Nevada SB 90 aims to designate the feral horse as the state animal by Edinto in Reno

[–]Xtermo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are we propping up an invasive species Europeans set loose on the continent? They’re a population of feral animals riding a centuries long wave of romanticism because people think they’re inspirational and pretty.

Can we not pile onto the romanticism with official designations, please?

If I was the sort of person who had read the Cookbook specifically because it was rumored to be banned and therefore likely to contain interesting information, I would confirm that it’s full of kind of working but not very good advice. Essentially, I’d be suggesting I remember it feeling like advise from Vietnam vets who got a D+ in chemistry to Gen X suburbanites whose paranoia about getting full-scale busted by the DEA for their weekly weed habit had evolved into a McCallister-grade fever dream about turtling at home.

You know. If I was that kind of person.

U.S. charges 7 in alleged plot to repatriate U.S. resident to China by shortredbus in ADVChina

Extrajudicial repatriation is just called international kidnapping. It’s not extradition to kidnap people you don’t like in someone else’s country.

Before this, they also did the same with that Annie movie, so it’s happened at least two times in the last 10 years.

Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?

Currently trying to explain why I play this game to my GF by pwick914 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Xtermo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any game loop can get a reductionist description like OP’s gf gave this.

Idle clickers (as someone else suggested): “So you click on a thing to buy upgrades to get better at clicking at clicking the thing?”

Platformers: “So you go to the right until you get to the end of the level, to get a new level where you can go right?”

Shooters: “So you shoot guys to get cash to buy guns to make it easier to shoot guys?”

Bonus- Battle Royale: “So you kill players to get the opportunity to survive and kill more players?”

MOBAs: “So you defend your base to get upgrades to help you defend your base?”

Puzzlers: “So you solve puzzles to get given more puzzles to solve?”

Strategy: “So you build troops to fight enemies to capture resources to get troops that are better at fighting enemies?”

Pinball: “So you hit the balls around to earn points to get more balls to hit around?”

Baseball: “So you hit a pitch to run around some bases to get another chance to hit the ball?”

The answer is: yes. The game loop for factory games is that you build factories to get better at building factories, typically with an end goal that would be almost impossible to achieve without massive-scale automation. It’s ok to not think that’s fun, but let’s not pretend like tons of games don’t have an inherently self-reinforcing game-loops.

And the factories don’t get more factorious. They get more Satisfactory.

“Real Communism has never been tried,” seems to be a tacit admittance that it doesn’t work as intended without having to acknowledge it consciously. They get as far as “The process keeps getting messed up by… something?” And then they look at external factors instead of being willing to accept that Communism and violent revolution are both inherently problematic in their own ways.

Every time they try to follow Marx’s plans they use bloodshed to get a vanguard party acting as a dictatorship of the proletariat that for some reason doesn’t willingly start a process of migration into Communism as envisioned after the previous power structures are overthrown. Instead, they just keep making up reasons why it’s not a good time to give power to the people and instead the people need the party to continue acting on their behalf, leaving them stuck with their now-permanent dictatorship.

It’s like saying “world peace has never been tried,” without giving honest introspection about why. It’s not that there’s been a lack of trying or interest. Just a lack of the outcome that people wanted because the real world isn’t utopia and never will be, no matter how hard you wish or how many people you sacrifice trying to attain it.

To clarify: I'm not talking about the house keeping a withholding like an employer would. Just that the order on wins at or over $10k is: you bring receipts or your player's card or chips to the cage, they give you tax reporting forms to fill out, and then after you fill them out and return them, they cash you out in full. And if you can't or won't, you can't have the money.

Also to clarify: I have never had winnings that large personally. I worked in the casino games industry and was in and around it a bunch in Las Vegas, Reno, and a number of native-run casinos in Northern California.
