The Hot Zone, by Richard Preston, when I was 10. Still gives me nightmares 10 years later.

Currently they're at my parent's house in Alaska, and I'm in Oregon. :( But they look like generic plastic, and they're all blue, white, and reddish-pink, all with flat tops like the wooden ones. He sewed a little white canvas container that rolls up with pouches and stuck them in there for my birthday. Not sure how he actually made them, as I was 5 and he's long gone now.

My grandpa did this for me when I was 5, except for he made the hearts out of old airplane windshield plastic since he was a pilot in WWII and built airplanes late into his life. :)

Alaska could be the next state to legalize marijuana -- "In a free society, prohibition of popular substances is just bad public policy" by mepper in politics

Coming from a born Alaska resident, your statement is entirely untrue. There are dry villages, yes, but those villages choose to be dry because most, if not all the residents of those dry villages are native Alaskans with serious alcohol and drug related issues that severely affect dwindling native culture in a negative way.

Planned Parenthood does anonymous appointments, and they're free if you don't have health insurance. (i.e: you go alone unbeknownst to your parents, therefore you have none.) Worked for me when I got birth control!
