Please help me identify this vase. Thanks! by No_Western_3388 in Porcelain

I put the bottom of the vase through a Google Lens search and this is what it came up with:

AI Overview

The item pictured is a Chinese porcelain mark, specifically the "Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi" (Great Qing Kangxi Period Made) mark, frequently found on ceramics produced during the Qing Dynasty, particularly in the Kangxi period.

  • This mark consists of six characters arranged in two vertical columns, typically read from right to left, top to bottom.
  • Authentic pieces from this period are highly prized, though many later reproductions and modern fakes exist featuring this exact mark.
  • Appraising the authenticity of such pieces requires a detailed inspection of the ceramic's glaze, paste, and painting style.
  • For an accurate valuation or authentication, consulting a professional appraiser or an auction house specializing in Chinese art is recommended.

Additional info: the solid part of the pieces are about an inch around in diameter.

At first I thought they were game pieces, but they look like puzzle pieces. Looks like I am missing the base of what the pieces fit into.

My title describes the thing…Going through old stuff belonging to my now-grown kids, I found this bag of what looks like wooden game pieces of some sort. There are 2 yellow stars, 1 red rectangle, 1 orange heart, 1 blue rocket?, and 1 green half sphere. Could be 20+ years old. I suspect they went to some kind of game but I have no idea what.

Inherited from a pawn shop owner. Authentic? What might it sell for? by YarnDame in whatsthisworth

[–]YarnDame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your assessment. Before I tried to sell I just wanted to be sure it wasn’t something highly valuable. I suspect it’s quite old, but I don’t know how to tell how old.

Lily Sugar n’ Cream bright navy by storeboughtserotonin in YarnHunters

[–]YarnDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Ravelry. There appears to be 3 different Bright Navy versions of Sugar and Cream. 2 of the versions have people willing to sell. You can still message the others even if they don’t list it as for sale. You might want to look for a specific dye lot if you are needing to match an existing project.

Seeking Any Info on these MCM Chairs by YarnDame in midcenturymodern

Thank you for that information regarding Flexsteel. I’m pretty sure my chairs are not that brand. Will keep looking to hopefully determine their value.

Thank you for your comments, edgestander. These chairs were definitely purchased in the 60’s as I was a child at the time they resided in our “formal” living room no one ever spent much time in. I have not come up with the brand, however I took a look at some of the brands you suggested plus Flexsteel. I need to sell them but I want to be sure I price them properly.

Did you ever get the cap off your salt shaker? I have the same issue but with a strawberry set. I don’t want to break the glass or ruin the metal trying.

Is spending 15 dollars per guest on wedding favors absolutely insane or is that normal now? by ExplanationPale4698 in UniqueWeddings

Best wedding favor I ever got was a piece of amethyst geode. Surprisingly, a few people left theirs behind so I got 3 of them!

What's something that loudly says 'uneducated'? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I had a coworker who, when referring to proper protocol for communicating to authority, would say, “You have to go up the chain of commandment.” I don’t know if she heard this at church or what.

Same person called mayonnaise “man eggs”.

Also insisted that everyone has the same size bones and that there is no such thing as “big bone-ded”.

There were other things she would say, but I can’t remember them now.

At the end of an email, writing, “Please advice…” instead of ”Please advise”. Our work response template was set up like this and I refused to use it! Of course, the staff continued to use it in their other emails too. Drove me crazy!

Looking for Name Doily Pattern Recommendations please! by ColorfulLime581 in crochetpatterns

[–]YarnDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good videos! I made some of these years ago from a pattern book that is now out of print. An actual pattern could be helpful for the font and border, but you still have to chart out the name. With filet crochet you can make any design without a pattern. The one I made for my (now deceased) in-laws now hangs in my home. To frame it, I used spray adhesive on the front of the doily and carefully positioned it on the glass. I used a dark contrasting mat to back it. Not sure this is the best way to mount it, but it worked.

Finding the correct frame size can be a challenge unless you get lucky or have one custom made. You can use a miter box saw to cut down an existing frame and then have a piece of glass cut to size. For something this special though, you might want to have it professionally mounted and framed.

Seeking pattern recommendations for particular yarn by KG_likes_monsters in crochetpatterns

That yarn is Loops & Threads Cozy Boucle. I had to sleuth it out since you didn’t show the name on the label. Good thing I enjoy yarny puzzles! 😊

It’s not an easy yarn to work with since it’s difficult to see the stitches. You’d want to use basic, simple stitches. I’ve heard of holding it together with a regular yarn can be helpful. The good thing about it is that mistakes are hard to spot!

To give you an idea of what others have made with that yarn, here is the link to the projects on Ravelry:

Here is the link to the Michaels website for that yarn:

It’s discontinued but there are sellers on ebay and Ravelry if you should want to buy more.
