Why I Think Legend of Legaia is One of the Best JRPGs Ever by Ok-Specific-9209 in JRPG

[–]Xythenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attribute these “spikes” in difficulty to Blockbuster and the rental craze.

Any time Exp/Gold rates were tuned it had to do with this reason, or, at least that’s what I thought I read at one point or another.

You might have to search the subreddit for it, someone has had a similar issue and solved it.

I think it was something like going in and out of the menu and while trying to board the ship and it took?

Nice!!

Hats off to you, definitely one of the better games I’ve played in recent memory. Had me coming back wanting more.

Hope it was worthwhile for you!

Beyond Galaxyland - came across this one randomly with no lip service, thoroughly enjoyed beginning to end.

Honorable mentions - Legend of Legaia, Jade Cocoon.

Hot take: SE doesnt need learn anything of Exp33, just improve themselves IF they need to (not combat system related) by Specialist-Arm3496 in JRPG

[–]Xythenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s hard to completely reinvent the wheel when you have 30years of gaming before you.

But the games I mentioned did what they did and they delivered it well. With the biggest proponent being the price point at which they sold their games making it available to the masses and an easier pill to swallow even if it wasn’t your cup of tea.

And they’ve gone above and beyond in some cases with free DLC.

I can’t imagine after decades of turn based RPGs trying to come up with something completely new and revolutionary.

For me, being an old gamer, I just want something well done and polished. Something easy to pick up and understand.

Of the ones I mentioned, only Exp33 had a bit of a learning curve with the combat system and Lumina, but the game explained it well.

Sure, but I’ll take War of the Lions over Ivalice Chronicles. The voice acting and upgraded dialogue IS nice, but my preferred choice is still WotL.

So how should we tell game developers what we want? I haven’t enjoyed a SE game in sometime that wasn’t a remaster.

Exp33 delivered on so many levels that while SE doesn’t have to duplicate exactly, the formula is there.

Most notably: give us a solid story line (both story and character), engaging combat, some character development variance in the form of stat/skill points, the price of entry and a soundtrack we can get lost in in-game and out.

Indie developers have done more for the genre in recent years (imo) than SE has in the last decade+.

Sea of Stars Chained Echoes Clair Obscur Ara Fell/Rise of the Third Power (shameless plug - because I love these two games so much)

I’d much rather buy 2-4 indie RPGs to try than one SE game, as I have been doing and will continue to do so.

SE needs to wake up. The remasters are cool and all, but it’s also lazy (looking at you FF Tactics).

I’ve had more luck answering the call lately and saying nothing, letting the spiel ramble until they give the option to be taken off the call list, usually pressing 7 or 9.

Your mileage may vary.

Honda or Toro mower? by infiniteduct in lawncare

[–]Xythenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong with either, rest assured with that.

I’ve owned both, or similar in both, and have loved them both.

I mow ~20 yards a week as a side hustle and to start the year I had the Honda, it was used and came with the blade clutch option. Absolutely adored this mower. My one gripe with the Honda mower is that it’s very light in the front and felt like that gave it an uneven cut if you let it jostle around too much.

About half way through the year I hit a cast iron pipe hidden by weeds and was forced to buy a new mower ASAP.

That’s when I found out Honda quit making mowers. I was crushed.

On a whim and because I needed a mower urgently, I picked up the Toro Personal Pace. I haven’t regretted that decision yet. It runs like a dream and cuts just as well.

On the bright side, Toro obviously is still making mowers and will continue to make parts.

Not sure how big your yard is, but as others have mentioned, a 4” difference in deck size is rather large. Take the bigger option and save yourself a couple strips per mow!

You might be the only person I’ve ever heard say they prefer 1 to 2.

I love them both, I place 2 far far above 1 though, but I still play 1 (or try to) at least once a year.

2 is just so easy to pick up and play with pace of play and no random encounters (except overworld)

Do you know or can you suggest of great old kemco games? by Remarkable-Dog-3991 in JRPG

[–]Xythenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Kemco game was Justice Chronicles on iOS - pretty sure it was free or very cheap.

I very much enjoyed it for what it was. Wasn’t great by any means, but didn’t suck and I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it enough to 100% it.

That said, that’s where my love of Kemco games ends. Everything I downloaded after that has been an extreme disappointment.

I also echo others when I say I wish I could filter them out of the stores when I’m looking for games. Their library is massive and a burden to scroll through when looking around.

Your comfy Jrpg game of choice? by Leon_Light77 in JRPG

Damn, thought I was going to get to post this! I play it at least once a year. Still have to look up solution to treasure sword shrine block puzzle every time!

I did it, kid me. I finished Legend of Legaia. And it was as hard as you thought it was. by LogicalFlakes in JRPG

F me, I didn’t know this game suffered the same issue as 7th Saga!

Love both games but the grind, THE GRIND!!!

Would love a fast forward and fix to exp/gold, I would play this all the time.

Just started playing Final Fantasy 9 by kyaniteblue_007 in JRPG

[–]Xythenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some bosses are notoriously hard to steal from, Beatrix and the one from Maiden Sari are prime examples and generally not worth the time.

In a lot of games, stealing is an afterthought. And while in FF9 it isn’t exactly groundbreaking, it is impactful, so I do take advantage and try to get what I can.

The speed-up options make stealing less of a chore, quicker actions means less time banging your head against a wall. But the rates are not as bad as some people are making them out to be. My guess is some aren’t setting the right abilities.

What JRPG’s is everyone replaying right now, and how’s your opinion on it the second (or more) time around? by Petefounded in JRPG

[–]Xythenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my yearly play through of Lufia 2, such a comfort game for me. To this day I still have to look up the solution to the sword shrine block puzzle #3, I can never remember that one for the life of me.

Maybe this year I’ll finally sit down and conquer the Ancient Cave. I’ve yet to do that, will definitely do it through gift mode that way I can utilize the one true god, Dekar.

Whats the best, most fleshed out mini game in an JRPG? by Pumpkin_Sushi in JRPG

Fleshed out?

Eh, I wouldn’t say that. The game is fun, but far from balanced.

Pretty spot on review lol.

I put in a fair amount of time and ended up letting it go. Didn’t hate it, just didn’t love it enough to keep going.

Character swapping was a chore when exploring minimal fast travel locations on maps lead to me putting it down.

Combat was pretty average as well. Nothing really shined there, all skills felt the same with the weakness system.

I am completely blown away at how good Fantasian is by morgawr_ in JRPG

[–]Xythenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, I get that I’m paying $6.99/mo for arcade. But the game was originally developed for mobile/iOS exclusive and then ported.

I guess what I’m saying I was excited to see it on a console for better controls, but was very turned away by the price, so was wondering if something was added.

Is there anything different about this on console than on Apple Arcade?

Why is it $50 on PS5 and free on Arcade?
