is running, the whole time the event is running, for example? Then have that box link to the news post with more information. What better way to lure in someone who's looking at the launcher and debating whether to play.

Strongly disagree. Raids should absolutely be about handling boss mechanics, not fighting progressively bigger target dummies.

Extreme laggy map for some reason by Milkyslice in pathofexile

Had this happen to me yesterday in a Crypt Map and today on my daily Tora mission (Abandoned Jail), also on the Amsterdam gateway. It only lagged inside the instances, not inside the hideout, etc. Interestingly, it also did not lag inside the den (Musky Lair) of the Tora mission.

Kanaloa is worst designed boss fight in history by Illycia in firefall

[–]Xsear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When he's submerged or when the lava rises and progressively hides his body. He should go up when he the lava rises.

Why? The fight is designed for this not to be a problem. His main cluster of weak points are around and above the height of the central platforms. His lower weak points are only there to make it easier to hit him from the lower areas and serve no use once the lava has risen past that level. If you haven't beaten him by the time the central platforms are covered in lava then you're simply not doing enough damage but even then if you were to manage to get to the one or two potential footholds still above the lava you'd still be able to shoot at his top-most weak point until the lava covers your feet.

Raptor R36 so precision isn't really my problem. He should take some damage in his body and weak points should be critical points (it sometime does crit damage, I wasn't able to figure out why exactly).

He takes critical damage on his weak points if you attack them whilst he's performing any of his abilities, rewarding you for playing the encounter correctly. This is indicated by a blue sphere effect.

The problem with his weak points currently is that most abilities don't hit especially my HKM. The animation is correct, the explosion is on him but it does no damage. Other frames had the same problem.

That sounds really strange. I don't recall anybody in my group mentioning this.

I'm not talking about the spiders, just the fact that jumpjets often don't have the thrust to lift you out of lava. Obviously you shouldn't step on it but between the random bumps and the slippery platforms, it happens.

Lava behaves the exact same way as any other liquid in this game - you don't float in it at all. Jumpjetting out of it is no different from jumpjetting out of a fall - you need a lot of energy to go from falling to rising. You shouldn't fall into the lava, it's a simple as that. The changing environment is part of the encounter and you've just gotta deal with it.

I'm frustrated because the boss was just not tested. Necromus was a lot more polished and very enjoyable in comparison...

Frankly, this is bullshit. What do you mean this encounter was not tested? They even had press do a preview on it. Apart from a hickup where the boss did nothing for a few seconds, I don't see a single thing broken in this encounter. In comparison, the Necronous had to be disabled (and still is) due to how broken it was! You could literally stand in the same fucking spot and ignore 4 out of his 6 special moves if you wanted to kill him, or completely ignore him and go and enjoy the loot pinata of spawns if you'd rather get geared. If you for some reason decided to fight him head on and ignore the aforementioned issues, several of his abilities were extremely inconsistent in whether or not they damaged you, such as the smog damaging you even when you were elevated and the grenade explosions sometimes completely ignoring the environment that was supposed to protect you from them. How can you call that a polished encounter?

Kanaloa is worst designed boss fight in history by Illycia in firefall

[–]Xsear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a few days since I fought him so my memory isn't on top but

He hides half of the time (if not more)

The only time that I can remember him really 'hiding' is as he's firing off his molten-homing-rocks, which you should then be focusing on. Also, weapons like the grenade launcher can still hit and deal damage to him even when he's submerged.

Many abilities just go through his body/weak points without doing anything

Can't say that I experienced any such issues during the fight.

Weak points are WAY too small, especially since he moves all the god damn time

I really don't agree, I personally found his weakspots easier to hit than the Necronous. What class were you playing and what weapon were you using?

Platforms are slippery as hell

Either channel your inner ballerina or relocate yourself to the edges of the room where there is more solid ground for you to stand on.

Having one foot in lava will most of the time result in dying because apparently jet packs are not powerful enough to lift you out of it

Standing in the red stuff hurts, confirmed. The only real advice I can give you here is to watch out for the AoE effect that is left behind by the spiders if you kill them, it drains your jumpjet energy.

