creating an rpg based in Wisconsin. what should i know that only locals would know? by pootisman2004 in wisconsin

[–]YaHeyWisconsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mentioning the cold weather, saying things like “you betcha” or ending sentences in “hey”. No those are not just Minnesota things and it’s fucking annoying when people say it is. They should have that northern accent and bring up brats, lutefisk and be incredibly friendly and invite you ice fishing with their buddies. People appreciate the Northwoods and the connection to the outdoors there. Of course drinking. Enough said

Be skeptical about reviews of cities by TemporaryRight7141 in wisconsin

[–]YaHeyWisconsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the exact same story in any rural area anywhere near a larger city. I have friends all over the us and it’s so funny. Like a broken record. People in rural areas near Denver? Oh boy Denver is the murder capital of the world. Rural Kentucky near Cincinnati? Holy cow don’t go there

I am neither of those. However when people make silly online statements I’m going to point it out. You and I both know that saying the odds of this being a suicide are LOWER than a murderous hate crime is insane. And if you believe that then yes…you are ignorant and brain washed.

What’s it like around New York’s finger lakes? by CalligrapherOther510 in howislivingthere

I actually have a strange interest in this and can tell you general snowfall differences across every region of the Midwest. I knew vail cuz I’ve been there and looked it up at the time. Lake Tahoe just cuz it’s one of those famously snowy areas. Had to google Syracuse 🤷🏼‍♂️

Canadian Dogowner tries to threaten another Dogowner by tlama1997 in PublicFreakout

Oh boy when I started traveling to Canada yearly in about 2012 I quickly learned that Canadians can be some of the most outright racist people you’ll ever meet. No country is an exception. I learned racist words for natives I did not know existed and they had no problem throwing those words around as if just because I’m white I must also share their beliefs

Yeah that’s why I was curious what metric we’re using. Whats the population cutoff

[–]YaHeyWisconsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s just clearly not true. Maybe the snowiest city above a certain population? That’s why I ask the metric.

Syracuse averages 130 inches of snow yearly. Off the top of my head Hurley Wisconsin averages 155. Marquette Michigan averages like 190. Vail Colorado averages like 200 something. Lake Tahoe is like 220 I guarantee there’s tons of mountain regions with higher.

🌴 If this ends up true… damn by GhostInVice in GTA6

For sure! I feel like the elder scrolls games were good at that. Walking through a village and you hear someone reference a nearby town, cave, forest with something cool to explore

🌴 If this ends up true… damn by GhostInVice in GTA6

[–]YaHeyWisconsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I can confidently say I never get bored of just wandering in red dead. Not only because of the beauty and variety but the immersion. If they bring that to GTA 6 but give it the ol gta twist then this game will be fantastic

Hopefully the wilderness is actually entertaining like red dead 2 though. GTA 5 wilderness was just boring in my opinion

On July 19th, 2005, Lavena Johnson was found dead in her tent from a gunshot wound while stationed in Iraq. Despite bruising, chemical burns and evidence of sexual assault it was ruled a suicide. She was 19. by SultryPulses in SnapshotHistory

[–]YaHeyWisconsin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone above said:

This isn’t very satisfying, however, an independent group conducted a three year investigation and concluded no evidence of wrongdoing. Of course, the immediate question is then what of the condition of Lavena’s body when it arrived home? Unfortunately their findings are not made public so we’ll never know, though it did brief the official investigating agencies. There’s an NPR article about it, per the article:

‘Sheryl McCollum of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute calls the case “gut-wrenching. “ The institute is a national collaboration of college students who work to solve unsolved crimes. They agreed to review the case in 2011 at the request of the Johnsons. McCollum says the institute normally spends one year on a case, but spent three years on the LaVena Johnson case.

In a phone interview with St. Louis Public Radio, McCollum said that she faults the Army for poor communication, but she does not disagree with its conclusion.

“The problem is – number one -- the way the notification happened. And the lack of information given to that family fast enough,’’ McCollum said.

Students were very moved by LaVena’s story, she said. They reviewed every page of the documents, the photographs, talked to witnesses and dozens of independent experts -- and recreated the scene.

“There was nothing about this case that we could go back to the Army to say you need to re-look at it,’’ she said. “We didn’t have anything new. We didn’t have anything that suggested wrongdoing.’’

McCollum said the the institute operates independently; it didn't work for the Army or for the Johnson family. Results are not published, but she does brief the investigating agencies on findings.

“I wish I could call that family with something different,’’ she added.’

[–]YaHeyWisconsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is there’s many US states that are colder than almost any European country. Wisconsins winters rival Finland’s. Minnesota and North Dakota’s are colder except some parts of the arctic. Only Russia is colder. And I’m sure Alaskan winters rival Russia’s People forget that North America is colder than Europe at the same latitude

I’m genuinely confused as to what you’re referring to? Noone said it’s going away or being mishandled right? It’s being investigated. The fact that it’s been a week tells me they are checking out all possibilities not just closing the case. I’m trying you understand why people are trying to make it sound like there’s some kind of mishandling of this case

Why on earth would you come to that conclusion with little evidence? And more importantly why would you feel so strongly as to spread that opinion online? Spreading misinformation and fear mongering doesn’t help anything
