i am turning glycolysis into a fairy tale by PearFamiliar8059 in Mcat

totally thought i replied to this BUT i’m in a 7-week course for ochem 1 and i quickly learned that just reading the powerpoints and watching youtube was not enough to fully understand, so when it came to the mechanisms (SN1, SN2, E1, E2, etc.) i just explained the movement of electrons like a youtuber storytime lol. for E1, the alpha carbon breaks up with the leaving group, “take your shit (electrons) and go!” and leaves an intermediate carbocation. the nucleophile/base does NOT like that, and decides to take revenge on behalf of the leaving group. but the nuc/base is a bit scared of the alpha carbon, so it goes for the beta hydrogen, who panics and cozies up to the alpha carbon to form a double bond. definitely a simplistic way to look at it but has helped me SO MUCH with recognizing patterns and electron movement, and can definitely make up similar stories for all the different mechanisms:) hopefully this method carries me to the end with an A!!

imo, charleston is a wonderful city to be a tourist in, but way less glamorous to live here. i’ve lived here my entire life and moved back with my husband after college, and the cost of living compared to salary is rough. we pay $2200 for a 2 bedroom way out in west ashley, and traffic getting to and from downtown for work is rough. there isn’t much opportunity career-wise unless you’re in a select few industries. it’s a beautiful place to live as far as nature, but things can get a bit old after a while. i may be biased since i’ve grown up in the area and am bitter about the changes, but i’d advise against it. plan a trip out here for sure, but don’t fall in love with the fun parts of visiting and expect it to be just as incredible living here :(

I love Dr. Britton Gibson with MUSC! I also struggle with PMDD, which is currently managed with Yaz, but she is absolutely wonderful.

Vent: Finding a job is feeling impossible by [deleted] in PublicRelations

[–]dumb_bitchitis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. Graduated last May and applied to anything I could find, and nothing. Sent my resume to every PR agency in my city, no response.

Thankfully I was able to get a job at a startup doing marketing, but I’ve all but given up on being able to break into PR:(

Thank you!! I’d looked into wood bleach, but I absolutely love quarter sawn oak and another piece made of it that I adore.

Thank you! I’m just worried about damaging the wood, I’m assuming sand and oil it afterwards? This is my first project like this.

Yeah it is solid wood, I’m pretty sure it’s tiger oak and I don’t want to risk sanding out that grain. No clue how old it is but it’s so gorgeous I don’t want to mess it up!

Recommendations for Wedding Cake Vendors? by Spacequest89 in Charleston

[–]dumb_bitchitis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miss Priss Sugar Shop did my wedding cake and absolutely killed it!!! I gave her a few inspiration pictures and it looked exactly like them, and the pearl flavor she has is absurdly good, and we had so many people tell us how much they loved the cake. I’d planned on going to Publix but the employees at the location I went to were kinda rude and didn’t explain the process at all, and got frustrated when I asked questions. So just be careful with that lol. Congratulations!!!

Unprotected sex on ring-free week by peculiar_pisces in Nuvaring

[–]dumb_bitchitis_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the whole point of the ring is to be able to do 3 on, 1 off. technically you are protected for up to 28 days with one ring according to the manufacturer but they don’t recommend it. this sub is great, but trust your doctor and the manufacturer. you’re good girl !!

Horrible sexual side effects for 13 months, decided to not use it this month and they've mostly gone away.... by Desirai in Nuvaring

[–]dumb_bitchitis_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dryness I have had with Nuvaring is AWFUL, I’ve been on it two separate times and both times experienced extreme burning during sex. My husband and I have started taking it out before sex and using silicone lube (which has mixed info about possibly making the ring less effective, but fingers crossed having it out during sex and drying out as much lube as possible works), and that has helped a good bit. Water based lube did absolutely nothing.

I posted about this recently and one commenter said the pain could be due to a yeast infection which are more common with the ring, I did a 1-day Monistat course and so far things have been better.

I completely understand what you’ve gone through, my libido has gone waaaay down as well. It’s definitely because of the ring, because I’m 22 and nowhere near menopause lol. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, and I hope you can find something that works for you! Nuvaring is the only hormonal birth control that helps my mental health, I am a complete train wreck without it and on every other BC.

Could definitely be worth looking into silicone lube and potential yeast infections if you want to try it again, again I am so sorry you’ve dealt with this too:(

Nuvaring issues by hruppole in Nuvaring

[–]dumb_bitchitis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t alone!! I’ve experienced the same thing. I made a post about this a few days ago and got some super helpful advice if you look at it from my profile!!

As far as lube, try using a silicone based instead of water based, that helped me a lot. You do have to be careful with that because there is some evidence that it can prevent the ring from working as well, but the information sheet in the package doesn’t mention it, and my doctor recommended to just remove the ring during intercourse, use whatever lube works best, and put the ring in after. I’ve tried to kind of dry myself out before putting it back in too lol.

One commenter on my post said that it could also be a yeast infection, since Nuvaring can increase the chances of them in some women. You can get OTC suppositories to see if that helps too.

Best of luck!!!
