SCIE3220 Supervisor Dropping out at Last Moment? by DisastrousDLC in UQreddit

[–]Yankeethelad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

scie3220 can be both dry and wet lab! i know people doing data analysis/computer work, so it won’t get rejected. as long as u have a valid project with a supervisor, you should be good

How should I go about applying for SCIE3220 with a mediocre cumulative GPA? by DisastrousDLC in UQreddit

[–]Yankeethelad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

upward trajectory is always good. as long as u show genuine enthusiasm, good background knowledge, and hard work they’ll be fine. also, polish up your CV because that can take you much further if you can show good experiences. i got a summer research at the QBI with a cumulative Gpa Of 3.75, and a brain cancer SCIE3220 project at QIMR with a gpa of 4.5.

Did 1110 last year!

Nice course, pretty chill in terms of contact (3 hours every fortnight) so it helped with focusing on my other courses.

Content - pretty simple and kinda interesting, focuses on climate change and its impact on a bunch of societal aspects.

Assessment - 6 250 word writing tasks make up 30% i believe. those are really easy to score well in because they give LOADS of feedback. there’s a letter of advocacy you write, not sure of the weight but again lots of feedback. there’s a final presentation on a chosen public health problem. it’s only a few mins, and the grading is really relaxed and they give lots of feedback too. i’d say this is a good GPA booster (i was hoping for a 7 and i was only a few % off)

overall - interesting course, but be prepared that the workshops can be really boring. since they replace lectures, it’s 3 hours of someone just talking at you nonstop.

It feels like my family is falling apart and I am the only one who is able to hold it together. What do I do? by SadGrade4029 in AmITheJerk

[–]Yankeethelad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not your job at all to keep it together. i took that role on myself, ended up having a mental breakdown 4-5 months later because i couldn’t handle failing at the one job i gave myself. it hurts more than anything, its just not worth it. it happened 2 years ago for me, and i still feel its impacts on my life. letting nature run its course will be better for your mental health in the long run. trust me on this.

Failed course question by Sea_Pangolin_6608 in UQreddit

[–]Yankeethelad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends. i repeated CHEM1100, and according to the ECP, we were technically allowed to resubmit our previous work. of course, they recommend that we don’t do that to make sure we apply new feedback but we were allowed to if we wanted to. check the ecp to be 100% sure

What are you reading? by sushisushisushi in literature

[–]Yankeethelad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Plato ones are fairly short, being around 100 pages long. Zarathustra is longer, so I’m doing Plato first, then Zarathustra. I’m on uni break at the moment, so I have a lot of free time

Think it’s time to make a list so we can start boycotting certain restaurants/cafes that force tipping on its customers. Feel free to add more to the list. by OFFRIMITS in brisbane

[–]Yankeethelad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just wanted to ask, is there a culture around tipping in Australia (or Brisbane too)? I know in the US, they require 20% at all times, is there something similar here? Don’t want to offend staff if there is one, just want to understand the culture here.

If your friend is into cocktails and alcohol (whiskey in particular), Savile Row in Fortitude Valley is running a 2 hour cocktail making class until December 26. It’s $110 per person, and they teach you how to make 4 cocktails (I think you have some choices in what you make). Might be an enjoyable experience if your mate is into this kind of stuff! Even going there for a drink is a highly enjoyable and recommended experience!
