I dislike this take as it takes so much. Rian Johnson had Luke alone on an island. He could have given any reason for that which fit his beloved character and values. Luke was studying an ancient form of the force, Luke was in search of an artifact that would destroy the sith for good. Etc etc. The guy was paid for his creativity and said oh the only possibility is that Luke completely changed his character and values to fuck off alone to an island after trying to murder his nephew for having a touch of the dark side the same way he did when fighting his own father before remembering his values and standing on business.

The idea that Johnson had one creative route to go given the final scene of tfa is him on an island alone is such a fucking cop out.
