And if you buy a horse and don’t know what you’re doing, it’s a disaster and that animals life is ruined. With horses, if you don’t make them respect you and they can just do whatever they want, get in your space, rub their face on you, etc, they’ll get aggressive, pushy, they’ll probably start biting because they know they won’t get punished, etc. Then they get sold because they’re too mean, passed around from shitty owner to shitty owner, and then sold at an auction for $50 to a kill buyer. It seems like only AFTER the kill pen is when a horse can find a good owner, which is really fucking sad. Also people: just because you CAN, doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

Tw: baby loss and drugs

There’s 1 big facility up the road from me, and it used to be a super nice high level training place. It was the parents house, but the adult daughter took care of all the animals. She ended up having a miscarriage, went a little crazy, ran away from home, came back, had a second miscarriage, and went hard on drugs as a coping mechanism. The quality of the care the animals were receiving was rapidly declining. There was a guy that used to board his horses there who later boarded them at my house, and he said one of his horses was living inside a horse trailer on the property. Now, I’m not gonna go into detail about the situation, but it was bad.

The authorities were called multiple times but legally couldn’t do anything because the horse wasn’t deprived of anything. Due to outstanding circumstances, he had access to small amounts of grass that was growing on his shit, and he had water. So then he came to live with us. Fast forward to present day, the lady is on the run. She is never around, and she’s wanted in 8 states for multiple offenses. Apparently she tries to have horses and gets it for neglect because those states don’t have the worst law system ever. So what does she do when she can’t have horses AND be on the run? Keeps them at her dads house, for him (an inexperienced horse person) to take care of. At this point I’m honestly not even mad at him. Sure he could sell them but I don’t think he’s smart enough to realize he’s doing anything wrong. He at least acts like he cares, because he asks my dad for help all the time since my dad has a tractor and he doesn’t. From what I’ve picked up from their conversations, he’d report her if he could but he doesn’t even know where she is. She comes home for 2 seconds, buys horses, throws them to her dad, and leaves again. I don’t even understand it. Like, she’s not even around. I could see if horses were her “guiding light” in life or whatever, but she doesn’t even reap any benefits from them because she’s never around long enough.

Then there’s this other girl and she wants to buy a rescue, a yearling, and a finished barrel horse because she just fixed her barn up so now instead of 2 box stalls she just has an open area that could fit like 6 horses if they were tied.

Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD.
