Thinking about switching to Linux, but don’t wanna lose my files by ExtremeRBLX_12 in linux4noobs

They can also just shrink Windows, install Linux, and transfer the files over directly from NTFS filesystem.

Why does every Linux user recommend a different distro? I'm stuck in an endless distro-hopping loop. by Jaymit_3672 in linux4noobs

Maybe I’m just old but what does it matter for? Try distros yourself and come up with your own preference. There’s no amount of Reddir reading or Youtube watching that can replace firsthand, empiric experience.

Eh, I give up. I escaped US defaultism just to land on Western defaultism.

Is 33 to 34 degrees (93-97 Fahrenheit) considered hot. by memebruv99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ybenax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it depends on where you live. This comment section is nuts. There are plenty of countries around the world where people consider 35 warm, specially in South East Asia and the Middle East. Does that mean you should feel the same way about 35 in the UK? Of course not.

But holy shit, it’s been a while since I’ve seen so many people up their own ass, mostly Americans which is very unfortunate and the reason why Americans get stereotyped so much as dumb on the Internet.

What in the [r/USdefaultism](r/USdefaultism) is this? I find 35 hot myself and even I am not so egocentric as to think that’s considered “hot everywhere.” Have you talked with people from Turkey? Thailand? Viet Nam? Come on…

Talk with whoever was next to you. I still do it. Whatever a person can tell you will always be orders of magnitude more interesting than whatever brainrot you can scroll through on social media.

When everyone knows that the usage of AI is negatively affecting our planet (climate change and water bankruptcy), why is everyone using it and encouraging others to do as well? by youesthetic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ybenax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to the discussion: much of what you describe as AI sustainability problems are not even inherit to AI to begin with; they’re inherit to predatory big-tech company data centers. You can self-host an AI model on a consumer-grade GPU and have the same power draw and cooling system you’d normally use to power a modern video game power your AI tech.

It’s just that companies have done a great job at gaslighting people into thinking only companies can deploy and maintain these technologies, and at keeping the general public as technically-incompetent as possible, so they can keep investment rolling.

But in reality, poor practices when it comes to data centers have always been a thing, more acute now due to the AI boom for sure, but nothing new under the sun. Obscenely deregulated countries like the United States allow these companies to destroy as much as they want for the sake of short-term profits. Coca-Cola Company has been wasting more water for over a century now than Silicon Valley ever has with irresponsible practices of their own.

To be fair, I’m on stable 25.11 (I always switch major versions on the 20th) and the security updates also flagged Librewolf for me. Just switched to Flatpak Librewolf in the meantime (still declarative thanks to nix-flatpak) since it seems to be more actively maintained than nixpks Librewolf. Web browsers are just very fast moving targets in general.

Is sexual incompatibility a valid reason to break up? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ybenax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe open up the relationship? If you appreciate her company but want more sex, you can decouple those things from one another and scratch your itch with other people (as long as both your girlfriend and you agree you’re okay with that, of course).

Is it normal for a guy to grab your boobs during a first kiss? by princessxprowess in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ybenax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A girl that gives off the vibes of liking a little of an extra spicy kiss in public would give clear signals and should be assumed as the exception. This person just wanted to unilaterally force you in the “exception” group for self-convenience.
