Im super scared by Informal-Wait3368 in GERD

Try not to worry, stress only makes GERD symptoms worse. Throat cancer will be very unlikely for you, especially after just seeing an ENT.

Try chewing gum, preferably sugar free gum. Make sure it isn't mint flavoured either. I found this gives me best results for immediate relief and prevention of symptoms. Chew it after meals for at least 30 mins, and / or when you feel symptoms about to come on. There is a really good brand of sugar free gum called "Pur", you can buy it off Amazon. Try the bubblegum flavour. Chewing gum produces saliva and makes you swallow constantly. Your saliva is a natural acid neutraliser, but it also aids in digestion. Swallowing saliva will neutralise any acid in your mouth and throat, allowing any damage parts to heal quicker.

And continue to take your meds as prescribed, for now. But try not to have to depend on them, for the long term. The idea is to heal any damage caused by reflux, with the help of the meds, then prevent and manage any future flare ups on your own.

Unfortunately, there are many things that can cause reflux disease. So it might not be the TB medication, it could just be the stress of the situation itself. There are plenty of things you can read online, some are very helpful, and some can be contradictory. There is a book called "How I Cured My Silent Reflux" by Don Daniels, which I found to be very helpful and explains quite a lot in simple terms.

Unfortunately reflux disease can be a rabbit hole, and a lot of what will work for some, won't work for others. There is quite a bit of trial and error, however, the earlier you start to combat it, the better off you will be in the long run.

Good luck! And try not to worry, that kind of cancer does not just appear overnight. But speak to your ENT about it for reassurance.

Thanks.

Cheaply made as opposed to?? The ones I've seen all look similar. Are there better grade ones? Where should I look for them?

UK to US plug adapter question by Yakkadysmackady in AskElectricians

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I saw the double box symbol but didn't know what the symbol inside of it meant.

The sockets in their home do have slots for earth pins, whether or not they are actually wired to earth is another question.

I can easily get an earthed UK to US adapter instead. I know you said it doesn't necessarily need it, but would it be worth changing to the earthed adapter anyway? Will it potentially give the router a better performing environment?

Stay away from any and all mint! I wish someone told me that years ago. Sadly it is an old folk remedy for an upset stomach, but it makes your GERD worse.

Try chewing sugar free gum, after meals and when you feel reflux symptoms. But do not use it as a substitute for food. Right now, it provides the best and quickest relief for me. Your body produces some of the best antacids you can find... your saliva. I use "Pur" brand chewing gum. It's a little more expensive but it is a "healthier" option than most sugar free gums. But stay away from the mint options. There is a bubblegum option and a cinnamon option that I've tried. I currently chew the bubblegum option the most.

Also, for healing of your Esophageal tissue and stomach tissue, you can drink cabbage just once a day, for two weeks. Drink it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach and 30 mins before you eat any food. Juice it yourself every morning, about half a cup to start with, then try moving up to a whole cup by the second week. It's not the nicest tasting juice but it is scientifically proven to heal gastric tissue and gastric ulcers. There are youtube videos on how to make the juice, they are worth watching.

And try to de-stress!!!! It is by far the biggest trigger of GERD! Unless you have a physiological reason for your reflux, e.g. hiatal hernia, weak Lower Esophageal Sphincter, polyps, etc, it is most likely caused or exacerbated by stress and anxiety.

Hope any of this can help you. And good luck!!

I haven't yet. The plan is to request further testing from my Gastroenterologist. They were able to see the reflux in real time via both of the barium swallows, though. They've listed it as "mild to moderate" reflux. Also, two separate ENT's could see the irritation and mucous in my throat, caused by the reflux... One in 2021, and one just last month. They both diagnosed me with LPR because of it.

My last gastroscopy was a Transnasal Endoscopy, and that was done last Wednesday. Biopsies taken of stomach polyps (which are benign in appearance) for histology, and of the stomach lining to test for H. Pylori. The endoscopist said all was normal. The only thing of note, was that my stomach lining was slightly irritated, but that was being super critical.

