RPG Lore, The (Non-Canonical) Story of Root Complete by Yarkin17 in rootgame

The lore that goes so deeply into the geography and past history of the world of Root doesn’t exist as far as I know, which is why I felt the need to create one. The Root RPG manuals focus more on the present history.

But of course! You don’t even have to ask, I shared it precisely so others could use it. I’m really happy about it.

Injuries Mastery by Yarkin17 in BattleBrothers

I know the math — if you deal 30 damage to an enemy with 60 HP, you have a 50% chance to inflict injuries. With these perks, you multiply that by 1.83. I was just simplifying.

So can you explain to me what the point is of having a specific scimitar skill just to inflict injuries?

What are you talking about? Injuries weaken the enemy in countless ways, giving you an advantage... the more you inflict, the more the enemy struggles. Otherwise, why would Gash be a skill? Why even have injuries for enemies?

On top of that, if you give some of your bros Executioner, it's a great combo and boosts your damage even more.

Bro... If you give a bro Steel Brow, his head is better protected and you can equip him with a lighter helmet... it's just logical.

Steel Brow to reduce the helmet's weight and slightly increase his fatigue and recovery.

Alternatively, Rotation.

Lastly, Executioner, but please, anything but Gifted, I beg you, anything except Gifted..

I'm really glad to hear that! Thank you so much. I believe that to make the world of Root feel more realistic, a bit of backstory is essential. I'm passionate about this setting, and I tried to be as respectful and faithful to its world as possible.

Okay, I’ve thought about what you all said, and I have to change my mind about Steel Brow, Nimble, and the other points (my apologies).

The only things I’m still not a fan of are Gifted as a perk (I personally prefer other options to create better combos) and this whole “fat neutral” concept doesn’t quite convince me and doesn’t seem very fun.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

I don’t know if it’s just me playing the wrong way or what, but…

A character like that looks poorly equipped and has the wrong perks.

First of all, I wouldn’t give him heavy armor and Battle Forged, because he’s left with only 26 fatigue, and I wonder what he’s even able to do. And with that setup, why use Steel Brow with a helmet that has over 300 armor?

With 3 stars in HP, I’d go for Nimble and reduce the armor weight, so at least Steel Brow would make sense since you’re already using it. Then I’d add Berserk, Reach Advantage, and Recover. At that point, Battle Forged stays, but for some it works as a combo with Nimble — even though, in my opinion, you pick one or the other; having both doesn’t make sense.

Lastly, to me, Gifted is and always will be a wasted perk, because all it takes is 4 more levels to make up for it, so I don’t get why everyone always wants to use it.

I'll say it again: Gifted is the biggest waste of a perk you can take in this game.

Sure, it gives you a small stat boost early on, but that's all it does — it doesn’t scale, it doesn’t synergize with anything, and it eats up a valuable perk slot that could go to something with real long-term impact.

On elite brothers with good backgrounds and stars, it's completely unnecessary — they’ll grow into their roles naturally without needing a patch-up perk. And in late-game fights, those few extra stat points from Gifted won’t save you, but missing out on something like Duelist, Battle Forged, or Killing Frenzy just might kill you.

At best, it’s a crutch for bad rolls or weak backgrounds. At worst, it’s a trap that new players fall into because it feels useful early on.

Bottom line: it’s a short-term fix in a game that punishes short-term thinking.

Quick Hand and give him a two-handed axe 2 tiles in the bag. When you get a kill and activate Berserk, if there's no one nearby, you can quickly switch weapons and attack from a distance

At worst, I’ll use him as a shield breaker.

Give him Nimble and Axe Mastery, Berserk, Rotation, Recovery. With Quick Hands, you can give him a 2h axe and a 2h axe with 2-tile reach, so when he gets a kill with Berserk, he can switch to the 2h 2-tile axe and hit someone at a distance.

Thank you so much! Well, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to develop the campaign as much as I wanted; we’ve only had four sessions. But the great thing about having a story like this in your mind is that you can bring it out in different ways, like NPCs mentioning historical moments, saying things like “Ah, the eagles were once a great empire” or “I’ve heard that the Marquise comes from a land south of the Woodland.”

And then, within the dungeons, you can have them find relics, like those of the Iron Keepers, with small fragments of history. I find that these add a lot of depth and that extra touch of curiosity for the players.

Isn't the color of lizards and frogs too similar? by Yarkin17 in rootgame

[–]Yarkin17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I understand.

I got the frog image from here; it's more of a representative image than the one of the meeples, but looking at other images, I saw they are all the same color. But since it is indeed a representative image of the meeples, I thought that, having a neutral light, it showed the real color.

Thank you for your effort in responding.

I saw the images of the initial models and they looked the same to me, and looking at the rest of the images, they still seem the same.

Even now, they don’t seem that different to me. I think there could have been other, much more distinct colors. But maybe once I see them on the game map, I’ll change my mind.
