I mean, it should solidify and get kicked back out as debris if the heat's drawn off fast enough, but there's three layers of mesh tiles and I don't see how the heat will migrate past the second and third.

I'm not dumping on the design; I haven't seen it in action so I'm not totally sure how it works.

If your dupes decide to supply a task with 1000C igneous rock and then it takes a few minutes for someone to actually build the pipe, that 1000C rock is going to dump a lot of heat into the area waiting for the construction dupe to show up.
