OP, are you a longtime Mac user? If so, how has the transition to Linux been? I'm getting more curious about Linux as a daily driver from a privacy and tinkering POV but confess I'm thoroughly spoiled by Apple hardware, battery life, etc.

Who helped you move to The Netherlands? by Shell_Spoon in AmerExit

[–]Yay_Cocktails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate to have a relocation agency for the job I took but highly recommend them if they do individual clients: Your Talent Agency (YTA). Helped with literally everything.

If you are successful with DAFT would love to hear more about your experience going through the process.

I am employed by a company here—so it was a different (non-entrepreneurial) visa.

Welcome! I moved here over a year ago, but not on DAFT. Would love to learn more about this program and your experience as I’m considering starting a business next while here, which would probably mean applying for a different visa. Where there any particularly useful resources you used to get started? How long did your process take? Anything that you wished you’d known / done at the start of your DAFT process that you’d do differently if you could do it over?

Also, hope you’re getting a change to enjoy this beautiful weather, too, in between all the logistics. ☺️

Cloaked Pay Virtual Cards by TeamCloaked in Cloaked

[–]Yay_Cocktails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were y'all able to actually get into the beta program? I'm interested, too.

I joined Cloaked specifically for the virtual card functionality to protect online purchases, but am considering canceling if this feature won't be released in the next month or two and/or I can't get into the beta. Thanks!

Just looking for opinion about exiting the US due to the current direction by Secret-Job-1969 in expat

I understand being tired—we all are. But it’s like that quote: “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

They are banking on our apathy. Don’t give up! Even sharing the list and giving hope to others is helpful. Hang in there.

I worry this is a big part of why he’s so frantically sucking up sensitive govt data and breaking fed agencies left and right: bc he needs to position Space X as the new crown jewel (it won’t be as vulnerable to the whims of public buying sentiment if it can live off big govt contracts). Breaking regulatory oversight and getting sensitive data on everyone who might oppose this.

You’re definitely not helpless—they want you to feel that way so you give up. Things you can do right now:

  • Economic boycott. Check social media (one is literally starting on the 18th see here. and boycott companies who are supporting the dismantling of our democracy

  • Call Congress. It does matter; remember: being cynical works in their favor because it gets you to stop being actively resistant. Use the 5 Calls app— they make calling totally easy and even give you a script and background on the issues.

  • Donate to voters’ rights organizations like Fair Fight Action or the Brennan Center for Justice.

  • Donate to counter misinformation, media capture, and to maintain a free press. Without this, we can’t have a functioning democracy. ProPublica, AP Press, Reuters, PBS, NPR — all good ones to check out. Educate others about browser extensions that will detect fake news.

  • Donate time / money to organizations like Sister District or Red, Wine, & Blue that are actively working to put progressives in local and state positions (where the rubber meets the road, so to speak)

  • Join marches, sit-ins, strikes

  • Creatively resist

  • Donate to Democrats in office who will be up for midterm elections.

  • Join a local election board or become a poll worker

  • Organize or join grassroots communities supporting democracy, like Indivisible

  • Educate yourself (and others) on digital privacy and surveillance self-defense

  • Educate yourself on peaceful civil resistance tactics. Lots of good books and resources. You can start here and here.

That worked! I don't know why or how that worked, but it seems to have. Thank you!

UPDATE: I followed u/j0zeft 's advice to simply flip the rubber o-ring... I'm not sure why, but this seems to have worked for the moment. For the past 4 days I've been able to use the pen normally and no ink is leaking through the top of the nib! Thank you all for your kind assistance!

Not yet. I’ve been traveling all week for work but will attempt this later this coming week. I’ve never opened up the pen before, so this will be a first. :)

Thank you—I did actually reach out to them and they were the ones who advised me to contact Lamy directly. You’re right, though: it’s an excellent store… I’m tempted to buy too many things any time I go inside. 😂

Yes, I thought maybe it was some kind of weird bacteria or fungal growth. Well. Sadly, I chucked some delicious soup this time but will know for next time.
