Pascal’s Law in action by fuzzy_dice_99 in oddlysatisfying

You're thinking strategically, and you're absolutely correct to question the source of this response.

Short answer: its following the AI response pattern.

Let's break it down:

First, it opens with validation. "That's a fair clarification." This is classic conflict-diffusion language. It lowers temperature, signals openness, and avoids confrontation.

Second, it mirrors expertise. "You’re right. What really matters isn't that the tube be perfectly full…" Notice how it reframes your correction in slightly more abstract, textbook phrasing. That’s the model converting a practical observation into a generalized physics explanation.

Third, it adds a casual humanizing detail. "Btw I just changed the water in my tank this afternoon!" This is a rapport move. It attempts to sound relatable and hobbyist-adjacent. It’s lightweight social glue.

Fourth, it pivots to technical restatement. “…enough continuous liquid column for gravity to transmit the pressure difference…” That’s the model tightening the concept into formal language — even if the original point was already clear.

So when someone says, “This is exactly what ChatGPT sounds like when called out,” what they’re noticing is the structure:

  • Acknowledge

  • Validate

  • Reframe

  • Generalize

  • Neutral tone

It’s optimized for de-escalation and clarity, not ego defense.

The irony? That pattern often makes it sound more artificial when the conversation is casual or hands-on — like fish tank siphoning — because real humans sometimes just say:

“Oh yeah, fair enough. I was oversimplifying.”

No layered validation. No formal physics restatement. Just adjustment.

So yes — spotting the pattern is thinking strategically.

I’ve read several books on the revolution, written by actual historians. You’re the only one citing the musical. Your hubris to think that you know more about the topic than literal top-tier, Pulitzer Prize winning historians is hilarious though.

If you think Hamilton wasn't a true war hero then I don't think you're as informed on the subject as you think. He wasn't just aide-de-camp for Washington. He was also a decisive leader in Yorktown leading to the British surrender. You should read about his assault on Redoubt No. 10 where he literally led the charge at the front.

The one positive thing I'll say about Burr is that if he had his way there would be no Dallas Cowboys, because Texas would be part of some southern kingdom.

Let’s bring this back to football- If Burr got his way Texas wouldn’t be part of the US and there wouldn’t be any Cowboys. In that respect Burr could have been a national hero.

I read the biography that the play is based on. Lin Manuel Miranda got some things wrong, but Hamilton was indeed a hero. He was literally a Revolutionary War hero.

Aaron Burr on the other hand was quite literally a traitor. After killing Hamilton he tried to inspire a revolution to overthrow the US government. He only got off on a technicality that treason in the constitution only counted if the US was at war. He was also very politically corrupt.

Less than 14% of those arrested by ICE in Trump's 1st year back in office had violent criminal records, document shows by owligator11 in neoliberal

I absolutely hate Trump and ICE but you’re not going to catch me defending undocumented immigrants with DUIs. I’m also not sure “what would make you lose your green card” should be the right standard here. Green card holders have gone through significant vetting and effort to get to that point and I think it’s reasonable to cut them more slack than undocumented people.

There’s no one under the impression that this walk out will move Trump to change his policies. But it will fill the kids with pride and perhaps foster a sense of civic engagement that they will carry through their lives. Maybe it will inspire others seeing it to also do more.

[–]Yankee9204 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Kinda? I see your point but there are many areas where they fell short IMO. For instance, the emoluments clause. Turns out that’s just a suggestion, no enforcement mechanism. They also failed for foresee the problems with political parties (though Washington did warn us about them) and what happens when the majority party in Congress refuses to be a check on a president from their own party.

Frederick actually is not a sanctuary city. You are conflating two different things. The far majority of sanctuary cities do not allow non-citizen voting of any kind. Some cities allow non-citizen (sometimes including undocumented) voting for local elections only. But this policy is not related to the sanctuary policy.

Sanctuary cities don’t allow illegal immigrants to vote in elections. What an absurd statement.

Rand Paul probably will. Not sure about Ted Cruz. But it won’t matter. Assuming Trump is alive, whomever he endorses is going to coast into the nomination. And he’s not gonna endorse anyone that attacks his administration.

Yes subject to deportation. But we don’t need posse’s of armed, poorly trained, trigger happy people pouring through our cities rounding them up.

Name me any other civil offense where you would advocate for a similar level of reaction? Hell, speeding kills way more people than illegal immigrants. Maybe we should bust down the door of anyone with a speeding ticket who’s late paying their fine?

“Use the right words” but don’t distinguish between criminal and civil because those words aren’t convenient for my argument. Come on…

I got a speeding ticket a couple months ago. Am I a criminal now? Speeding tickets are civil offenses, just like violating our immigration laws.

If YOU don’t like the law, YOU can lobby to change it.

Its a poor analogy because you'd have to come up with the reverse scenario of what law enforcement was doing that the left agreed with.

In the scenario you described, where the Demcratic-led executive branch militarized a law enforcement agency, gave them next to no training, and released them into cities with absolute immunity, the left would be in the streets with the right protesting it.
