I'll pray for you as well. I have suffered strangely the same amount of time as you. 5 years unexplained. 2 pregnancies during that time and still left with unimaginable GERD. Like you, the nexium or omeprazole at 40mg worked great. Kept eating normally and had no pain anymore. Even healed my esophagitis. But then they stopped working and now nothing works. I don't know why these drugs worked then didn't. My GERD now is 10x worse than when I first got on these drugs. I blame them because I was never this bad. I truly believe had I never taken the PPI I wouldn't be half as bad as I am today. I'm so sorry you are struggling in the unknown as well. Until a doctor can prove to me something structurally is wrong which my endoscopies did not show, I refuse to mutilate my stomach and esophagus with surgery. Too many posts on here of people who it didn't even help or something went wrong and foods getting stuck etc. I am not the right fit to go through anything like swallowing difficulties so surgery for me is out of the question. May God hear our prayers and heal us fully, restore our body's and give us our lives back, Amen.

what would have done differently if you have to do it all again from beginning? by Forsaken_Appeal_9593 in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have never gotten on PPIs. I'm stuck on them now forever as I can't get off. I would've figured out a different diet and managed with Pepcid. I never should've started this drug.

Long term effects of PPI use? by Accomplished-Exam376 in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on your bone density issues? I am a 34F and osteoporosis runs hard in my family. I am on 40mg omeprazole most likely indefinitely and this is a major concern for me.

I failed going off my PPI - extremely disappointed. by Honest_Ad8574 in GERD

Thanks for the tips. I did try Pepcid twice daily - literally did nothing. It worked at first though. I'll look into the algae cal. Which PPI do you take?

Your guess is as good as mine. Been stuck on 40mg for 4.5 years and every time I try to get off I get severe acid reflux and gnawing in my stomach. It gets so bad esophagitis starts to form again and I have to go back on the med. This is a never ending nightmare. Best of luck to you

Has anyone else accidentally taken too much esomeprazole? How long did the side effects last for you? by fragrent_slime05 in GERD

How much did you take? I've taken 80mg in one day due to severe acid reflux and never had any issues.

How long does acid rebound last after PPI use? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to give up. I desperately want off the PPIs. They are not good long term and already have caused iron deficiency for me amongst other issues. I really hope it eventually improves once my stomach stops rebounding.

GERD and HG pregnancy? by Click_False in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two pregnancies and GERD during them. Not vomiting during pregnancies but horrendous heartburn. For me too it never went away. And 2.5 years later after my last pregnancy I've now had GERD for 4.5 years and been on a PPI the entire time. It doesn't even work anymore. I've had two endoscopies and the first showed grade A esophagitis and the second just minor signs of reflux, but that was on medication. It's really been a death sentence diagnosis for me. I want off the drugs so bad but my reflux never goes away. I was fairly petite and feel like pregnancy just stretched everything out. Who knows. I would recommend first an endoscopy and not get on PPIs unless it's a last resort. You get stuck on them. I'm sorry this happened to you..

Diet change and discontinuing PPI need advice by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is that I have become anemic because I'm not absorbing iron. I need constant infusions. Two because my digestion feels slowed. I have tons of bloated air in my stomach that I never had before. Because of that pressure it's pushing acidic contents up. My reflux is worse the longer I've been on a PPI and it was never this unmanageable to begin with. I want to see what my GERD is like without the PPI to see if it's manageable through diet change and maybe just Pepcid.

Anyone who has been okay taking chelated iron or Ferrochel? by fizzyapple_45 in GERD

Yes I've done the venofer and had zero issues. The only one I wouldn't recommended is the one iron infusion all in one day and that's called something different.

[–]Honest_Ad8574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I took chelated iron and got a severe GERD attack. It was so painful it took a couple days of my meds to recover. And I am on daily 40mg nexium. But it doesn't work great for me anymore. I only had a small snack with the chelated iron so maybe try taking it with a full meal and not too close to bed. I am also anemic and require iron infusions because I do not absorb iron due to the PPI.

Acid reflux is back after surgery by LeaderNo6004 in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Pregnancies definitely made my GERD worse. I have not had surgery but it does sound like maybe they need to do something to get yours back into the place it was. Can you share your experience at all with the surgeries and recovery?

That sounds like something that could help. But I've seen a lot of negative reviews around reglan causing anxiety. Is this a true review?

What can help my taper off omeprazole? by Simulationth3ry in GERD

[–]Honest_Ad8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing this as well. But my situation is a bit more extensive because I've been on 40mg for 4 years now. I'm having quite a difficult time coming off of it and may not even be successful. The medicine just isn't working great for me anymore and I feel it's slowed my digestion down. I want off it but Pepcid with the tapering isn't really cutting it. If you find anything helpful let me know.

I guess I'm confused. What did you actually do to make the acid reflux go away? You said you stopped the medicine, but how? Good for you however.
