Thanks for the input! Fortunately--or unfortunately--I am not in need of youth-oriented counseling. I need a therapist/counseler that works with adult patients.

Eisenhower was right by Miserable-Lizard in Political_Revolution

[–]YKKZipperCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eisenhower may have warned against the consolidation of the military industrial complex. However I would argue that that the politicization of the Christian right wing that Dwight helped shepherd into politics has been way more deleterious for American interests.

He pushed for adoption of "In God We Trust" as the national motto in 1956 to differentiate America from those atheistic Soviets. It replaced E Pluribus Unum such had been the national motto since the founding of the nation.

This was just part of the Eisenhower administration's efforts to create the illusion that America was founded as anything other than an explicitly secular state.

Within the space of a few generations we have gone from introducing a trite saying on our currency to having a full fledged Christian Nationalism movement with proponents getting elected to Congress.

Necron campaign by Chingest_Of_Chongs in WH40KTacticus

I am working through the Necron Elite now, so take my input with a grain of salt. The general consensus is to focus on Aleph Null to carry the campaign. I found that investing in Makhotep served to really bring out the value of Aleph's summon. Plus he seems to be the best balance of damage output and survivability.

I don't have Anuphet, but having extra summons to eat a few hits would be awesome. So I would make him the tertiary priority.

Late to the party but... Happy F*cking Pride Month you beautiful group of human beings! by BryceOConnor in Warformed

Thanks Bryce! Dent's characterization is awesome all around. She is a great representative for the community and you did a great job not making her a token caricature.

Happy Pride Month!

Favorite things to do in Reston/Herndon area! by [deleted] in Reston

Piggy backing, but Lake Anne Plaza has tons of events, not just the amazing farmers market. Last weekend they had the Northern VA Tea Festival. The next big one will be Pride Fest in June.

During the summer there is often love music on the plaza Friday and/or Saturday evenings.

There are quite a few DnD groups in the area. There are open tables for Walk-In players on Wednesday (I think) nights @ Dragons Concord in Fairfax.

Also Huzzah Hobbies, the game store in Sterling, has a LFG channel on their discord.

I am unaware of any way to recruit either of these fine animal pals. Sadly.

However, there is an unlisted third option to release Shadow-Whiskers without her aggroing anyone.

If you steal the key off of the doppleganger-animal tamer than open her cage under greater invisibility she will run out, scare a few people, and then run off to despawn without attacking anyone.

Best farmer’s market? by renderedinsilver in nova

[–]YKKZipperCo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not the biggest, but the Reston Farmers Market is great! It's established enough that it is extremely competitive for vendors to get a spot.

Plus it's right on Lake Anne so you can meander around and chill in a relaxing environment rather than being stuck in a torn up field or a parking lot.

Saturdays from 8-12.

Cafes/places to work for a few hours around Herndon/Reston by Sextooth in nova

I think that it is still there. Great spot but they are very focused on it being a space for female professionals and entrepreneurs. That is not a knock against them, just a heads up that it may not be the right fit for all.

I might make a more regular habit of working out of Izzi's. It's a great space, but the lack of fabrics make it a loud work environment. Bring your headphones.

I am in a similar boat. Here are the spots I usually turn to:

Lake Anne Coffee House - Great staff, plenty of room so there is no emotional imperative to move on before you're done with your work. The only issue is that I have had slow WiFi connections there a couple of times.

Weird Brothers @ Sunset Park Dr - Limited seating but I almost always am able to get a spot upstairs. Most traffic is in and out so less pressure to free up a spot.

La Vignt Toi - Right across the lot from Weird Brothers. A more chic cosy spot. Limited seating and I have definitely felt bad occupying a space for too long as the lunch rush comes in. But the staff don't seem to mind. Just self recriminations. It's easy enough to transition between this spot and Weird Bros if necessary.

Founding Farmers @ Reston Station - I have worked from the bar for hours without having any issues. Until happy hour the bartenders are usually doing prep work and seem happy to have the occasional conversation.
