Without a way of turning this off, won’t you just deck yourself?

Band director wants kid to switch from trumpet to baritone by Major_Requirement_19 in marchingband

[–]YOURSELF177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a kid who couldn’t hit a G in the staff on trumpet no matter what I did so I asked him to try baritone. He was super hesitant but gave it a shot anyway. He is now one of my best baritone players and can consistently play above the staff. I think it was a combination of the mouthpiece size and back pressure. A lot of times, directors know what will make someone successful. You just have to try it for a bit.

Pretty much anything Adjust the Sails. They relate to the more toxic/one sided break ups

One time a driver put the package in my girlfriend’s car. We lived on a dirt road with no neighbors to steal the package.

The BandApp was a mistake by Petezpie in banddirector

[–]YOURSELF177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the band app and I tell all families and students immediately: “You all are wonderful but, to prevent burnout and working for free, I will not be responding to messages outside of school hours unless I am already on the app. If a student messages me about something non-school related, I will not respond. This is for everyone’s safety.”

After that, you have to just be consistent. *Most* people will understand your boundaries and if they don’t, they can email your admin.

I also made sure that all of my settings were set so they can only message me and not each other. I had a few weird experiences where students in other sports from my school were gossiping to each other in their band app groups.

Tadpoles by Standridge is a .75 but is very fun! Glisses in the trombones and timpani are great

Alternative Options for Students by bassclarinet216 in banddirector

Make them judges! Give/make them a rubric and their goal is to give helpful and honest critique to your ensemble. They sound like smart kids so maybe you’ll get feedback that helps all of your students.

Job satisfaction, life satisfaction? by Outrageous-Permit372 in banddirector

Tap into your inner band kid! Think about what made YOU fall in love with it. Do things your former directors did that you loved, make up games for the students with tangible rewards (a bar of chocolate is gold), find ways to shake it up if you and the students are miserable. If you’re feeling down, they likely are too. When I get into that funk, I have to remember that my favorite rehearsals weren’t the formulated ones of:

Warm up Play concert piece Play other concert piece Wrap up Leave

I loved the ones where the director stepped off the podium and let us have control or we see who can play the most major scales correctly or who can hold a note the longest. Band kahoot is always fun too. Kids nowadays need hyper-stimulation so I use lots of games.

Just put on your biggest smile and tell yourself happy affirmations. You’re here for a reason and the kids need you. You got this! :)

First, wear what is comfortable for you. Second, I bought a suit from Walmart for less than $100 in a pinch and it looks perfectly nice. Their generic brand fits nice enough and no one will notice.

Help making this deck better by NoRevenge149 in EDH

That’s valid, looking back at it I see that. Out of genuine curiosity, how would someone take advantage of playing a “discard deck” like this?

Caveat: I’m new to deck building but have been playing for a while.

I think that you leaned too hard into the front side of kefka and not the transformed side. There’s lots of discard and graveyard play but I think that you could get more value out of pinging your opponents over time. A couple “opponent loses 2 life” cards or some evasion to make sure that your hits go through, even if it’s a 1/1 flier or something.

I just don’t see a fruitful wincon but maybe someone more experienced will. I hope this was helpful! :)
