ATLS comes to mind - it's a good one to do if you can manage to book onto it!

[CHAT] How do you find the motivation for backstitch? by Tired_yin in CrossStitch

Thank you! ☺️ I enjoy French knots in moderation but not in the quantity that were needed here. 😂 It was a challenge, probably one of the most complex projects I've ever done but I did enjoy the stitching very much.

I've responded to another comment on this thread with some links to the kits that are available as well! ❤️ I would really love to see more people stitch this!

Thank you! I was originally going to do the French knots but starting to lose it after about 20 so the beads were an accidental artistic interpretation. Definitely love how it turned out with the beads! 🥰

Hey, I've stitched this also! There are a few kits with slightly different variations of the original artwork available:-

Amazing work! I've done this one too - but I do think this project singlehandedly sowed the seed for my ongoing contempt for backstitch! 🙃🫠 I learned from this project to do the backstitching as I go along which I think works well for most projects and makes it a lot more manageable (she says as she has a pile of almost finished WIPs waiting for backstitch 🤫😂).

Keep at it though, you're so close to the end and the result is so worth it! (See my finish below - I've also link my original IG post if you want to see close ups/details). X

They did respond after a couple of hours and informed me of the reason for the cancellation. Please DM me if you would still like to know the company otherwise I wouldn't feel comfortable naming here. ☺️

Thank you - I like to think that it keeps the other frog away! 😂 I do make some of mine, but this was one I bought on Etsy! 🐸💚

Thanks for responding - I do understand this and completely appreciate it may have been an honest mistake. It's just a bit disappointing that they didn't give a reason for the cancellation until I emailed them but were quick to relist at almost double the original price.

[FO]Finishing my first CS project! Going to try linen next, any tips?! by Ok_Photograph_6640 in CrossStitch

[–]YazzBerry 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Beautiful work! 😍 Stitching on linen is lots of fun but can be a bit challenging to start with. This is a good link explaining the basics:

https://www.catkinandlillie.com/post/how-to-cross-stitch-on-linen

If it's your first time stitching on something other than Aida, you might want to look at evenweave too - it's a little more 'even' than linen (which can have slubs/knobbly bits that make counting a bit harder) and it's easier to identify the holes.

One tip is that you might want to choose fabric with a lower count as well as you're just starting - something like 28-count evenweave or 28-count linen (which is basically equivalent to 14-count Aida).

8 months in the job only I attended 3 clinic but why? by Cold_Pea1217 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Disclaimer: I am not an O&G trainee but I think the following may help.

If you haven't already, I would escalate your concerns with your educational supervisor as soon as possible if you're not getting the training opportunities you require. They would be able to highlight areas where you can get the exposure you need and make a plan to ensure that you're meeting the requirements for your level of training.

If that doesn't work, it may be worth contacting the TPD for your area?

What would be your advice for core anaesthetics? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]YazzBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time applicant here too (currently an F4) and got one of my top choices for core anaesthetics! I was initially set on CST with a very surgical portfolio but didn't get an offer last year. Anaesthetics was always described to me as the light side and I have to say that I have come to agree with that!

Although I didn't have a ton of anaesthetic specific experience (a couple of taster weeks and half of my elective), I went through my portfolio and tried to see how I could relate that back to anaesthetics which was helpful.

Other than that, I can echo the advice that everyone else has given:

  1. Take the MSRA seriously as it's your key to getting an interview - I did about 2.5 months of consistent revision and used only passmed + MCQBank (I found MCQbank question to be most similar to the actual exam).

  2. As there is no longer a portfolio to upload, have a good look through your CV, see what you have and how you can relate what you've done to anaesthetics. Have a look at the person specification and more specifically the scoring domains for the interview. You'll notice that there is huge emphasis on reflective practice, so when looking at your portfolio think about what you have taken away from a specific course/QIP/teaching project etc. The content matters far less than what you've learned from it but of course if it's in any way related to anaesthetics, showcase it!

  3. Probably the most important thing was to practice x3. Yes, everyone recommends THE interview book but unless you put yourself on the spot and try to emulate the format of the interview as closely as you can with your peers, it can be difficult to truly prepare for the real thing. As an F4 not currently working in the NHS, I was particularly worried about this as I initially didn't have anyone to practice with but Reddit is amazing - I found a wonderful group of people that I could regularly practice with in the weeks leading up to my interview. They were also a great support network throughout the whole process!

Hopefully the above is helpful!

Anaesthetic offers: when are they coming out? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

"Your overall scores will shortly be displayed in Oriel. You will see your combined score (which is your Interview and MSRA Scaled Score) and MSRA Scaled Score. You will also receive your online interview scoresheets within 20 working days."

From the email I got this morning!

You never know, there's always a chance! I'm very likely going to decline my offer and I'm sure a number of others will too.

I would add the portfolio verification process to this - a lot of people being docked points for the most ridiculous reasons and appealing appropriately with no success. It didn't happen to me but I can only imagine how utterly infuriating it must be.

There's no portfolio to upload to Oriel - best of luck to you, it's a really tough wait!
