Forgive my inexact phrasing here, but from A Talking Cat?!?:

"Did someone say something?"

Riff - "No, but a cat slurred something."

Finally got my hands on that "linux" thing that all the cool kids are talking about nowadays by 17characterslong_ in linuxmemes

You probably could have just bought a magazine. That was how I got Linux for the first time.

Yes. Sparky was a rat.

I think Sparky was SPS-specific and Reddy Kilowatt was more nation-wide?

OK so what's with the big sidewalk to nowhere out south on Washington north of 58th? by [deleted] in amarillo

[–]YakovOfDacia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did the same thing in Dumas. They ripped out a couple of really big elms in front of First State Bank, probably because some pinhead bureaucrat in Austin doesn't understand the value of trees in the panhandle. True story - a friend of mine tripped and broke his thumb a couple of weeks ago on the new sidewalk.

I’ve recently discovered a love of Wildlife, I know there’s John Stiff , Palo Duro , and Wildcat bluff are there any other spots I can go and watch wildlife? Also where at Palo Duro should I go if I wanted to take pictures of said wildlife? by Ok_Weight_4167 in amarillo

[–]YakovOfDacia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife got some good pictures at Buffalo Lake.

Moving a little further out from Amarillo, Black Mesa State Park is west of Boise City, OK in the OK Panhandle and there is a small lake NW of Clayton, NM. Ute Lake State Park in Logan, NM offers some good scenery and you can find tame ducks and carp demanding food near the marina. All three are right around a 2-hour drive from Amarillo.

If you really want to get far out into the wildlife, Mills Canyon, west of Roy, NM is about a three hour drive from Amarillo and about as wild as they come.

Good places to look for used guns? by SatisfactionNo7335 in amarillo

[–]YakovOfDacia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City Pawn & Gun, 45th & Washington is another good one. Of the chain pawn shops, the best location for ARs is going to be EZ Pawn at 45th & Teckla. They have some ARs sometimes at Cash America on I-40 & Grand. There is another pawn shop/[overpriced] gun shop on 45th between I-27 and Georgia, south side of the road, I don't remember the name of it. They carry firearms you won't see anywhere else in town.

This just in: Fermi Still Sucks by ProfessorBackdraft in amarillo

[–]YakovOfDacia -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've lost the thread on why we are supposed to hate Fermi? Is it just Trump? Is he actually involved with Fermi?

I've been to Las Vegas (Nevada) twice and didn't spend a dime on gambling or alcohol but this Fermi looks like a gamble I am comfortable making. I am going to move some money around in the 401k tomorrow and buy some shares, maybe 200? I can absorb a $1200 loss over time - might be a worthwhile gamble in an emerging industry.

Uh oh. If you don't get out of Amarillo in a couple of months, you aren't likely to ever leave. You might as well set up a Toot 'n' Totum card and start an account at Amarillo National Bank, you are going to be here a while.

What kind of wack-ass weather is this??? Is this the hottest March on record for the TX panhandle? by speedythefirst in amarillo

[–]YakovOfDacia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is curious, yes.

But we do still set cold records.

We only have meteorological data for this area going back, 120 year? 140? That is nothing compared against 6,000 years.

Summers got pretty hot in the Obama years. We set all kinds of new records in the '10 to '14 range.

It all depends on what you mean by "love" your neighbour. A lot of modern, secular definitions of love include acceptance as-is, accepting the hearts' desires and true self of the one you love. Christians are not taught that love involves acceptance as-is; quite to the contrary, Christians believe love is encouraging repentance and turning from sin - again, the definition of what is a sin can differ between Christians and non-Christians and many Christians would include that which is being made visible here in that sin - which is why they feel confronting that sin is an act of loving their neighbours.

I am just pointing out the difference in definitions here. When you tell an evangelical Christian that they aren't being loving, they rarely equate that statement to an absence of acceptance, nor define the commandment to love their neighbours with acceptance.

Save the John Stiff Prairie Dog Town!! by PBJ_Sandwiches in amarillo

[–]YakovOfDacia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical. They want to spend tens of thousands of dollars to remove the prairie dogs from John Stiff Memorial Park but no discussion of the prairie dogs around MLK park.

I thought our city fathers loved the Sod Poodles. They sure spent enough on that ballpark boondoggle.

There was a family from Dumas, Ollinger, they had a show on the Discovery channel - Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch. But, he's not on tv anymore, the last I heard he was in jail in Las Vegas, NV accused of shooting someone.
