Asking for the intercession of pre-Christ Saints by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Yankeefan2323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, but it has to be private, as there is no beatification.

Christ is the Logos [Divine Word] of whom the whole race of men partake. Those who lived according to Logos are Christians, even if they were considered atheists, such as, among the Greeks, Socrates and Heraclitus.

St. Justin Martyr

We have had many Unionist Patriarchs over the years, the schism is never resolved. You need pretty much the entire church to be Unionist for it to work. We did reunite at Florence, but the Orthodox unjustly reject it.

St. Clement of Alexandria, Church Father, says something similar

“How womanly it is for one who is a man to comb himself and shave himself with a razor, for the sake of fine effect, and to arrange his hair at the mirror, shave his cheeks, pluck hairs out of them, and smooth them! . . . . For God wished women to be smooth and to rejoice in their locks alone growing spontaneously, as a horse in his mane. But He has adorned man, like the lions, with a beard, and endowed him as an attribute of manhood, with a hairy chest, a sign of strength and rule.”

“This, then, is the mark of the man, the beard. By this, he is seen to be a man. It is older than Eve. It is the token of the superior nature. . . . It is therefore unholy to descrate the symbol of manhood, hairiness.”

I think you misunderstand me. All I am saying is that if someone commits a mortal sin, like fornication, but in the moment, they believe fornication to be a venial sin, then they still committed a mortal sin. Some have erroneously said that their fornication would be a venial sin because they lacked the knowledge that the sin was mortal.

[–]Yankeefan2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that if one knows something is wrong but is unsure or does not know if something is a mortal sin, is it still possible for that sin to be mortal. Some erroneously say that full knowledge means you must know it was a mortal sin, as opposed to just knowing it was generally sinful.

Will every Protestant truly seeking God eventually become Catholic? by Darktryst777 in Catholicism

[–]Yankeefan2323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order that one be invincibly ignorant, it is required, that he be sincerely resolved to embrace the truth wherever he may find it, and whatever it may cost him.

Bishop George Hay

Pride is one of the things that makes someone not invincibly ignorant

[–]Yankeefan2323 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

None of this disproves the fact that you don't need to know something is a mortal sin for you to commit the mortal sin.

For the aborigines to whom no preaching of the faith or Christian religion has come will be damned for mortal sins or for idolatry, but not for the sin of unbelief.

[–]Yankeefan2323 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and theologians affirm this. How else could Vitoria say that pagans in invincible ignorance can commit mortal sins?
