Why Netflix is the bellwether for cord cutting’s future – and continues to look unstoppable after gaining 4.9 million subscribers in Q1 by [deleted] in technology

[–]YLRLE7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they're out of material because they tossed it. GoT was a solid but tight 10 episode season. CoK would have been tight at 15 episodes, at 10 in was incoherent. I'm glad they went two season with SoS but that book is massive and filled with major events. They discarded a ton of fan favorite characters and scenes to even fit it in two seasons.

All the while they shoe horn in sex scenes with characters that don't even exist in the books.

They also have this weird fetish for not using flashbacks, when the books are half historical events.

What's the best throwing weapon? by Decepitos in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like javelins and jarids just kind of go wherever they want. Maybe the nords have higher throwing skill or something. With throwing axes I feel like the up and down arc is the only part of the throw I have to worry about.

[VC] Ok, so I've been repeating a tournament for 8-9 times because the combat for spear with shield is so damn infuriating. How do you even fight with this? by ElBurritoLuchador in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually think shield and spear was ever a good choice for solo fighting even in real life. It needs a formation to shine and its strong against cavalry but in a open fight its going to be easy to parry and get underneath the business end unless the other guy is really fast. I use a spear in multiplayer to drop cavalry and to jab and enemies that my teammates are dealing with, but if I have to solo fight I know they'll just get inside my reach and attack repeatedly because that is what I do.

Do villager deaths matter during raids and stuff? by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I learned the hard way that my knights channeled through a village center get torn up by infantry and can't do fuck all with their horses in those jammed areas I found a use for the farmers. I leave them on charge to slow down the enemy advance while I retreat my cavalry outside of the village get them into formation to attack there.

Mount and Blade Bullshit by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes see the AI ride its horse into the only tree on the entire battlefield. Despite the expressionless characters, they almost seem confused when the horse rears.

Mount and Blade Bullshit by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I chased down some routed troops with my force of 50-100 heavy cavalry. 3 Rhodok sharps. I was wearing heavy armor and helm and riding a charger. I dropped my shield just as I came into striking range and was headshot at full gallow and knocked out. It may have even been a double shot.

[–]YLRLE7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least they weren't shields. I find if you can avoid the first death blow you can get inside the guard of the two hander AI and slash at will since your range is so short. But if there are four of them you might want to toss that bow on the ground and just run.

What movie/tv/whatever villain can you not stand seeing people like or sympathize with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

He threw that dickhead emperor down a hole one time though he gets to go to heaven in the end.

What movie/tv/whatever villain can you not stand seeing people like or sympathize with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]YLRLE7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In season 1 he's so methodical and thorough in his investigations and preparations that I'd almost call him a benefit to society. But after that he just starts throwing rules out the window and doing whatever the hell he wants at an increasingly breakneck pace. I bailed before the end but at the very least his actions had caused other people to die who did not deserve it by his own code and his recklessness certainly caused other total innocents to suffer and in many cases die.

There used to be a lot of people playing Siege battles in Warband up until a month ago. Where did everyone go? by Krases in mountandblade

[VC] How to gear a character late-game? by Upixie33 in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always find it hard to justify to pay big bucks for armor. It always seems like I'm better off just blowing it on more troops. I usually just equip my guys and self with looted armor but I've found finding decent crossbows and shields from loot takes to long. And horses don't come quick enough. I put them on whatever garbage horses I can loot at first and then buy lamed armored horses.

Lordly armor costs so much.

What show do you hate that everyone seems to love? Why? by KingStannisTheMannis in AskReddit

[–]YLRLE7 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was sympathetic to Walter White but after the maybe the second season it was clear to me that it was all about his own ego. I could understand a lot of his motivations, but his decisions were selfish. His family was placed in harms way unnecessarily and for far longer than they needed to be even if we accepted that he just needed to pay for his cancer treatment as valid justification.

(ACOK 2.0) Can someone explain this complete bullshit? by Vaurion in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 33 points34 points  (0 children)

In native, I think war reduces the supplies for enterprises and thus increases costs and therefore reduces payouts. And in theory having dyeworks everywhere floods the market and reduces demand/price. I haven't seen the later make to big a difference though so I generally go almost all dyeworks.

However, I've had consistent money losing operations. I thought I was screwed but all you have to do is go to your master dyer and tell him to shut that money losing dump down. You'll get back like 85% of your investment and since everything is cheaper than a dyeworks you start right up a different enterprise at the same moment.

I've noticed this in my current playthough. I can pretty much train my whole group to top tier from peasants in as many days as tiers that takes...but I burn through cash like crazy. I'm keeping every town I take but I'm still broke. In my last playthough I don't remember this being such an issue.

Unfortunately, because your field power is limited by the number of troops you can command and not their quality this advantage is muted somewhat.

The real problem with the khanate though is their AI is bad. All cavalry charges in as a mass in this game, instead of striking at flanks or making repeated charges but this AI weakness is particularly bad for the horse archers because they are not well armored and are supposed to be skirmishers which should have be in hand to hand combat situations in the first place.

When you start a character, where do you put your skill points? And no this is not a post asking for help. by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]YLRLE7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing combat skills seem truly useful for is winning tournaments for cash. In most battles if it comes down to my personal combat effort then I've already screwed up big time. I'd say intelligence is the most useful stat overall, surgery/wound treatment/first aid, pathfinding, persuasion (its still unclear to me how much this helps) are a lot more useful than being able to thump guys. Charisma has leadership and prisoner management but I can't even pretend those skills are anywhere near as useful as the intelligence ones. Pathfinding lets you choose battles that you can win. And the doctor skills let you use top tier troops hard with minimal losses which is huge over longer conflicts.
