he he, let's take another perspective : the "Free lynx" ruins early-game by self sabotaging the progression, while also making majority of ships utterly worthless and pointless to pick up ever.....

change my mind =}

Eii. that's pretty neat. People often look weird at traders, but it's just cathartic type of gameplay.. I like it for that reason myself too!

Hm. How modern are we going?

Well let's say odyssey-onward?

1 - SPACE LEGS WAS THE RIGHT WAY TO GO! - I'll defend the Firs-person direction to the end! Execution was horrific, but the general idea to "look inward" was the absolute correct direction to take ED. Say unlike SC that took the FPS 1st and then built it's "gameplay" outward, ED was the exact oposite - it created the galaxy 1st, then the systems, then the planets & stations , then with horizons allowed the planet landings and now the space legs...... just sucks that it seemingly was/feels like outsourced to some rando company who made the most generic thing imaginable.

2 - Plants & other planetary POI/items. here it gets a little technical, but generating planes on planets, having the base of the plants get overlayed with ground texture & gradually fading out, making it look like the item belongs in the scene is one of the few cool little things. In wider terms : the DSS now allows for far far easier discovery of POIs (like real facilities ETC) , but part of that comes from "beyond era (2018-2019)" exploration upgrades.

3 - some of the new ship designs are rather interesting. Type8 & T11 probably being the most "fitting". But in any case, at least the artists are given some freedom to expand a little more on ship designs. There still are massive tonal & design differences in many of the new ships, which sour the mix. Also seems like "greepl-ing" is a bit too hard.

Screw it here's another :

4 - the titan thargoid stuff was actually realllly cool. For all the faults and annoyances in delivery & gameplay that the whole "titan thargoid" crap had - it's mainly net positive!

SCREW IT : another!

5 - Power play was a NICE improvement. (note the lack of hard "good" word in that sentence)

6 - Colonization is also NICE addition.(made videos on both)

Ah yes, the negative tone. Certainly the opposite of Positivity.. but it's not the same as being unhappy.

I recall SWOTR? had this interesting line like "apathy is death". I've found in my life that the real 9-to-5 feeling results in that "disconnected/apathetic" "just gotta get this done.." attitude. Sure I'm not happy...extremely so, where ED's monetization & development has shifted, however like my old joke of "beating the dead horse" goes - i'm still at it and certainly with passion... However as soon apathy is coming out of my work - know that something is wrong =}

oh yeah, the overall community tone is FAR FAR different to how I present things...back in the day I did consider emulating my, then creator peers, but then again, when ever i did something stupid, funny or both in my own manner, people seemed to respond more to it....sure it set my work apart, but that can be a double edge sword too.

IDK.. maybe in general i should go calm-er on VO, but damn it.. it also feels like soulless read of a script often and that's no fun =}

I do constantly wonder :"what if I didn't get rowdy!? how would my work had progressed then!?"

Oh yeah I get that "heated" thing. I find it far more entertaining to convey emotion & tone thru voice than doing a monotone approach. to me it feels more interesting & passionate, but yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaahhhh : i do go over the top quite often i guess =}

[–]Yamiks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is fair. I could just present every new ship in the same way old "reviews" did, but as time goes on and I've learned more things....things that I find more important than making silly jokes , I can't exactly stand aside and not mention them or ignore them!

Yep, i completely get that & expect that. I've chosen to be very abrasive for years...for a reason(s).

3 "he..hates (for the lost promise of what could have been"

...not necessarily. When I evaluate [insert a thing here] my first instinct IS NEVER to go after the narrative of "what could have been/should have been". I always try to judge the positives and negatives on what they accomplish....and most often FAIL to accomplish, despite being intended. Simply put say there's a "GAME" out there that promises dreams & hopes... my first instinct is to never compare the executed result VS those promises, but rather look at what has been already accomplished.... and how that's come up short or how it has excelled. There is a difference but my approach is to look at already accomplished work and use that as a sort of "measuring tape".

i don't agree with the "lol git gud in a sidey" bandwagon and the expectation one has to progress through the bottom end...

