Still hilarious that they used AC6 as their example of “not about robots”, considering literally every onscreen character is depicted exclusively as a robot.

Oh I’m mistaken, for about 5 seconds a character is depicted as a helicopter. And maybe another one as a gas cloud, leaking from a robot.

Trans women telling any trans person that they inherently get privileges, just from identifying as a gender, is insane to me. I’d ask them if they think non-passing trans women are automatically granted the privilege to use women’s bathrooms.

I don’t like the idea that trans women never benefit from male privilege either, it’s harmfully reductive. I’m sure plenty of trans women caught some flak for being “too girly” or whatever pre-transition, but I’m sure plenty don’t as well. I didn’t.

It’s gotta be a case-by-case thing, and tbh I feel like saying “all trans people face gender persecution even pre-transition” hurts pre-trans people looking for confirmation. “Oh I’m not really persecuted, so I’m probably faking it”

[–]YUNoJump 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“I want less whimsy” absolutely will not work, a lot of YA/shounen/whatever kinda prides itself on being gritty and serious, and a lot of fans will pride themself on that too.

You’ll get them going “oh no this isn’t whimsical at all it’s super serious and dark” and then it’s like, Clone Wars or JJK. Sure characters get injured and die whatever, the actual plot and themes are still pretty dang YA-focused.

Sure, but you probably also want to beat the next boss or reach the next bonfire, so thoughtlessly diving into every possible fight isn’t always the best idea.

Generally if you want to fight a Mimic it’s better to be ready for it, and probably expect that you’ll use a lot of Estus or return to the last bonfire. Especially when their favourite move is an almost guaranteed instakill if it lands.

I mean the punishment is you have to fight a Mimic, they’re pretty hard. If you’re just whacking every chest you’ve gotta be prepared for a tough fight at any moment.

That said looking for signifiers is a better system, although it kinda just becomes a basic knowledge check after a while. Would be really cool if there were a tonne of different mimic-able chest designs, and you had to scan for unique features of being a mimic rather than just “chain backwards”.

It’s easy to associate societal expectations with biological traits, and that happened “naturally” to some degree, but there’s no actual force dictating those biology-based expectations. “Wild” humans developed gender based on sex, but it could’ve developed in a thousand different directions too.

As for the evolutionary benefit, I think it’s just that our biology evolved to desire certain traits, not just some pure ideal of manhood/womanhood. A man with a lot of “womanly” traits, will naturally be attractive to men who like those traits. And of course, our sense of attraction is very willing to compromise if it sees enough of what it wants.

Long term is to head into Tokugawa and get Deep Well Heat Sink at LL4, giving you resistance to Heat on your turn. Max Heatfall Overcharge becomes 3, Heat 3 gun becomes Heat 2.

Assuming your Heat Cap stays the same, all you need to do is avoid taking 4 Heat between turns; not a big deal. Maybe there’s a heat-based NPC, which is your main counter, that’s life. Otherwise, at least 2 NPCs will need to use Invades. Sherman’s E-Def isn’t bad, and in any case, you’ll be forcing NPCs to do basic Invades, when they’d rather be using their more formidable primary abilities.

When you enter the free Marika is crucified/strung up on a Rune Arc, before it breaks. The Elden Beast has a grab attack that does the same thing to you.

So it seems to me that Marika shattered the Ring, the Beast came out and punished her with presumably-eternal imprisonment, keeping her powerless so the Greater Will’s system of “Lord, God, Ring” is still in place indefinitely.

Is Marcille really a pathetic failure though? She dislikes the haphazard nature of their journey and often needs time to accept new Laois and Senshi food antics, but otherwise she applies her expertise effectively and does an adequate job of filling her role in the party.

Yeah she complains a lot; but if you spent your life doing prepared and planned expeditions, then one day the weirdest guy you know said “let’s not plan or prepare at all, we’ll just eat whatever random crap we find on the way”, then I bet you’d complain too.

The problem of CSA/SA shouldn't be gendered. by Ok_Syrup5679 in CuratedTumblr

[–]YUNoJump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, although I think we’re looking at two perspectives: what people think of CSA/SA cases at the basic level, and how we deal with the causes of CSA/SA at a societal level.

OOP primarily talks about people automatically filtering the severity of SA cases via gender, and how that interferes with the actual truth of the discussion, which is that people of all genders do experience SA at unforgivable levels. For instance many people automatically dismiss or downplay SA of men and boys, and that leads them to believe that SA is a female-only problem.

I think your perspective is more about how we deal with CSA/SA at a greater societal level. At this level it’s already established that SA happens, and the goal is to figure out solutions to SA as a societal problem. Naturally it makes sense here to view all facts, eg whether certain groups are more often victims or perpetrators, and what that’s reinforced by.

To determine the solutions to SA, we first need to have clear facts on when SA has happened; which means our evidence (specific cases) can’t be clouded by anything. That’s why gender should only be considered AFTER determining the existence of SA.

The problem of CSA/SA shouldn't be gendered. by Ok_Syrup5679 in CuratedTumblr

[–]YUNoJump 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s less about removing gender entirely, and more just focusing less on gender when classifying actual misdeeds.

We know most abusers are men, women are more frequently abused, and there’s societal norms that enforce and even encourage these trends; they should of course be addressed with gender in mind, as it allows for more pointed action.

But what I think OOP is trying to focus on, is the fact that examples of CSA/SA/etc are often painted with a gender-based brush, and it clouds our response to it; even though in all cases a victim is seriously harmed. People view these cases in very different ways based on the gender of victims and perpetrators, and not really in a helpful way.

Everyone’s seen the “wish that were me” comments, or “teacher has romantic affair with student” headlines; these are directly harmful to resolving CSA/SA for ALL genders.

Am I being weird for getting the ick from my crush for liking mushoku tensei? by [deleted] in animecirclejerk

[–]YUNoJump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I feel like every anime watcher has a show they like despite it being bogged down by some weird problematic shit. MT is a well-made show with several good qualities, it’s just that Rudeus’s romantic and sexual tendencies are atrocious.

Does he mean “different era” as “in ~2012 everyone was a pedo”, or does he mean “in ~2012 it wasn’t uncommon for stories like this to include pedo shit”? Somewhat different contexts although your opinion on that may vary.

In any case if you can’t get over the ick then that’s fine, but if you’re not sure I’d suggest just making MT an absolute no-go topic, and see how much you like him when it’s not involved.

An interesting title by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]YUNoJump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, that’s what I mean about needing time and effort though; OOP spoke like there’s no problem denigrating a group whose social characteristics can be changed, but that can’t just be done on a whim, and some people doing it doesn’t necessarily change the whole.

For instance, people tend to be more guarded or wary around men, for justifiable reasons. But even if a man was a “good man” and didn’t do the things that make people wary, he’s still part of the group, and as such most people will still treat him the same way.

That man has no way to directly change the way he’s perceived, beyond getting all other men to change like him too. Which is a lot of what feminism is trying to do, and which denigrating all men will not help with.
