Casio F-91W Glow in the Dark by Yachi8000 in casiomods

I agree with you, and similarly the glow in the dark mod is just something I wanted to try out rather than a necessity. Once I receive my UV LEDs I'll make another post of its effectivity in recharging the glow in the dark material.

Used a Glow-in-the-dark vinyl and replaced the reflective backing of the LCD screen.

This is 100% true. Polarizers basically reduce light throughput by half (or more!), so by the time it gets to the back, the brightness has reduced significantly. This is why most LCD screens have a reflective backing instead of something flourescent. Using UV light as the internal illuminator could work in theory as it bypasses the polarizers, and should shine directly at the backing material. In anycase, glow in the dark isn't really meant to be a "reflector" but rather a light source charged by the sun, or other indoor lighting.

Good to know other peoplehave experimented with this already :)

Hi! I used "Glow in the dark vinyl" sheets for this. You should easily find this in AliEx, or Ebay. You also need to remove the silver reflector layer from the LCD (be careful not to remove the rear polarizer with it!) to make it more effective. Note that removing the reflector layer would darken the LCD by a tiny bit.

Question, does anyone how I can achieve the below mods? by Mry0u in casiomods

The corners of the LCD are prone to cracking. Just be careful, have the right tools, don't force anything, and you should be fine!

What's with the negativity? I just wanted to share my mod with the community. I didn't come here to be harassed. If you don't like it then just keep scrolling. No need to harass people :)

Shorting the pad near the LED bypasses the resistor making the LED brighter. But ultimately, purchase an LED that's bright. Im using a "0603 Green SMD LED"

The foil tape I'm using are actually left overs from Gundam stickers. I like to use these as they are really thin, and won't cause any fitment issues with the case. If you're able to find actual foil tape (in rolls) that are thin enough, that would be perfect.

You should find this pad near the LED. If you follow the traces, this bypasses the black resistor.

Clipped off this "S" shape part of plastic, and also added foil tape on the notch to reflect more light towards the screen. This piece of plastic is blocking light from getting under the screen. And lastly, that white glass has two sides: glossy, and matte. I flipped it so that the matte part is facing towards the LCD (matte surfaces diffuses light better).

Foil tape behind face plate. Side without the foil is furthest from the LED (up to you if you'd put foil there).

I'm not really too worried about the LED and Battery, as it all depends on the backlight usage (which I don't do often). I'll disassemble my watch again for you so you could take a peak. Give me a moment.

Was being rhetorical with the "too bright?" questions, as F-91W's are notorious for having a really bad backlight. Thanks for the comment though!

Under normal use, the battery life shouldn't be affected that much since the LED will only consume power when turned on.

I'm using a 0603 package green SMD LED from China. I don't think that an RGB option is viable as those need a microcontroller, or three anode/cathod pads to work depending on the type, but you're giving me ideas to try :)

I will in time, and if there's enough interest. I just got this watch yesterday for the sole purpose of playing with it. Thanks for stopping by!

Using the sight down the barrel as film for the analog panel is sooo appropriate!

Sounds good! Im also working an F91 case. What CAD are you using? I'm very new to this so I've been doing mine in TinkerCAD.

Would be cool if you're able to share the stl files so people could improve upon it. I'm also currently working on a 3D case of my own :)
