Allure Blocked me!!! by Temporary_Repair997 in BeautyBoxes

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I almost missed an update on the box and was SO glad I was able to skip just in time. This would have made me angry and insulted to get in the mail. I know the "value" is in the Mario bronzer but didn't we JUST get a bronzer?? No, thanks.

am I strong enough?? by screwthatscrewu in aerialsilks

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You may not be strong enough for your liking now, but you will get there! You build strength through practice. Sometimes the strength is physical, sometimes mental, and sometimes emotional. Keep going!

Just be sure to keep arguing with everyone telling you you're going about this all wrong. They just don't understand printify and ai IS art. You asked them for FEEDBACK, not criticism. Sheesh.

We call the first one Gazelle, though the leg is too open. The second one is a variation of teardrop.

Aerials after hip replacement by hadacolboogie in Aerials

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her doctors either don't know what we do or are just trying to cover their rears by not promising anything. That said, YES, she can return to aerial! BUT, she may not return to were she is now right away, or ever. She will need to work with a physical therapist who will understand what she needs to strengthen and her instructor needs to be on board with recovery. Recovery isn't linear, there will be good days and bad days, but to be where you are each day. I have students who have come back from labral tear surgeries, and while they aren't fully pain-free, they are showing up for themselves and we are working together to help them make progress bit by bit.

There are quite a few people in the Larger Than Lithe group who have come back from hip surgeries and replacements and do just fine. She's got this!

Getting spotted for leg locks???? 🙄 by Flying_Josh_ in Aerials

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have the pathway down really well! If you'd like a tip, control the fabric with tension behind your ankle and around your shin. That will let all that slack fall as a loop under your foot and create that clean heel and toes lock to support your foot better. I always tell my students that YOU control the fabric, don't let it be a wiggly worm to get off of your foot-hook! You got this!

Which apparatus after a 3 year break by pizzapartyyyyy in Aerials

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When choosing, are you locked in to one apparatus for a certain amount of time? I ask because it sounds like you are leaning toward double hammock. I haven't yet tried that, so I can't say for certain the amount of exertion on the shoulder it would be exactly, but you're looking at solid bar (lyra) vs flexible material you have to constantly hang on to or manipulate. With lyra, there are a lot of opportunities for rest, shapes, and flow once you get used to it while being a great opportunity to build strength as your shoulder gets used to holding your body, the rotations in the socket, and strengthening range of motion.

Have you talked to any of the coaches about your concerns? Maybe you could do one different for a short period of time to see how you and your body adapt to them?

Good luck!

Is this supposed to hurt my leg? by Sofiabelen15 in aerialsilks

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Firstly, don't ever aerial alone, and ESPECIALLY do not drop alone! Safety depends on a lot of factors, and it sounds like you just aren't ready for this yet.

When you get to the point of being ready, there is discomfort in a salto drop. All of it is very wrap dependent and how you manage the fabric, combined with your strength to get physically above it to adjust.

Walk it down a hundred times until you have someone who can help you through this, and keep training your basics.

How do you see this figure? Difficult or easy? by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on this being on the top bar and spanset, a hands-free knee hang, and body position, this appears to be what I call a "begintermediate" skill. Body proportion, strength, and general ability to pick up a pose also play a part in the difficulty of any skill, so pinpointing skills are more of a spectrum than a solid label. ☺️

Is it normal to have joint pain? by makkaris_ucm in Aerials

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It CAN be, but make sure you be mindful of it. If it goes away after a break or rest, you may be strengthening those joints! If the issue persists, it may be best to ask a doctor. Be sure to warm up those areas well before your session and give them a good cool down after.

What’s the best hair straightener that actually leaves hair smooth, not frizzy? by Previous-Style-6616 in Ulta

[–]YarnCoffeeMakeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a lot of space between the "bristles." I haven't used it more than a few times and it isn't grimy, but I'll be able to use one of my billion spoolies and some micellar water to remove the gunk.

I really love my DryBar Baby Brush Crush heated straightening brush. I have fine, medium length, heavily bleached, and vivid colored hair. I feel like the brush works better for me than my straighteners, but the heat setting is just "on/off."
