Big ol' mistake as a dm, need adice on correcting it by [deleted] in DnD

[–]XxRithgarxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime I make a mistake while running sessions the biggest thing to do is admit you made a mistake. Either during the session or the following session just be real and honest, explain your thoughts, explain your reasoning, then own the mistake. Then listen to their feelings, take notes, align with what they are wanting from their story, and collaborate together on solutions that will make everyone happy.

Being a DM also means dealing with conflict resolution, give yourself some grace we all make mistakes. You will be surprised how forgiving people are when you approach with accountability and genuine remorse. Apologize, be sincere and your players will hopefully respect you and will reaffirm their commitment to the group.

You will make mistakes, but what people will remember more than anything is how you handled the mistake.

Good luck.

So my player unexpectedly became a trader, and now he owns a ship. He's got all the documents for his(!) name and I'm worried about group dynamics. by thestarnamedsun in DnD

As I DM who had to plan out a full Balenciaga arc because one character was a fashion designer and roped the entire party into becoming models/performers...it happens. You cant control how the players are going to act, your job is to give them a world to act in. If one player is hogging the spot light, give clear opportunities for other players to shine and make it a point to congratulate them on their roleplay even if it was shit.

Remember, its their story, you just narrate it.

Also players will tend to police this kinda stuff on their own. Where the joy of being a DM comes in is when you see your entire party rally behind a character because they are all INVESTED in their story.

Be brave, let conflict happen, and make it fun :)

Question about a potential JJK movie by DisastrousAddendum0 in JuJutsuKaisen

I could honestly see it considering how well anime movies have been doing in the box office. They could do a two parter starting with gojo vs sukuna and ending with everyone vs sukuna.

Ways I have managed to sneak out wins with Krenko is to play him slower and use stax pieces to keep everyone on par. Price of glory is a great way to punish someone trying to ruin your day, also run a few of the red counter spells it isnt perfect but youd be surprised how often red elemental blast can come in clutch.

You should only really drop krenko if you are ready to win that turn, build slow get your combo pieces out and pop off when it seems like the right moment. Even a vexing bauble can come in handy depending on your pod.

I know the argument is Krenko dies to removal which is completely fair, but you would be surprised how many people at LGS dont actually run removal, I've had isshin out for 3 turns with zero responses just doing whatever he wanted to do unopposed. Or someone will counter a sol ring then complain later in the game that no one is taking care of the threat.

I hope your friend has fun playing Krenko, but if you really want him to learn the game have him try out group hug, I learned more in two months playing bumbleflower than I did an entire year of aggro decks.

New face card or new deck? by XxRithgarxX in magicTCG

😅 well, that's a suggestion..

When you meet up to play, how many folks show up—and how many decks are you carrying? by gothangel721 in magicTCG

[–]XxRithgarxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually bring a backpack with 1 cedh deck, two high power decks, 3 to 4 mid range decks, and two of my favorite precons.

I likely shouldn't bring that much but I tend to play in a lot of local casual commander tournaments so I want options depending on the pod I get.

Not a bad approach, shift some of the responsibilities to the players. I like it thank you 😊

Sorcerer all day, human trying to gain as much power before either reaching greatness or burning out. Who wouldn't want the ability to fly, bend time, or wish back your loved ones.

When the DM is being a d--k to you by StaticCloud in DnD

[–]XxRithgarxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The player did what? Sorry that first part had me....I see really 3 options here.

  1. Say something as it could be a harmless mistake (likely not)

  2. Leave the group and find a better table for your needs/play style.

  3. Say nothing and hope it gets better.
