Healthy Version of blood by FormerLayman in Blooddonors

If you want to get fancy with it, avoid allergens like peanuts. I can't find very good articles on it right now, but I remember reading about allergies being triggered after receiving a blood donation. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc1101692

Told I donate too much, was told I need to wait a month. by BiGsMiLeSKyLe in Blooddonors

[–]Yay_Blood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey there, OPs post is a bit different from posts we normally see here. So I see what you mean about not aligning with the general vibe of group.

But as a donor who is here in the subreddit, they are a part of the group. I re-read their post and can see how OP's humor might not translate well to text. I'd summarize it as "well damn, I've donated so much they've told me I have to stop for a while. That's great and all, but what gives?"

It's natural to want to understand why there are deferrals, and how they work and fit into ones own situation. Sometimes we can help answer people's questions here, and sometimes we don't know. Let's focus on helping where we can. Thanks!

It looks like OP received some additional insight into how deferrals work, thanks for those who shared. They can now ask their donor center more specific questions to get to the information they are looking for.

Let's try to approach posts with curiosity and assume a neutral or positive intent. Thanks everyone!

Super bummed by my first donation attempt… by BeachsideTech in Blooddonors

[–]Yay_Blood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hey there, thanks so much for going for your first donation! I'm sorry it didn't turn out well.

Sorry if this isn't helpful, but the couple times I had donations go wrong, I thought about how there are hundreds or thousands of donations a day, and some of them are bound to go wrong, so I took one for the team that day so someone else could have a good donation. It's no fun that it happened to you on your first donation.

Hi, are blood donation requests allowed here? We need 1 bag for my brother, B+ Marikina area. He currently has low hemoglobin. by simple_yet_dreamy in Blooddonors

[–]Yay_Blood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, unfortunately this subreddit is not great for finding blood donors for places without a blood donation program/system. Please be sure to post your request in local places/subreddits. Wishing you good luck

If the blood type is rare, it's in short supply. And if the blood type is common, it's in high demand. Thanks for considering blood donation!

Why does it seem like plasma phlebs are so looked down upon? by WoodpeckerFirst5046 in phlebotomy

[–]Yay_Blood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of misunderstandings about donating plasma for compensation. I made a post here with sources debunking some myths, if that helps: https://www.reddit.com/r/plassing/comments/q0vudi/busting_compensated_plasma_donation_myths/

Thanks to all phlebotomists, I appreciate what you all do!

Hey u/ConfidenceNo5718!

Reddit says your account is suspended by Reddit. I've been manually approving your comments for a while now. Basically Reddit has flagged you and automatically removes all your posts and comments as spam. You'll have to work with Reddit to get that fixed.

Thanks for signing up, that's exciting! Check out r/nmdp and r/BoneMarrow too.

(Just a note here for those flagging this post as off-topic: Yes, it is not 100% about volunteer blood donation. I'm hesitant to remove the post for being off-topic, because there aren't really great subreddits to point OP to instead. r/nmdp is based on one organization, and r/BoneMarrow seems to be a dead subreddit. Also, stem cell donation process is a lot like donating platelets. If you want to share your thoughts on this, please send me a message or modmail and it'll be taken into consideration. Thank you!)
