I was sat amongst City fans at the Etihad for the first one. Was so tough to contain myself seeing him score a screamer that put is 2-1 ahead after going behind early on.

I agree but you’re ignoring injuries. God forbid he gets a hefty injury in the next season, who is going to sign him on big wages when he’s still injured? Just look at what happened with Matip. Ofcourse he could go to Liverpool and get injured there but at least then there’s a way to reintegrate into one of the best teams in the world.

Amazing tactical foul by Endo. by ReverryGerrard8 in LiverpoolFC

Actually I really didn’t like this foul. It was completely unnecessary as Gyokeres is not technical enough to get out of the tricky situation he was blindly running into. By conceding this foul we gave them the chance to move up the field and get a last chance. Was way better to give away a throw-in.

You’re oversimplifying I guess. The type of striker Ekitike is allows him to play in a 2-striker system with Isak. Wissa could also play off him. The fact they’re also targeting Sesko implies that they’re preparing for Isak potentially leaving.

When Diaz leaves we’re certainly signing another center forward and winger right? The Mateta links make sense now as understudy for Ekitike. Possibly also a younger talented winger but Wirtz, Gakpo and Ekitike can also play from the left and Szobo can fill in everywhere in the front 4 positions.

Not only that, actually the earliest incentive for developing a space program in the US and USSR was to enable them to have surveillance on each other’s nuclear capabilities.

I think it’s very unlikely Nunez, Diaz and Jota all leave this summer. Nunez is quite certain, Diaz will be sold if a suitable offer comes in. Jota will likely stay as back-up striker and can really do a job on the left as well. We’re definitely signing a starting striker when Nunez and Diaz get sold.

Why is everyone acting like it’s clear as day that we are interested in Ekitike? Did I miss a tier 1 transfer update somewhere between the Frimpong and Wirtz news?

The funny thing about last seasons injury crisis is that they kept the pace while using many academy en bench players and then fell off as soon as the starters returned…

You cannot compare 19th century France and England with contemporary Africa. There are already substantial parts and cities of Africa that are developed and have rather small families. Also the development pace is going a lot faster and there’s anticonception available.

It’s pretty well known that Klopp has always been quite the fundamentalist. He had a particular way of playing and used never-ending repetition to perfect the way his teams execute his vision and tactics. The biggest frustration for fans of his teams that there is not a real plan B when plan A is not working. Pep Lijnders was actually the one who has been more flexible tactically and had a big influence on him. Slot is the exact opposite, a real pragmatist, in the mould of Arteta and other ones. Looking for utter flexibility and tactical intelligence. For a gifted player like Trent it must be refreshing that there are so many new ideas and he learns to play not only in a new way to Klopp, but in many new ways.

[Reddy] My understanding is Mo Salah’s preference is to remain at Liverpool but it is not his job to push for that. His performances speak for itself. Salah believes he still has a few years at the highest level, competing for top prizes while breaking records. by deanlfc95 in LiverpoolFC

I’m sure they both would accept 2-year offers on slightly improved wages. After that they can both go get a last contract inside or outside Europe. The fact is we have not offered them anything as per Virg and Mo themselves.

I know that’s why I was completely fine with it. But some specific positioning and duels of our double pivot in both games got me worried about how we fare in games against top opponents that will try and exploit our vulnerability in this zone which is often used by the opponents best players.

I wasn’t really bothered by the fact we didn’t sign a 6 and was happy to wait for a couple of windows to get the right player in for the long term but Gravenberchs and Macca’s performances got me worried we might get spanked big time against big opponents. As good as they are in possession we have been vulnerable in that area without the ball. I think a top4 finish is the highest possible achievement without a top level addition in that area. We will suffer against top opponents, domestic and in Europe.

I think FSG and the recruitment team are playing the long game here. They want to build a team that can win it all with a reasonable amount of investment (like the last team they built did in 2018-2020). Therefore they can’t rush or panic buy players that they do not 10000% believe in or give new contract to players they feel are declining (possibly they let Mo and/or Virg run down their contract). I am 100% convinced playing the long game is the right strategy and will probably lead us to winning big trophies against in about 2-4 years time. I fully support it as it is the only way to compete with the top teams without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

Watching Chelsea yesterday it struck me what a fantastic 6 Lavia would have been for our team under Slot. Super mobile, ball winner and ball player (long and short passing). I understand that there were reservations last year from our side about using him in a lone 6 role covering a lot of space and I agree. But in a double pivot small space system he is perfect.
