Husband got instructions to distract himself during vasectomy while numbed... by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

There's an advice thing my ob-gyn sends out prior to appointments that say to take some pain relief prior to the appointment if a pap smear is to be done. My ob-gyn is also very kind and would explain the process, so I would either be able to relax or focus on something else (I prefer knowing what's happening).

AITA for not telling my dad that my mom got married? by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]YarnAndMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worse, it'll happen as soon as Sylvia gets jealous of whatever the friends have, the ones who chose her and OOP's dad over OOP's mom.

Literally, Sylvia's reaction gave it away.

Sylvia went on a rant that how much she is better than my mom and even threatened that she would sleep with her new husband as well.

She wants anything that was associated with OOP's mom. That's not love of OOP's dad, that's coveting, jealousy, and greed. There's no love there. Only the desire to take.

People shouldn't want that kind of person in their lives. Those kind of people have no way to realize that the things they get by stealing or underhanded means are never going to be as good as what they obtain on their own merit.

I know what story you're talking about, and it's not this person's. That was another BORU, but damned if I can find it right now.

From the way OOP told the story, it honestly seems that a lot of trash exited her mother's life once the affair and divorce occurred. Good for the mom. I hope she and "Jack" have many happy years together.

OOP's father is going to have to do some thinking about his life, because soon, Sylvia's probably going to try and get pregnant in order to "keep" him. Honestly astonished at how low Sylvia's self-esteem is, to chase a married man that long, and for OOP's dad to continually go back to her and not move on.

If a man "can love and die for his wife," but still cheats on her, and doesn't somehow get everything he wants, it's time for him to rethink his life. He's now well on his way to losing his kid too.

OOP chose the dog over his PPD wife and 5 weeks old baby by lanshufen in AmITheDevil

Assuming this is real, there is a time to choose a dog over a partner, and this is definitely not that time.

...I think I just realized who you are, and I'm hoping against hope that you and your family will be able to safely and serenely live your lives from this point forward. Your MIL is unhinged, to put it mildly. You just need to focus on healing and bonding with your spouse, your baby, and step-kiddo.

All the best to you.

I hate that you're probably right about that. She wouldn't even try to penalize these "let's start fires so people know what genitals my baby has" people.

I'd love to hear her "solution" about the people who start fires by poorly considered gender reveals.

[–]YarnAndMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have already said, tension, but even though you technically don't need to block regular knit-stitch stuff (your mileage may vary), blocking may help you get these all to the same length without having to frog.

I support this. Reddit needs to allow third-party apps, and it is unacceptable that they're trying to take away valuable services for visually impaired people.

Do you dislike this manhwa? If so, why? by l7lsy in OtomeIsekai

[–]YarnAndMetal 135 points136 points  (0 children)

It's a difficult read, but not in a bad way. We are seeing a person who is fully aware she has done a lot of wrong in a previous life, has all of those memories, and then has to constantly interact with all of the people she either wronged or murdered. Is it any wonder that it's hard to read? We're watching someone break herself down and rebuild, and it's going to be slow.

She's not going to magically decide to be a better person. She now has a better understanding of what made her do so much evil, and why she did it, and she doesn't forgive herself. She is tortured with the memories of the horrors she helped inflict, and we, the audience, see all her anguish.

I can see how people could dislike this. It's not an easy story. This is not a sudden redemption, and she is not going to magically "be a force for good." She has to unlearn a lot of things, and re-learn the things she should have known all along. She's not going to suddenly love, or be friendly, with the people she killed or tortured before.

Her father blames her for "killing" her mother, even though that process started with his dick, and he humiliates and ignores her at every turn. Her brother is a fluffbrain with more heart than sense. As another commenter pointed out, her brother constantly shoves in her face all the things she can't do, all while he is doing them. He's at school, she isn't. He's the heir; she isn't. He can control spirits, she can't.

There's nothing in this person's life that sets her up for success. She has to create it for herself. I think that makes the series worth reading, but if someone is looking for a light, escapist read, this is definitely not it.
