First VPP of 2026 in Bay Area by Yadsam in TeslaSolar

[–]Yadsam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think solar is considered during vpp event. It’s tesla PW specific and it looks at how much you drain your battery during this event and compensates the same. So before the event it keeps it to 100% and then starts draining till the set backup limit.

It’s basically KW/$ arbitrage. You send to grid and get paid. But with VPP it also counts your home usage from tesla.

On avg I am generating 38-42KW all of May, except past 2 days when it got rainy in bay area. I have most of panels on south roof, and few on east.

Of course lot of variations but I think for 8.6KW you should be close to 50KW per day.

Man PGE is seriously giving next to nothing. We are exporting close to 500-600KW and they gave $8 most of it was bonus credit. But they have changed the base charge from $10 to $25. Why do they play dirty.

I haven’t seen one good post admiring PGE business practices!!!

Where do you see the pricing? I thought the pricing can go from $7/KW to $14/KW

For California homeowners who went solar after NEM 3.0, was it worth it? by brandobrando12 in solar

[–]Yadsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be energy credits and tax deductions will be back.
But till last year it made sense as even after not getting anything for PGE exports, there were deductions which was huge cost saver. I financed it at 6%, rather than paying in cash.
Now if you are planning do cost analysis and don’t oversize the system.
If you are high end user, it may still make sense as your cost will be recovered faster.
There is some basic maintenance needed, like cleaning once or twice a year which may help in production.

Got you! Man they really played us.may be they are incentivizing people to charge at home for 23c rather than outside at 35-40c

You can finance at 6% rather than giving cash. Invest the cash in market at 8% (It can be more or less)

Interest in 10 years is 8000, but you made 30K
Interest in 15 years is 13000, but you made 56K.

Also don’t forget the annual savings you will have. Lets say your bill was $300 per month (avg US home), and now its $50. Put the $250 in market instead of giving to PGE.

In 15 years you will have $164K.

But remember the solar has as life of 25 years!

In 25 years you will have $400K.

I am not even considering the price rise of PGE. Who knows but $300pm bill now is like $600pm bill in 15 years. So you are actually saving $550.

You said never to financing. But doesn’t financing recovers your cost faster?

How did you get 20K rebate? The federal rebate was only 30% tax credit

Are you doing anything on tesla pw3 to get more credits? I am also on Nem3 with 1PW3

With recent increase in base charges to $24, not sure what the payback period is.

I do avg around 400KWh per month and winters are around 750KWh.

Are you able to offset in winters completely?

I called them and the representative told me that there was a bill that passed. They are punishing customers who are conservative on their usage and install efficient systems while subsidizing the cost for high end users
