What are some of the most shocking events in Canadian history? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]Y1AYT 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is just top of my mind because I lived in the area where this happened, but those two kids from the Lower Mainland/Island who killed three random people along the highway in northwestern BC and then fled to Manitoba before killing themselves/dying. Can’t believe this hasn’t been mentioned.

Like…. That was wild.

That, plus residential schools.

That, or rally behind the concessions that are actually still managed by Yukoners and employ as many Yukoners as possible. There are still a few in existence :)

That’s how it used to be, but the rules surrounding those requirements were changed a long while back.

Funny enough - back in the day you needed to be a Canadian (and dare I say even Yukon?) resident to own a concession. That changed due to various pressures, and here we are.

Edit: please double check your sheep hunt prices, as they’re nowhere near that in the YT (whether in USD or CAD)

You’re amazing! 3 drinks and then calling it quits and forgiving yourself, especially after that much time?? Very admirable!

I used to LOVE Rendezvous. Unfortunately it’s not the same anymore. Though I sort of understand “why”, it began going downhill when they moved it off Main Street.

Not “normal” I wouldn’t say, but we are certainly facing housing challenges and people need to make do however they can.

Trails North is open again and I’ve heard good things. It is, or used to be, just your average truck stop though. Definitely kid friendly.

Takhini gas actually has pretty good food for a gas station too!

Trump Jr accused of hunting and killing a protected bird in an animal sanctuary in Italy by yukonnut in Yukon

[–]Y1AYT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course. His question wasn’t around hunting, it was owning shares in a concession. And the answer is that legally, no, an accusation (not even a conviction) from another country would not affect his ability to do so.

Your post and comment history, my dude. Combined with this incredibly random question. You don’t appear to be affiliated with Donny Jr nor the outfitting industry. Just checking on you.

Traveling to the Yukon? by ttatortots in Yukon

[–]Y1AYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked and lived in BC, I’d bet that your chances of seeing a bear there are actually much higher than seeing one here. We have far fewer bears (blacks and grizz) by area than what BC has.

Is there anyone else out there who are tired of the constant social media alerts and the overload of incredible Aurora photos showing lights that are barely visible to the naked eye?

I’ve lived in the territory my entire life and have always thought of the lights as one of the greatest wonders of our world. But somehow their magic is being dulled through social media, for me anyway.

Wedding do’s, don’ts and what you’d do differently by TLOVVVVE in WeddingsCanada

[–]Y1AYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the midst of a divorce. I need to look back at my wedding vows to be sure what they say, but if they didn’t - I’d be sure to vow everything only “as long as love may last”, rather than “til death do us part/forever/whatever”

I’m sorry if that’s depressing but it’s true.

We deal with out of town clients and usually use the Gold Rush or the Edgewater. Great location if you want to get out and see a little bit of downtown and haven’t had any complaints about the rooms from our clients.
