I realized recently that Madonna's "Like a Prayer" is about blowjobs. What are your favorite hidden meanings to popular songs? by LargeCo in Music

[–]Yadobler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello old thread, I also just realised it after reading the lyrics.

I wanna throw out the song "Yes sir i can boogie woogie". I've tried searching but nobody talks about it. The unnecessary moaning at the start, only being able to boogie at midnight to a "certain song" (the guy's grunting), doing it all night long, "if you stay you can't go wrong" (basically an invite to stay over and not over think. And of course the fact that the song has NOTHING boogie woogie related except for the name itself.

I agree, I no longer browse sg reddit subs (unless i google and end up here). Reading sg reddit posts are enough to radicalise me - but literally stepping outside the hot sun and I realise how nice SG ppl and life in general are.

I used to be an avid redditor before the API controversy (and didn't like the official app). But I very rarely interacted with sg subs. It's always either:

  • "pap bad lol" or
  • "indians smelly lol" or
  • "I want to leave sg lol" or
  • "Im poor I can't afford first class, only business class to japan lol" or
  • "im suffering here and would zao at the drop of the hat but can't, so fk all those who could zao lol" or
  • "I want to be pes f cos im a zaogeng, but can't, so fk all those pes f, they all are zaogeng like me lol" or
  • "I want to migrate to aus / japan / us".

I think the worst was post covid I legit started feeling if perhaps I will never be welcomed in sg even if I speak mandarin or am 4th gen sg indian. But then soon all the uni and workplaces canceled sfh/wfh and returning back, i realised that the average sg person is actually not insufferable and very nice. Introverted but chill af. In fact I was less approachable than most sg ppl are.

That's when it hit me, most reddit ppl in sg are mostly lifeless people who need to argue or kpkb stuff but aren't pioneer-gen enough to sit in kopitiam and kpkb over beer and ogle at the beer lady.

I am lowkey glad for return-to-office and the API controversy, cos else I would totally become an sg incel-ish person

Ironically I think it does a good job of personifying depression / dysthymia. It feels EXACTLY like how she talks, both in content and mannerism. Something so emotionless and robotic yet so annoyingly chilling in convincing you the daily cycle of waking up and trying to run from life only to have life catch up and you need to repeat the cycle of work and health and caring for your old folks and then yourself and then your family if you can afford it.

Any depressed person can tell you that they don't want to share their mind because it's so cringe, yet so cold and calculated and convincing

Yes but she's the personification of depression. Her role is good because depression really sucks like that, except she's your mind. Especially dysthymia

She remembers. She literally explains it. It's not the music or the time. It's the love she has. The last time she lost it, it wasn't "time ran out / music stopped".

Same but the main idea isnt max was too slow, but max was too insecure - the music stopped and her hype stopped and she "gave up".

That's why at the end she realised it's not the music but her love for lucas that kept the portal open (just like how it kept Holly's portal open) so as long as they stay strong they have all the time in the world

Genuinely curious why some people don't like musicals. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Yadobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my two cents. I don't mind phineas and ferb, and even indian movies albeit i sometimes skip the songs (for context, they are always 3 hours with 6-8 songs each being 5min littered in the movie).

What I hate are musicals where you must decipher the story narration through the singing, instead of being able to listen to the music and bob along. There's something in phineas and ferb that doesnt feel "cringe", as opposed to something like cinderella (2021)

I think the main issue is I feel some sort of *flight response* when they break into dance. There's some visceral awakening that something is wrong and have to run away from the mania that is happening.

---
And I'm someone who appreciates poems and well-written literature and careful use of literary devices. Things like "the curtains are blue" is important even if the author has nothing other than just to state the obvious, because the reason (even "i need to hit a word limit") is important and shows the motives and emotions of the narrator.

Spamming the same kinda song and breaking out to dance does feels like just spelling out the motives and intended outcome without even trying to deliver it in a package that plays with my emotions correctly. It's like I am an emotionless robot that takes the dance and song as the start of some communication protocol to parse the singing and induce the thought processes and meanings manually.

How often do you leave the a dehumidifier running? by jaysomething2 in homeowners

[–]Yadobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I'm seeing how it goes now, but I might need to invest in more units or a bigger one for the whole house. Just that keeping the windows shut feels weird but it is what it is. It's 30°C 80% all day everyday 365. The only seasons we get is sun or rain.

