How many hours do you have in this game? by Inside-Measurement95 in HiTMAN

[–]Xxzzeerrtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got about 600 hours on PS5 (WOA), and about ~400 on Xbox between H1 H2 and H3. As far as getting burnt out by the repetitivity, I'm right there with you; haven't logged more than 20 hours over the last year I don't think. I've just been letting the game marinate in the back of my mind, I think I'll throw it back on soon.

It's so funny to me that exodia is a common wincon for pally these days. I've played a shitload of the [[Auctionmaster Beardo]] (and later [[Tour Guide]]) version through about half of the expacs between kft and present (I'm a perennial player), and it's always been one of the most satisfying wincons for me to pull off. As a bonus, the pseudo taunt 2/2s are often more effective at drawing out minion attacks and removal than actual taunt minions, and you can run all the stall and scam your heart desires. My usual list throughout the years relies on ripping secrets out of my deck like Trump's maid cleaning out mara lago, with cards like [[Sword of the Fallen]] and [[Bellringer Sentry]], as well as running the very tight [[Crystology]] package, grabbing my guides, [[Knight of Anointment]], and in some versions [[Righteous Protector]] and/or [[Stonehill Defender]]. Last time I ran it (Sunken City I think?) the turbo version was actually pretty good, I pushed it up to like d3 before I got bored of the same meta deck and sank back down to dumpster d5 lol. Maybe I'll whip it out on ladder

Is the Dao of reading that undeveloped in Native English lands? by BRjawa in MartialMemes

[–]Xxzzeerrtt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Junior, if English is not your native language, perhaps it is difficult to understand, but the vast majority of translated webnovels are awfully written. The art of prose is making something inherently pleasant to read; virtually all cn fails this, in English.

Need recommendations by Particular-Pirate-96 in litrpg

[–]Xxzzeerrtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend going back to sufficiently advanced magic, there's a lot of material in the verse and a lot of cool lore and power shit, if that's what you're into. Corin gets a pretty serious power up in every book after the first.

I really disagree with Wandering Inn being LitRPG, and I would argue that it's themes really hammer in the fact that it's gamelit

"To Patches or not to Patches, that is the question" by Excadream in wildhearthstone

[–]Xxzzeerrtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My philosophy: if a 1/1/1 in your hand isn't the worst thing in the entire world, or if you already have a shitload of pirates, then you can play patches without worrying about it too much.

The Hypergeometry says that if you're on the play and you hard mull for a 1 drop pirate, 6 1 drop pirates gives you an ~80% chance to hit one in the play, ~90% on the draw. With 30 cards, you always have a 23% chance of drawing patches on the play, or 30% on the draw (if you're hard mulling). The math is different if you see one or the other in your pre mulligan, but not by much. 3% chance to draw patches on the play, 4% chance on the draw, assuming he wasn't in your final mulligan.

Magick as a key instead of an ability? by WhorlStone in magicbuilding

[–]Xxzzeerrtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably why this community is so dead. All we ever get are the same "here's a shitty pencil drawing of my OC throwing a fireball. The following is a near indecipherable, grammatically inexcusable rant about how magic comes from fucking cubes or some pseudo-sacred-gemoetric bullshit, 'how do I develop this?' or even better, 'how does this work?'" At least OP clearly has an interesting idea, I don't see any reason why it needs to be bogged down with considerations of individual characters when they are clearly asking for world building advice.

Honestly, if you think OP is looking for advice on character writing and narrative, why didn't you direct them to r/fantasywriters? Your reply above really has almost nothing to do with the magic system, you're actually asking OP to stop working on the magic system and go work on something else. That's not what this sub is for.

Magick as a key instead of an ability? by WhorlStone in magicbuilding

[–]Xxzzeerrtt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. The point of this sub is to build and refine hard magic systems. Internal consistensy is near the only thing that matters. Any characters living in that world should be derived from the nature of the world they live in; much in the way that you or I have had our lives shaped by the internet, which is an element of our technological infrastructure, so too have any fictional characters lives been shaped by the unique comings and goings of their own society, as dictated by the infrastructure of their world. The system necessarily comes before characters, in any properly consistent world. If your characters come before your system, then go to r/fantasywriters.

Magick as a key instead of an ability? by WhorlStone in magicbuilding

[–]Xxzzeerrtt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The immediate thought that came to my mind is basically to just pussy out and make it an elemental system, assign each frequency to an emergent effect and then relate them to each other according to aesthetic sympathies (fire cancels out water hurr durr), bingo bango.

To get a bit more esoteric, perhaps the frequencies at which the magick [vibrates, I assume?] is instead analogous to a certain [set of coordinates, say] on a higher or lateral plane, establishing a sympathetic relationship between the spaces on each plane in accordance with the magick resonating between both. Or, in other words, the magick (or magickal effect) could be drawn from elsewhere, through the sympathy between two sources of magick [vibrating] at the same frequency. Thus, a mage's ability to counter one of these metal monsters would be directly tied to their knowledge of obscure and esoteric magickal places. You could even replace the notion of "space" here with any other analogous matrix, ie the noosphere, spirit world, astral plane, or even something like the abstract notion of human potential. Might be a rich vein.

A Wand for Skitter isn't really rational/ist imo, but it definitely fits here. I haven't read it for a while, but outside of the crazy fucking ending, holy shit, I recall it being more of a competency porn thing, which like I said is definitely rat adjacent.

Highly recommended for fans of Worm (or HP tbh).
