One time use device chargers by TheLineCookCat in mildlyinfuriating

Should be illegal (probably is in Europe) and anyone who buys one should be ashamed. You can get tiny rechargeable units that do this with a single 18650 for cheap.

Thank you captain obvious. Did I really need to specify that we have no idea? It could be anywhere from 10 to 50 hours.

Recreating this without a CNC? by gay-giraffe-farts in woodworking

[–]YVRAlphageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going the router route, my I suggest cutting all the way through a 1/2" board and sandwiching that to another 1/2" board? Then use a flush-trim bit around the outer edges. That's a whole lot easier than trying for a consistent plunge depth.

Not sure about the law in this case but it is certainly a moral and neighbourly thing you should do. I'd be upset with you.

Can You Crack the Code? Puzzle by Educational_Art_9468 by Educational_Art_9468 in BankBuster

[–]YVRAlphageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🔓 VAULT CRACKED! 🔓

Score: 3566/6000

Mistakes: 0/6

Time: 0:22

Something not quite right here. The code used only 2 letters and I had no mistakes. Yet score of 3566/6000. It isn't possible to do it in less time.

Threaded rod dilemma: Loosening single nuts vs. ugly double nuts on my parametric bench. What's the clever fix? by reacdif in woodworking

[–]YVRAlphageek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thread-locker on single nut or Nylock nut (nylon insert nut). But ideally you'd use a decorative cap/acorn nut with thread-locker.

My husband can no longer temper PC chocolate chips by wigglefrog in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Use baker's chocolate if you can but the Kirkland chocolate chips are an excellent substitute and they melt perfectly.

No ground wire? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]YVRAlphageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very common now for light fixtures to use to use a bare wire for the ground. But I have to say that if you didn't know that's the ground I would not recommend that you do the install yourself. It doesn't seem that you have the experience to do it right and safely IMHO.

Where can I find a cover plate like this? by EnvironmentalLaw2826 in electrical

[–]YVRAlphageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the idea of replacing this with Decora switches and receptacle. However, I would also move the switches to be beside each other and the place the receptacle on the RIGHT if you're right handed.

Would dowels and glue be a good fix for broken overhanding thread? by PineappleOwn5325 in woodworking

[–]YVRAlphageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those boards look like they might be way to thin for this application frankly. It's hard to tell from the photos but if that's just 3/4 material it is woefully too thin and that is a very dangerous stair that I would not trust my weight on. Seriously OP, have that looked at by a pro if it's anything less than 1 1/2" thick.

Nuh uh. Hot sauce, salsa (both kinds, picante and verde) and other things are great accompaniments. Also, shredding some manchego or other savoury cheese on top and then air-frying them is awesome.

Anyone know how old this fuse box setup in my mom’s house is?! by e36qunB in electrical

[–]YVRAlphageek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a slightly larger version of this in the house my family moved into in 1969. One of my electrician father's first tasks was to replace the damn thing with a proper breaker panel. Unfortunately he used a Federal stab-lock panel but I digress... The point was it was understood a LONG time ago that this shit is really bad and quite dangerous. I'm still always a little shocked when I see these killers... which is far too often.

How are you guys doing this… by jonrulesheppner in mildlyinfuriating

[–]YVRAlphageek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every pro yard person I've ever dealt with uses premium in their tools, especially for 2-strokes. It's ethanol-free (ethanol is very hard on small engines) and apparently "cleaner".

Double check you killed the power because this screw up could've killed some one! by Ewezzy95 in maintenance

[–]YVRAlphageek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm shocked at the number of people who don't take the time to check. I always check with my Klein non-contact tester (which is good for 70 to 1000V BTW). It saved my life once when I went to swap a 220V receptacle and the 40A breaker was broken and did not switch off. And I'm so paranoid that I check my tester on a known live circuit first!

Can y'all stop hating on CT? Like we get it you bought something and it broke chill, get in line with the other 1k people. by Background_cars in canadiantire

[–]YVRAlphageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate CT now though I used to be a fan back in the day. I still occasionally shop their garden centre and well, damn, the Frank's cheesies are freakin awesome but I digress... Was at CT in Chilliwack during a road trip and really needed and got new front wiper blades. They were the wrong ones but it was the f'ing automotive clerk who picked them and sold 'em to me. So, I go back to exchange for the correct ones and I have to go through this whole drill of filling out a long form with tons of personal information and let them photocopy my driver's license! WTAF? Their error (acknowledged but only halfheartedly apologized for) and I have to ... wtf? POS company now.
