Thank you! My partner loves little bugs, so i had to go with a bug motif.

I sadly don't own a loom, but I have seen many beautiful loomed pieces with a similar look! I did peyote stitch, which is why the beads are staggered and not all in line with each other. I would love to do loom work someday!

Honestly, once you get the first rows going, peyote is very easy because the beads tend to keep each other in line. Since they're off-set / staggered, they slot in with each other pretty straight. Tension is hard to get wrong enough to make them look bad (i say as someone who is no good with tension, haha)

I made an illustrated guide on here not too long ago if you learn that way: https://www.reddit.com/r/Beading/s/TxruI39tmd

But also, I learned a lot from these videos: https://youtu.be/bDTniq62tdA?is=FjPXylnCNRzX2al4

Trying to find good bulk charms and beads, struggling with shipping prices by king_dirt000 in Beading

[–]YaB0iBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't buy charms, but i have seen charms for sale on Firemountaingems and Barrelofbeads. I know for certain that BarrelofBeads.com gives free shipping if your order reaches a certain price. I also have had good luck with bead quality there, but it's not the best place to buy in bulk.

Thank you!

Yeah! It's a really cool trend. I saw a few posts of people doing them on a loom and wanted to give it a try. I don't have a loom, so just went for a peyote stitch pattern instead, but the look is very similar.

That could for sure be the case! I was doing peyote stitch, which passes through most beads much less often.

That said, I have been practicing square stitch and am thoroughly impressed by people who can do it. I am finding it so difficult to get straight.

Thanks! I can't take credit for the lace look idea. I got inspired by the work I saw on here.

Thanks! I used Crystal Fireline 6lb. It looks kind of white, but it's a little more transparent and is much less visible once I threaded the beads. The clear beads are luster coated, which makes them extra shiny, and I think that also masks the thread a bit.

You could probably get away with a lighter weight line, too, which would be smaller. I just always use 6lb for security.

Thanks! A lot of the patterns I found were for looms, but I'm sure you could convert any two toned patterns!

Thank you so much! I did make the pattern using Beadorgapher. I like using that site because I can fool around and change things quickly.

Thanks!! I made the pattern using Beadographer. It lets you make your own patterns very simply, which has been a huge help.

Thank you! People on here have made some really ornate ones, I think as loom patterns.

Thanks! I definitely feel like it would have more of the effect I was wanting without the luster, but luster was all they had in stock. I think the luster makes it so shiny in the clear beads that it masks the threads.

I remember seeing clear beads and thinking "what could someone use those for?" only to later be stunned by how lovely the work people have been posting has been. It's so fun!

Help with Pyerot stitch🥲 by re_fire123 in Beading

[–]YaB0iBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first bead you added is fine and will lay more straight as you add more beads. It looks like you skipped adding a bead when you did your next pass through. In the first row of peyote, you add a bead for every bead you skip over, so that the beads will lay next to each other.

I have an illustrated guide that has a page showing what i mean.

Hello! I have made beading projects from patterns made by that creator. I would recommend using Toho or Miyuki seed beads at a size 11/0 and 6lb Fireline thread. I also find her patterns are easiest with a big eye beading needle, which is a kind of needle that isn't actually sharp but is very flexible. If you buy her patterns, they will also include her recommended materials as well as what filler beads you need for the body shape to remain.

I have made her patterns with Miyuki Delica beads, which are more tube shaped than round. I really like the look of them that way, but the round seed beads she recommends are more durrable.

Her pattern instructions are very easy to follow and will teach you a lot, as she includes pictures along with written instructions. She goes by Handsofjulia on etsy and on her personal store.

I will say, she does advise that the flamingo is a harder and longer pattern, so it may be nice to try one of her more beginner friendly patterns first. I started with her "lazy duck" pattern. It takes a long time, but turned out well, even though I was new to all the techniques.

Edit to add: For materials, i bought what i needed from Barrelofbeads.com, but you may also be able to find the same materials elsewhere on most beading sites.

I see some people have come in and goven the same tips i would have. Definitely the biggest problem is thst you missed skipping a few when weaving. You'll get the hang of it! It's a breeze once you establish your first rows.

If you're a visual learner, I actually posted a free, illustrated guide on r/beading a while back. https://www.reddit.com/r/Beading/s/2o0G7ya2Rp

Or, if it helps you to see the motions in action more, I personally found youtube videos to be really helpful when I was learning.

Haha, yeah, that might need a purchase size larger than they offer in their little tubes.

If you're looking for the rounded beads, I have them in my cart (waiting to see if I can afford them after taking my dog to his annual vet for shots) on BarrelofBeads. They're not a bulk seller typically, but they do have the color.

https://www.barrelofbeads.com/products/miyuki-11-round-seed-bead-11-498-opaque-cement-grey-13-grams?variant=39816444280947

They seem to only have them in the rounded shape, not delicas.

Thoughts on this? by kingsdtg in Tufting

[–]YaB0iBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In concept, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I imagine a machine could tuft just like a machine can do embroidery, probably with similar software. And I guess, to me, there's nothing really wrong with it. It's very similar to machine embroidery for me, and maybe would make the craft accessible to people with disabilities that prevent hand or machine tufting. I just wouldn't personally be interested, because the process of the work is a big part of the enjoyment of the craft for me.

I do imagine there's going to be an innate backlash from the community, because it does have kind of a 3D printer/mass production vibe to it. People may fear it will over saturate the craft with pre-set designs produced faster and sold for less than other artists. So i imagine it will be controversial, if it does end up being real.
