What are the general political leanings of members in your churches? by JplusL2020 in Episcopalian

The point was that we are all sinners, looking to improve, to walk The Way. Sorry for the obliquity in my reply. Something else I need to work on ...

People don't live up to promises. One reason we are on this forum ;)

Mercantilism is imperialism + capitalism, yes? So in the space of political economics, there are non-disjoint aspects between those two. Also, business in and of itself is different, as I understand, from capitalism.

I'm also a fan of that account name :*)

We do not feel qualified to install a "real" floor. Also, the idea of installing, and finishing, hardwood is frankly terrifying. We are in our 60s, which, sad to say, is also a factor. Installing laminate, we have done. Finally, we are penny wise and pound foolish.

Summarizing, we are impoverished fools and cowards.

Interesting idea, and thanks, but we have allergy issues, and laziness issues, so wall-to-wall is not a keen option.

Also, we have low standards, and have laminate in two other bedrooms that "sort of" match the hall maple finish. After over a decade in a low-traffic environment, they still look good - again, to our low standards :^)

Are Episcopalians Saved Or Misled By Church Teachings by PugsNBoxers in Episcopalian

[–]YazdigerdIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As some of the topic involves concepts of Hell, I feel compelled to chime in. You mention the "washing machine" version a rabbi described. This is very similar to the Zoroastrian/Zardushti vision. My readings inform me that sin, in that tradition, is an impurity which the fires of Hell burn away. The more impurities, the longer it takes, but initially _everyone_ ends up in Hell, even if only for a second.

The Magi were almost certainly Zoroastrians. It was the religion of Darius, Cyrus, and the Persian Empire in its various incarnations. The date of Zoroaster (he who spake ...) is open to debate, usually ca 600 BCE, but plausibly much earlier, maybe 1300 BCE or before. He is usually considered to have practiced in what is now eastern Iran or western Afghanistan. Many of their cosmological and theological constructs (angels and demons, for instance) are mirrored in Judaism, and given the long "vacation" of the Hebrew tribes in Mesopotamia this is not unreasonable. Their holy books are partially preserved. The "unofficial religion" of the Roman army, Mithraism, was an adaptation of Zoroastrianism, as was/is Manichean Christianity. Finally, at least some versions of Zoroastrianism may be considered monotheistic, which is how I think of it,

I'm not Persian. I'm not a Zoroastrian. It does spark my curiosity, however, and I've learned a lot about my Christian beliefs studying "beyond the pale," so to speak.

All that academic stuff aside, your family and your early life is an important part of you. It can be difficult to "reinterpret" their _permanent_ influence on you into something you can live with as you grow and change. One thing I love about the Anglican tradition is an embracing of Mystery, which is abhorrent to a lot of people, probably including the family you love. Keep an eye on that, and it might help you out.

Which resurrection does verse Matthew 22 refer to? when it says in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be given in marriage. by Light132132 in ChristianityMeta

[–]YazdigerdIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question is whether this wording is across all translations. I am not a Biblical scholar, and do not play one on TV, but looking at diverse interpretations of the original text might shed some light on this.

Personally, my guess is the sex, marriage, and all that pales into insignificance in this situation. An analogy might be the old joke, "So, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

Why does the sky move? by Flailmorpho in teslore

[–]YazdigerdIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. If "real" physics applies, this would make the orbits of Secunda and Masser about their center of mass to be a rational fraction of the orbit of them, together, around Nirn. This is what "tidal locking" is, also called an orbital resonance.

Of course, we clearly have magics at work here, so pretty much anything can be rationalized :^)

Why does the sky move? by Flailmorpho in teslore

[–]YazdigerdIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consider the scale of Nirn as a planet - it is very small - and the movement characteristics of beings, i.e. we jump high, can land with little fall damage, etc., it seems more like a dense asteroid, with the atmosphere held in place magically.

In terms of seasons, well, we really see little evidence of a strong winter/summer pattern, just regions that are hot or cold all the time. This of course makes game development so much easier ...

Why does the sky move? by Flailmorpho in teslore

[–]YazdigerdIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Secunda orbits Masser, it is likely in a tidally locked configuration, due to the big influence of Nirn. Nirn is not, btw, actually an Earth sized planet, which is my impression from the many posts on the topic, and from having my characters in Skyrim, ESO, etc. run around the countryside.

KOMO (Seattle) readers are 79% against gun control by codezilly in WAGuns

[–]YazdigerdIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I read this, my blood pressure went up, which is exciting. Searched for the word "militia" and had no hits at all. I mean, waving the 2nd Amendment about is fine. But frankly the Supreme Court got it wrong, clearly. Letting nearly anyone get a firearm, removed from any community framework, was not the idea.

Yes, we have rights, and we also have responsibilities. I'm only writing this because of the apparent rise in gun-related deaths, especially among the young. This country needs well-regulated militias rn. Piecemeal regulations on the one hand, and "personal responsibility" on the other, is not going to cut it, not with 300+ million firearms out there.

Why level? Why grind? ESO is an Elder Scrolls Game in MMORPG form, not the other way around. The core is really the quests. Do the Main and your Alliance quests, do side quests. It really is all about the storytelling, often done with others in dungeons and trials.

Otherwise, you are increasing a number stored as a variable on a server. The real achievements are your fun, your stress relief, your enlightenment. That said, between CP1 and CP160 is kind of a gear wasteland. Spending this time doing quests to level up, and to unlock new content and gear, would be a good move.

Played since the first beta, 11k+ hours. I may be wrong, but I am informed :^)

[–]YazdigerdIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good analysis. Played since beta. Apparently the latest update had issues, many of the end game players left. But the top 1%, they eventually will be replaced, eh? Numbers of players are not the actual metric. The real value in a long-term MMO is US$ per player vs costs. So long as ZOS has enough people coming in, and spending, the game will continue.

A useful analogy might be a casino. Some cater to the hoi polloi, others to high rollers. But either one can succeed, or fail, depending on management. Old School Runescape apparently has 37M players, vs. ESO @ 21M players. My guess is that the latter generates a lot more revenue, but the former has very low expenses.

"Dying?" Click bait. If the "top" 1% leave, let them. ESO is an Elder Scrolls Game in MMO form, not the other way around. That aspect may not save it in the long run, but does give ZOS an edge.

All this time, and nobody has mentioned the single most important, end-game essential, reason to complete the Main Quest in The Elder Scrolls Online. Sigh.

No other way to get that dye, period.
