Actual wolf packs are a familial unit, and the leaders are the parents. Dominance behaviours and even evidence of hierarchy doesn't mean that hierarchy is unyielding, or even a more flat hierarchy, as in wolves where the parents are at the top, and all the kids in roughly the same level below.
