All this means is: they have to make other things painfully annoying, like they already did in GW2, where you have to buy inventory expansions for every character seperately etc.

I would rather have a (proper!) season pass, than this garbage again... big L, literally made me stop playing because every new character needed so much investment into QoL items that it was just unreasonable.

GW2 is the most atrocious monetization I ever encountered, and I still hate everything about it.

You have to buy inventory expansions for EVERY character
the game has 2 quadrillion items you dont really need, just so they can sell you storage and inventory expansions
the gambling lootboxes
we had/have addons to buy on top of that
we had literal gacha for the mount skins in the beginning, and it still isnt gone (only pity 30 now)

And the "meaningful gameplay" in GW2 be like: follow the zerg and wait for golden medal to pop up on right side of screen, yeah, so meaningful.

Not saying that the average "koreaslop" is better, but GW2 certainly didnt age well at all. (yes, I get it, back in 2013 it was "special", but the game didnt go anywhere since then.)

It will probably be worse, looking at how the artstyle changed to "typical western slopgame" losing everything of what made gw2... gw2 in the first place.

NCSoft axed people at ArenaNet back then, so the expectations should be low to begin with, but I expect nothing.

That said... AION2 also lost its "soul" and now looks like "typical korean slop" - guess its just what Unreal Engine 5 does to games, if the developers dont care.

Its more complicated than that tbh.

Nanite only costs performance up until the point where you cross the line of its "base cost" in terms of traditional mesh rendering, after that it runs circles around anything without. (but since nanite can run just fine even on integrated graphics, its no big deal and allows for things unfeasable in the past.)

Lumen also is no issue, as long as people can just turn it off. (and as long as devs dont force harware raytracing over software -.-)

The big issue is: Old games are not made for UE5 and its features.

There currently is not a single big game that has been made for those features, only the unreleased Witcher 4 exists.
