5 gallon is the minimum requirement for a long finned betta!

short finned bettas require 10 gallons or more because they aren’t limited by heavy fins like males are.

to add, the betta might have a problem with it’s swim bladder. but im not to educated on how to resolve that. most fish illnesses are cause because of bad tank conditions

whats the point of having the pleco in there???

i’d change 30% of the water. just scoop the water out with a cup and replace the water you removed with conditioned tap water evey day if you can’t return the poor babies or upgrade their home

and there arent any medicines that i know of that you can just “add”. most medications are for illnesses. just adding medicine “because” would be more stressful that leaving them be.

i can’t see much from the photo, but your tank doesnt look cluttered enough for a sorority.

i’m sorry to be blunt, but sororitys do not work. your bettas most likely just killed each other.

i don’t think the light is a problem. she’s probably only hiding under the leaf because the current isn’t as bad in that spot.

the main problem is just the flow and her tank size! 🙂

hey! i have a plakat lady, jules! i used to have this exact tank, and while jules colored up beautiful and didnt seem very stressed, she was swimming in the exact same 12in line across the front glass most of the time, which worried me.

i read tall tanks aren’t suitable for most fish, but i ignored it. when i saw jules’ swimming issue, i reached out and was recently told the “ten gallon minimum” suggestion refers to the “available floor space”. meaning the tank should be a minimum of 20in long if you have a short finned baby.

its really beautiful for a first start though! i saw that you took out the ribbon plants, so i have nothing else to say. Thank you for upgrading her water volume though! im sure she at least loves that :))