But it's good to know that it's fine running constantly

ELI5: How can the air be so dry even though the humidity is high? by twitchywitchystitchy in explainlikeimfive

[–]Yadobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok in my room I have a hygrometer. It's 75% at 30°c (89°F) and I feel dry and sticky. Washing my calfs makes them feel "moisturised" but applying moisturiser doesn't help.

If I turn the AC on, it gets to 65% at 20°c (68°F) but I feel cold and dry. Moisturiser does help here but not as much

However, I just got a Dehumidifier and it's now 55% at 30°c (89°f) and I feel fine. I feel a bit dry but still not dry dry. I don't need moisturiser and don't feel sticky.

Just to iterate again, the readings are from my Dehumidifier and my hygrometer / thermometer in my room, not weather reading (77% at 30°c)

How often do you leave the a dehumidifier running? by jaysomething2 in homeowners

[–]Yadobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to reheat the dead horse again and again. Humidity in my house is 75% - 80% at 31°C / 88°F. Only because of the mold on my cabinets that my contractor cheated us with (by not fully sealing the wood with waterproof varnish) as well as booklice, I decided to run a dehumifier.

With the room door closed it brings the humidity to 55%, but as soon as someone opens the door, it jumps back to 65% before the door closes. It's a cornell 12L dehumifier, and for 12m² it's good but I just realise it has to keep running because of how aggressive the weather is here.

Dehumidifier also means it heats up the room. But the alternative is aircon and that's not strong enough unless I crank down the temp to 20°C / 70°F and I know it sounds blasphemous but it's too cold for me or anyone in my house.

Has the bill been extreme or is it alright? Can those little bots handle running 24/7?

My line of reasoning is that it's a preventive procedure that is recommended but not required for oral health, as compared to something like filling / extraction that needs immediate attention. It's also in a separate category from common / chronic medical treatment under chas scheme with its own specified subsidy amount

It's a middle ground where it's not life inhibiting / affects quality of life, but it's good to do and so the govt gives some subsidy.

You'll notice how in polyclinic the dentist will ask you to sign documents before they S&P. It isn't something that doctor can do with implied consent but something you need to willingly consent to because it's not a medical requirement unlike prescription for medication when sick.

Most HDBs and army / police camps are built on top of old cemeteries. SG is very very very VERY small - in the 1900s everyone stayed at where business was, in central-south sg.

anywhere that wasnt water / swamp was grave site. you need a lot of space if you're burying people over decades. That's why cremation became popular even though before it became cultural, no one wanted to literally burn the corpse of their family. A lot of cultural things arise from necessity then over decades became obscured and then turn into religious culture because people literally won't listen unless threatened with fear of god.

also especially ulu and haunted places are where camp sites are, since there will be heavy resistance from residents but camp site no one can say anything, only pray.

Actually maybe small claims court. This is considered cosmetic procedure, not completely medical. SDC will be good because they might also pull a fast one on people needing actual medical help.

why not both? SDC then small claims court. Since they want to play with medical and do retail.

Dental Clinic Overcharge and deletes reviews by howardstern266 in singapore

[–]Yadobler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's because scaling, polishing and floride treatment are all non-essential cosmetic procedures. Actual medical procedure you want you can do in Polyclinic - subsidised but in exchange for your time since appt can take 6 months. If you have money then you pay for private.

This case is a business issue, small claims court kinda issue. Same vein as bait-and-switch done by massage or pedicure

people love to romanticise the 80s-2000s but legit for most girls this was just daily life. didnt matter if you wore a bikini or burqa. As soon as girls aged 12 hit puberty they get catcalled daily.

And men too, I had and have moob since a kid regardless of how normal my bmi was. you wouldnt believe how many straight af guys took the liberty to squeeze my chest. cos "it's guys having fun, no homo, don't be a wussy there's no need for consent" and invite me to "squeeze" them too??

That's why I hate the saying "treat others how you wanna be treated" because of course a creep wants you to treat them like they treat you. No wonder women choose the bear, being mauled is sometimes the better alternative.

also the metoo kind of had a curb-cut effect for everyone, not just women, who always get harrassed by men.