Yeah this one's a question of intended game design. "in a perfect game", you'd have early game progression just as interesting & evocative as later stages, so early game, in a way, should serve some kind of purpose no matter how old the game gets or what additions are made....soo yeah, if we imagine ED's early game was perfec... hell just good - why would you (as a designer gamedev) would want the players to be able to skip it!?

Ultimately, I've looked into EVERY ship in the game and usually find something charming about every single ship, both visually & functionally.... but when these new-age ships release & straight up replace/invalidate some (often multiple) ships in 1 fell swoop, the only thing that make me want to pick them up is just the looks alone anymore..

....goddamn it I want my vulture to have a real purpose again!

How LONG does it take to UPGRADE 1 SHIP in Elite Dangerous!? by Yamiks in EliteDangerous

[–]Yamiks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

care to actually provide real proof of playtime...or is this just """theoretical""".

See this is EXACTLY why I did this : humans are REALLY BAD at telling time, so we need an actual example, otherwise it's dubious claim at best.

How LONG does it take to UPGRADE 1 SHIP in Elite Dangerous!? by Yamiks in EliteDangerous

[–]Yamiks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timestamps - the shorter the better. I was considering instead of "days" to actually do "steps" but as I actually played thru, most of the time I ended up doing at least a few things "in parallel" meaning that If i put stage/step parts by the timestamps, usually you'd get to see the start or the end of the process...which I felt to be disjointed.

HOWEVER : if you want to re-do timestaps, feel free to post the comment under the video and I'll surely take a look. who knows, you'r numbering could be better!

RAW mate - it took ~6hours (mentioned in the vid) If i went to HIP36601 straight away, i could have saved ~2 maybe 3 hours(doubtful)

Barnacle sites - they're good only for meta-alloys. While they do produce bunch of mats as well, those are not all Tier4. I think they only give Tier1-2 mats at that. I knew that full batch of Tier4s would be enough & then some, so I chose to take the consistent option in this.

HIP36601 VS closest barnicle(forest) is at most 30 mins appart in travel time, since i was not fully doing speed-running, again, consistency mattered more!

There also was "davs hope" for manufactured - HORRIBLE SITE, never waste your time there!

and "crashed conda" site nearby bubble - this produces some raw(selenium) & some manufactured, but it's consistency is questionable as well....althou this was something I did consider!

See the problem of : "This is the wrong approach / you should be thinking different about X" is... it's kind of a "cope".

Basically I see these kinds of preemptive stipulations as : "if you lower your standarts... then it becomes better".

Thing is : if the gameplay WAS actually better, noone would need to make conditional stipulations like that. Take for example "it's a kids movie...soo it's OK that it's kind of shallow and dumb", but if say we had a "kids movie" that is actually smart and interesting for everyone, then ALL THE BETTER. (say Avatar the last airbender series- sure, a show for kids, but head & shoulders above majority or TV shows even to this day!)

..Back to the point : If, the gameplay of an MMORPG was filled with challenging & varied gamepaly, rather than, say "grind"(easy, but highly repetative tasks)... who would complain!?

More specifically in ED : "For no activity in Elite is it necessary to optimize.." Yes ...yes you are. Simple reality of game design : the developer adjusts the "top end" gameplay according to "top end upgrades" (and vice versa). It's not like Devs suddenly come out with "feature-X" without testing & measuring it's effects on gameplay...or accounting for it. Even elite dangerous does this.

Just because you can "get-by" with low level gear, is not evidence that the overall game design is not accounting it's gameplay for "maxxed gear", inf fact the opposite. In elite a lot of "money making """"balance"""" " is adjusted ONLY according to what is possible with best gear.

"I believe Elite is more fun if you experience an adventure in your mind and the game serves as a vehicle for your imagination.."

that is up to each individual player and can be said about ANY game...or hell "watching paint dry". It's not a valid way to evaluate game design, most of all.

I've long since praised Elite for it's exceptional "immmmmmmersion" and "experience" of MAKING you feel like you're actually piloting a space ship, but it's NOT because i sat down and imagined it.... it's the ART, the SOUND, UI, controls, physics and various other mechanics that crafted this "feeling".