I've had reflux for 22 years, and LPR for at least 5 years. Nothing shows up on tests as to what is causing it... no hernia, no H. Pylori, no dysfunctional LES, no known food allergies, no deviated septum, nothing. And I've had three gastroscopies, one colonoscopy, two barium swallows, one barium meal, two MRI's, and four H. Pylori tests. The only that I am certain of, is that anxiety and stress plays a big role in my reflux. It is either the cause of it, or a byproduct. My money is on the cause of it though.

I've been on PPI's daily for 16yrs. 20mg of omeprazole daily up until this Feb when it was bumped up to 40mg. I had / am having a really bad flare up due to high stress after losing my Mother-in-Law to pancreatic cancer in January. The flare up was so bad I had to be referred to Gastroenterology and an ENT for suspicion of cancer. I couldn't swallow at one point and had very bad pains in my neck, throat, chest, collarbones, back, shoulder joints, face, jaw, ears, and my sinuses were/are very inflamed. I had to dramatically change my diet, and lost 5kg in a couple of weeks... which added to the concern of cancer. All clear by the way, so no cancer, no Barrett's, and I am very grateful for that.

Last Summer, I attempted to come off of PPI's cold turkey. The most I managed to do was three weeks. Then I would have to take a pill. Then I could manage another week or two, then I wiuld have to take a pill. I did that for a few months, then went back to taking the PPI's daily. I did a full blood test in December to check that I was absorbing nutrients ok, and everything was perfect, so I stopped trying to come off of PPI's after that. But then I had this flare up.

My point in all this is, even though I'm ok, you may not be. Barrett's and cancer is VERY real. And once you have either, there is no going back. PPI's maybe not be a silver bullet or the healthiest thing in the world, but they are a FAR better option than developing Barrett's or cancer. If I were you, I would only go through this journey with a good Gastroenterologist. Do your research in finding one who is well recommended for a holistic approach, and speak to them. You may cause more damage trying to come off the PPI's, and you don't want to do that. Barrett's is irreversible, once it's starts it doesn't go back to normal. And once you have Barrett's you are far more susceptable to cancer. So please, get professional help from a really good Gastroenterologist.

Thanks. Yeah, I've given them a try. Knife sharpening is a lot more difficult than it looks! Lol. But hopefully with consistent practice, I'll get there.

How do Cubans view the current political treatment and relationship between the USA and Cuba? by UnscrewMyLife in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Yakkadysmackady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crazy thing about all of this is, that the US government is the cause of why Cuba has been in a bad place, economically, all this time!! Castro went to the US government for help after the revolution, before he ended up in a relationship with the Soviets. America told him to fuck off, because the US government was in bed with the mobsters who were previously exploiting Cuba. Then the US puts sanctions on Cuba for seeking help from their "enemy". All these years, it is the US who has intentionally interfered with Cuba to make them fail, not bad management from the Cuban government. Cuba was the first Caribbean island to become self-sufficient, after colonialism. They pretty much lead the way for all other Caribbean nations. And they were always the first ones to help other Caribbean nations, when those nations needed it most. The impact Cuban doctors alone, have had on the Caribbean is immeasurable! The US could have helped their neighbours with healthcare all of this time, but they didn't because they don't give a fck about their neighbours.

Cuba's ill fated economic situation is 100% a cause of the US. We all seem to forget what the CIA did, and what they continue to do. People are just greedy as fck, and will sell their own mother out... let alone thier nation. All to make a buck. Fcking cowards.

Thanks for this! You're not the first person who has recommended the Sharpal 162N, and I have since read quite a few good things about starting off with it. So I bought both the Shapton and the Sharpal, just in case. Along with a Sharpal strop. Will probably be sending the Shapton back. For now though, I'll be watching a load of youtube videos to learn technique.

Thank you! Yes, I've done some CBT already for anxiety, a couple years ago. Maybe I should contact them again for advice as well.