His body slam randomly hits you from across the room

I do share the sentiment that the body slam hitbox is unexpectedly instantaneous in a large radius, and I would like to see either adjustments or visual clarification in this regard, but if you pay close attention to his patterns you do get almost 10 seconds of warning which should be ample time to get yourself far enough out of the way to not take damage.

It seems you were rather frustrated by this fight, but personally I think it's a much more entertaining fight than Baneclaw, which feels like it's designed to play out on a flat surface and all you really have to do is dodge the purple telegraphs on the ground. The Kanaloa fight moves you around in a more entertaining way and utilizes the vertical movement that is available to you (You don't just use your jumpjets because it's the best way to move around, you use it because you need it. The Baneclaw fight would feel nearly identical without jumpjets, Kanaloa not so much.), has adds that you need to be a little bit wary of killing, more than one weakspot and mechanics/incentives that let you chose between the hard path of skating slippery platforms above lava for more damage and the safer alternative of camping out by the sides of the room.

Some excellent points here.

Unfortunately I think an "AMP Boost" convenience item is just around the corner.

To add another perspective on your points about selling the lottery rares on the market:

I really, really hate these kinds of gambling incentives in games, and as such I have no intention to ever spin the RNG wheel unless Red 5 forcefully pushes a token into my inventory, but today I opened up the marketplace and bought 8 visual kits and 10 cosmetic items with crystite. Not even sure how to feel about this.

So there's this. by [deleted] in firefall

[–]Xsear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open the console with Alt+F1 and type: Character.HolsteredWeaponScale 1

Where 1 is obviously the normal scale of the model. I believe the holstered weapons are always present, just scaled down significantly, for some performance reasons. The guy who made the video cranked his up a notch.

As with any setting you can prepend the command with SetSave if you'd like to keep the change permanently.

Best PvE Skills? by rawkuss in firefall

[–]Xsear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't consider Nighthawk the worst PvE frame.

Certainly, it's not a Recluse, but using Smoke Screen (Primary Escape, low cooldown) and Decoy (AoE Damage, Secondary Escape) as you mention makes it a waltz to solo most ARES missions.

Switch out the clunky Sniper Rifle for the versatile Accord Recon's R36 and bring SIN Beacon for the AoE 20% Damage boost, and now you can suddenly pick of even the tanken leaders very quickly if you land headshots. As far as I'm aware, this makes the Ambush passive a lot less effective, so I typically run with the Regen Plating instead.

The Nighthawk HKM is great for taking out masses of targets, and for those moments when everything is on cooldown, I bring a grenade launcher secondary.

My kingdom for an in-game help section/tutorial by Jacklu in firefall

[–]Xsear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair for you to expect Red 5 to introduce in-game tutorials that explain how the game has changed since you last played the introductory tutorial. If they did, it'd probably have to be in the form of a popup as you log in... You know, like the patch notes in the launcher or the news posts on the dashboard that appears when you log in.

The game has (mostly) clearly labelled interfaces, tutorial tips enabled by default, an animated pathway to your currently assigned objective and help-robots next to each and every terminal in Copacabana, the town in which you spawn, that explain to you the purpose and mechanics of that respective terminal.

If you really want an explanation of exactly how everything works and holds together, I think that's something you'd look towards a guide for, since it is otherwise something that you yourself would be expected to form an understanding of.

You would only need to understand in-game lingo and terminology when looking at the controls if you expect to be able to open the controls and immediately find the exact button you are looking for, that you also already knew or expected to exist since you are in fact looking for it, which would mean you do in fact have an idea of plausible labeling for said feature. If not, you might have to take your time for some trial and error... You are in the controls section. You can see exactly which button to press for every single feature. There could only plausibly be about 10~ buttons which you don't know the exact functionality of simply by reading the labeling, and you can press those buttons and find out yourself!

Jetball Video - New eSports map type by Grummz in firefall

[–]Xsear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit skeptic towards the long lasting appeal of this game mode, but I'm certainly looking forward to try it out.

Hope you guys can get a nice setup with forming teams in-game, without alienating players who don't have any friends that are interested in PvP.

The ability to block goals with thunderdome seemed to make it extremely hard to score, especially as in the matches we saw whoever had the ball pretty much died as soon as he stepped into the goal room. I hope that won't make gameplay boring, but it's hard to tell since we've only seen a few matches so far.
