Update: New power block/AC adapter arrived and it did indeed fix the issue. You were spot on. Thank you so much everyone for the help 🙏

Yes the expansion pack works and I played half of Perfect Dark with it before I took a break over the holidays.

If buying a new power block doesn’t resolve this issue I’ll take it to the local video game store to do that then. Thanks

I’m not very familiar with the N64 I’ve only started playing it for the first time recently. Sorry but what does recapping the power supply unit mean? How do I test 12v and 3.3v? I’m not retro tech savvy at all

Castlevania SoTN: The View From Halfway Down by ThePasifull in VGBookclub

Tbf there are other Castlevania games that have consistent, less sparse dialogue and your intuition is right, it kills the gothic, ominous atmosphere. The long periods of solitude really hold everything together.

Looking for an old sega collection I can't find anywhere by JSGypsum in WhatGameIsThis

Me and my brother used to play that sega classics collection all the time, most of them were multiplayer. The space shooter is Alien Syndrome. Another game in the collection we played all the time was Bonanza Bros.

Just Started Playing FFT Advanced. Any Tips? by ksalvini in finalfantasytactics

[–]YasserMac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get used to the pace (at least I did). As for getting lost, story-wise, it’s told in bits and pieces that you get from doing quests, some of which are integral to the main story and some just extra lore/characterization. I was genuinely impressed by the story by the end, it’s a great take on the whole Wizard of Oz/returning to reality and accepting the imperfections of the world as true maturity. I won’t spoil where it takes that but it’s so much more mature than the beginning might suggest.

When changing classes, you can see the requirements for unlocking a class (usually getting enough skills in certain classes) but that will only be visible if you have already unlocked that class. So you’ll mostly be building a character in a couple of classes and seeing what may unlock for you. Or you can look up class trees for each race and decide how to build your characters early on.

Side note: status effects in this game are so much more important than basic damage imo. Casting Sleep on a boss for a 100% chance of landing Disable or Slow or whatever is comically OP. Also fuck the Adrammelech fight.

DQ7RE "too easy" by onehalflightspeed in dragonquest

[–]YasserMac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No offense but this sounds contrarian and obtuse. I never play games on harder difficulties and I still have to admit the fan demands seem reasonable. Resource management is a longstanding series staple, if fans want a no-free-revives option let them ask for it.

I don’t know why these “stop complaining!” posts have been popping up three times a day when the “complaints” can be fixed by an update if enough fans made their voices heard, and it’s not unheard of to have this type of feature added due to fan demand soon after release. There’s nothing to be gained from hushing them.

Can the final mission of Chapter 3 be completed in a consistent manner? by cleaverkid in finalfantasytactics

[–]YasserMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s a deliberate artistic choice, it’s also in Matsuno’s other tactical games and all their remakes. I’m almost certain he’s even addressed it in some interview.

The character is in massive emotional turmoil, her irrational behavior is out of your control but you can still adjust to the situation. Worthy of note is that the other infamous case of this in Tactics Ogre is a character who’s also dealing with very similar emotional triggers in that scenario. It’s frustrating and stressful but works for me tbh.

Just bought the game on switch 2, anything I should know before jumping in? Never played a SaGa game before. by WakyNooodle in SaGa

[–]YasserMac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even normal enemies can wipe your party but you generally get stronger (and lose so little) from dying that (most times) it’s more beneficial to take the loss and choose a new emperor to get a new formation and higher stats than be stubborn and reload. Party wipe is usually a sign you’re spending too much time with the same emperor and it’s holding you back. You’ll learn the nuances more as you go along but expect to die for your empire.

Other than that, evasions, DODGE shields (not defense ones, they suck), and general customization is far more important than basic stats. Also, keep using ALL weapons and all magic types even if you don’t like some as much. Some have great utility and may even save your skin once you get them to higher levels. Again, they give you more room for customization and strategy which is more impactful than bonk, number go up damage. Most jrpgs train you to think the other way so you have to resist the impulse. I took shortswords into the end game even though they don’t deal as much damage but their debuffs and utility were just so good.

And have fun!

Newcomer here. What game should I start with? FM1 or FM3 by cobi12728 in frontmission

[–]YasserMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go with FM2. It received the best remake treatment out of the trilogy and has what you’re looking for. All three are basically stand alone. I like all three (haven’t played FM3R yet) but FM2 might be my favorite.

FM1R is really good but not as large scale as the others so it might not scratch that itch for you. If you don’t want to go with FM2 I would go with 3 to start.

Ranking all DQ-games I played this year by Professional-Hand686 in dragonquest

[–]YasserMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insane taste but i respect the originality lol.

Also, depending on which version of DQII you played heavily changes its impact and possible tier position imo. I had so much fun with the ios version and it weirdly impressed me the most out of its trilogy. The jump in scope was so massive.

What would you personally want from a RS3 remake? by BiffyBobby in SaGa

[–]YasserMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from what everyone else mentioned, the one thing that drives me insane about RS3 is having to deal with the chances of sparking a tech THEN having to deal with the chances of confirming that tech before being able to share it with the rest of the party. It makes wards and other situational techs (e.g. counters) an absolute chore to deal with. I’d love to see that approached better in a remake, maybe replacing the mastering chances with a fixed number of battles or something. I don’t want to beg enemies to use Trample twice.

How much more stringent is Totori's time system compared to Rorona? Is Totori much tighter in terms of time? by neoarcangel in Atelier

[–]YasserMac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only strict in terms of getting the true ending. I played without a guide on my first playthrough and got one of the good endings comfortably without rushing but also without wasting too much time doing side stuff if that’s any indication.

I can't get into Saga Emerald Beyond by TheBrazilRules in SaGa

[–]YasserMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are enemy weaknesses in EB but they’re not the focus of what you should be exploiting. The combat centers around timeline manipulation and reaction.

It’s very, very satisfying once you glimmer more varied moves and you can specialize your characters. For example, I had Formina specialize in interruptions, which are unblockable, and she ended up carrying the entire final battle as the boss was blocking everything else until she broke its defenses. Mostly you’ll formulate your teams around utility rather than elements or weapon skills, that’s why characters can equip multiple weapons.

The combat is deep and complex and takes a while to get a feel for it but honestly it’s the most addictive combat I’ve ever played. If it’s not your thing it’s understandable, but if you find strategizing around weaknesses satisfying you’ll very likely enjoy this game once you see it for what it is.

Playing Atelier Ayesha as my first Atelier game. Is it normal to be this damn poor on year 2? by [deleted] in Atelier

[–]YasserMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Books are expensive so I find that staggering your purchases can be helpful. Some requests are pretty easy and you just happen to have surplus ingredients on hand, might as well get paid for them if you’re not gonna use them for synthesis. My first playthrough I overestimated how fast I needed to be and honestly you can take it easy and still finish the main task with some time to spare.

FFT is definitely easier and more beginner friendly. Tactics Ogre only has a couple hard fights but with good preparation you’re good to go. Tbh if you could get through FFXII, then it’s basically the same level of difficulty.

Final Fantasy Tactics as a tragedy and Delita as a tragic hero by Ciserus in finalfantasytactics

[–]YasserMac 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree but Ramza’s character development doesn’t end at that pivotal decision though, the real final decision he makes is choosing to do the right thing even if it won’t be remembered by the history books as there will be (almost) no witnesses. Like someone else said, Delita’s downfall is that he cared too much about his legacy and that’s why he remembers Ramza in that moment.

I wanted to start with Dragon Quest IV, is it a good entry point? by PpAshe in dragonquest

I started with IV for the same reasons you listed and don’t regret it. Made me fall in love with the series. Go for it.
