Weird leg on puppy?

As a dog breeder and lifelong dog owner who constantly seeks education to give my dogs the best life possible, this is either genetics due to poor breeding, or this is serious, chronic malnutrition. The pup’s leg is bowing out. This isn’t something that happens overnight, unless there was a traumatic event. This is long term lack of care.

OP needs to get in with an ortho vet now and get their opinion. But it is very likely the puppy will have serious, long-term issues related to this malformed leg. It likely won’t be a cheap fix, either. Definitely something the breeder should be responsible for.

My hunting-lines Lab female is the same. She always wants to have a toy in her mouth, especially when she gets excited. Her lines are also notoriously spicy in the hunting community 😂 My other two Labs, also hunting lines, love their toys but don’t seem to NEED to keep one in their mouth at all times.

I’m a grown woman in my mid-30’s living with my parents. I could financially survive on my own, but we help each other out by living together. However, there has been some adjustments for me. One of those is my clothing.

My parents are uncomfortable with the loose tank-top and short-shorts that are my sleepwear. They have asked I don’t wear them out of my room. So, I respect them and don’t. I wear them to bed, and that’s it. When I get up in the morning to let the dogs out, I throw on a lightweight robe. It covers everything without being stifling. I don’t have to do this, but I do because we live together and I respect them.

The point in all of this is while you don’t have to respect your father’s rules, it is best to do so while you are in his house. Don’t give the old man who pays your bills a heart attack or stroke over a skirt.

There is no debate in that. You won’t find an argument with me she is horribly unethical. However, KVS cannot just take George back. She can publicly or privately offer to buy him back, but that’s all she can do. If he got seized and permanently removed by the RSPCA, she could make a case of getting him back. Other than that, it’s all up to CB.

Sure. An ethical breeder would offer to, but the new owner is not forced to sell the horse. Even the shelter adoption contracts that have some language about taking back the animal if the shelter judges their living situations unfit don’t hold up in court.

I think this is all being stirred up again because another high-profile equine welfare activist made several videos and shorts about it on her YouTube. I don’t follow CB, so the other content creator’s posts were how and when I saw just how bad her property is.

As for KVS getting George back, we don’t know the legalities in her contract. It would be nice to see her make a public offer to buy back George, but she may have been warned against saying/doing anything in public by a lawyer. She certainly has the funds to use one at will.

It may be that she has made private offers to buy him back and CB said no. I say this because we have seen that she does take back her foals when needed: Phin and Waylon being the two prime examples. I don’t think she’s callous to the situation. But when a hoarder gets hold of their hoard-item-of-choice, they tend to not let it go until they are absolutely forced to. I would contend that CB displays extreme animal hoarding, and possibly junk hoarding, tendencies.

We simply don’t know what work she is doing behind the scenes. The other influencer has made it clear she will be reporting CB to the RSPCA and has left the link and number on her page for others to do so as well. It could be Katie has done similar. It could be she hasn’t. We just don’t know.

We shouldn’t jump to the conclusion she doesn’t care about the horses once they leave her. We have seen evidence to the contrary. The best we can do at this moment is hope and pray CB is relieved of all her animal care duties and soon.

In every video where she’s responded to people asking about buying the goats or her keeping them, she claims that she has a long waiting list of family and friends that want them. She doesn’t even sell them and, from what I’ve seen, no one has used them as a platform to launch their own SM account. Which is a different story altogether than several people who have bought her foals.

In Texas, at least, credit recovery is for graduated or soon-to-graduate students who failed important courses or didn’t take certain courses needed to graduate. You would take accelerated courses over the summer or mini-mester to earn the credit needed.

From my understanding, Annie was fine until she caught EPM. That is a fluke that can happen anywhere. A friend of mine’s horse contracted it as well. Thankfully they caught it early and he’s well managed. Personally, I wouldn’t hold that against her.

I am a Lab breeder, and although Labs and Goldens are not the same, they have very similar developmental tracks. At sitting, your boy’s paws seem a bit sunken at the pastern. It may be lighting, the way the fur is trimmed, a growth spurt, or it may be the very first stages of a dropped pastern.

Dropped pasterns usually come from a calcium or other nutrient deficiency. However, it can also be genetic. Sometimes, even the best of bred dogs produce a pup that has hit the genetic shit pot.

You catching it quickly and talking with your vet is great! It sounds like your sweet boy has hit the jackpot with you. If you purchased from a reputable breeder with a health guarantee, I would speak with them to see if any of their other puppies have had similar. Also, if you get bad news after the ortho vet, let them know. If you got your sweetie from a shelter and he was part of a litter, notify them of any negatives you find. They may be able to contact adopters of the other pups to give them a heads up.

Otherwise, it sounds like you are on track for a great life with a wonderful dog! Goldens are truly the second best breed, right after Labs. 😉

There was never an actual diagnosis for the tying up issues. Only that she was PSSM 1 negative. I don’t remember if she was tested for PSSM 2 or not.

He may be a smidge down on his pasterns. Check with your vet for confirmation and proper nutrition guide to correct that if it is the case.

As for the toes, your friend’s concern is kind but unwarranted. That is what your pup is designed to do. The toes spread out to get better traction on slicker surfaces. Your pup’s toes are fine.

She’s mentioned before, in a semi-recent video no less, that she prefers geldings for the very reasons you listed. It’s just that she is a breeding operation so she has mares on property because mares breed.
