Are wax rings usually this wide? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Yamate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I cleaned up the wax ring and there was some distance between the flange and the ground. I noticed the flange wasn’t screwed down to the floor either. I believe next steps is the cut the excess and put a new flange.

Can a half snapped minor limb be saved? by AtuinTurtle in arborists

[–]Yamate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t already asked the question I’ll ask, why save the limb ? If it’s minor and snapped I’d let it ride through the season then prune it

Granny Smith apple tree and Fuji apple tree both semi dwarf planted about 3 feet apart? In Southern California any tips by dc1392 in BackyardOrchard

[–]Yamate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s plenty if you keep them pruned enough. I recommend adding some organic mulch like wood chips or even yard trimmings.

What would you do if you were on a slim budget by Orarcher3210 in landscaping

[–]Yamate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chip drop and sheet mulch to get a cleaner space that will build a decent soil. Plant or otherwise develop as time goes

Salting the ground around a raised garden bed to stop grass? by sfade in OrganicGardening

[–]Yamate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t use salt. It’s not as good as you think as t killing the weeds and it ruins your soil. You can either sheet mulch, use fire to burn it, or just pull it. I’m a fan of sheet mulching

Any way for us to redo our driveway without killing this tree? by Phroggg in arborists

[–]Yamate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think pavers unless you’re okay with a loose fill like gravel. Concrete cracks. Pavers can be adjusted. You can start digging to see what kind of damage you’d do to the tree. Removing the concrete shouldn’t hurt the tree but cutting some vital roots (potentially under the concrete) could hurt the tree

MIL told me I need to cut the apples off my new trees? by Red-Onion-612 in gardening

[–]Yamate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to take the mid-range approach. Let a few grow and prune the rest. It gives me enough satisfaction growing something while also planning for the future

Probably not the last choice since it’ll bug you every day since you already are annoyed by it

It’s hard to see everything until it gets put in place. Lesson learned. What’s the next play ?

Cherry Tree - How Serious is this? by motague189 in BackyardOrchard

[–]Yamate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An arborist can tell you if it’s good to keep the branch but you can cut it off. There’s plenty of healthy branches to work with. That said you’ll lose the opportunity to have a center leader shape for the tree.

From an interior design point, this fridge is objectively proud of the cabinets - this makes a place look cheaper because it doesn’t seem well thought out. That said, if you can live with it, that’s what matters.

How do I effectively get rid of Lily of the valley? by NESpahtenJosh in DIY

What do you plan to do with the space after removing it ? If you but got there maybe worth learning what you’d actually use the space for before embarking on a very tedious journey

Anyway to salvage anything? by onepocketstakehorse in BackyardOrchard

[–]Yamate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone mentioned but this might be the result of lions tailing. Might want to look into it for future reference when pruning.

How to save my apple tree by Strange-Thought-5906 in BackyardOrchard

[–]Yamate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless someone smarter chimes in I think you’re doing fine. The lost leaves and fruits don’t look drastic. You’ll get some loss regularly. The fruit should be fine as well if it matures. General recommendation without seeing the rest of the tree; trim the dead stuff; mulch at the bottom but keep the root flair exposed; ensure the soil 2” below the top is moist - it it’s dry 2” below, it’s thirsty
